Framework for multi-level application traffic identification 用于多级应用程序流量识别的框架

With the acceleration of the Internet speed and the vigorous emergence of new applications, the amount of Internet traffic has increased. In order to provide stable Internet service, efficient network management based on accurate traffic identification is critical. Although various methods for traffic identification have been proposed, not a single method identifies all types of Internet traffic. In this paper, we propose a framework for multi-level application traffic identification by combining several single methods.

A media distribution tree construction method using a maximum spanning tree for mobile smart devices 一种基于最大生成树的移动智能设备媒体分布树构建方法

In this paper, we propose a Media Distribution Tree (MDT) construction method to provide efficient multimedia streaming service between mobile smart devices in mobile ad hoc networks. An MDT for efficient media streaming is constructed based on a maximum spanning tree, which considers device hardware performance, energy and wireless network state to determine media stream relay nodes. The MDT represents the media streaming paths among mobile smart devices and connects a group owner device and group member devices. Finally, we measure network bandwidth and round-trip time on the media streaming network, which follows the constructed MDT using the proposed method, and analyze the experiment results.

Delay insertion based P2PTV traffic localization considering available bandwidth of logical link 考虑逻辑链路可用带宽的时延插入P2PTV流量定位

Recently, the live video streaming application using P2P multicasting called P2PTV attracts attentions as a means to deliver live streaming video to a large number of users since the server load becomes low compared with a unicast-based delivery. Since many current P2PTV services choose a relay peer for a newly joining peer without considering the network distance between peers, the end-to-end router hop length of a path from the server to the peer tends to be much longer compared with a unicast-based streaming, and this increases the network traffic. For this problem, delay-insertion-based traffic localization scheme was proposed. However, this scheme sometimes leads the new peer to connect with a neighbor peer to which the path has small available bandwidth, and the video quality seriously degrades. The paper proposes a novel scheme of delay-insertion-based traffic localization in which the router estimates a bandwidth to each of relay peer candidates and leads the newly joining peer to connect with a neighbor peer to which the path has sufficient available bandwidth.

Web server performance enhancement by suppressing network traffic for high performance client 通过抑制网络流量来增强Web服务器性能,实现高性能客户机

In a high performance computer network system especially that has high-speed networks, an imbalance problem occurs in terms of that network performance is significantly higher than computer capacity. The problem deteriorates performance of the entire system by ineffectively overloading application servers by few high performance clients. In this paper, we present performance analysis and validation of a web server and confirm the possibility of transparent performance enhancement for a high performance computer network system by only changing the configuration of network facilities such as switches and routers. We constructed a local experimental web system and reproduced several cases in which the problem occurred and confirmed that it is possible to solve the problem by only suppressing network traffic on the communication lines for high performance clients. By practically using the network traffic control method it is expectable to provide best performance of application systems in a high-speed network environment in the future.

Mobile application access design for user-defined network infrastructure 用户自定义网络基础设施的移动应用访问设计

Advance in Software Defined Network is enabling more possibilities of network infrastructure utilization. For example, underutilized network resource in the production network can be shared to provide research and development network that does not mix with the production one. In our previous work, we already provide users a way to manage their defined network infrastructure through a web interface. In this paper, we presented our mobile application access design for users as a new way for them to manage their defined network infrastructure via their smartphone or tablet. We also update our previous work to reflect this change by modularizing the system and adding a REST API access module to our Virtual Network Management System.

Research on automatic header-signature naming system for Internet service identification 面向互联网服务标识的自动标头签名命名系统研究

With the rapid growth of the Internet speed and emergence of new applications, the amount of Internet traffic is continuously increasing. In order to provide stable Internet service, efficient network management based on accurate traffic identification is gaining much importance than ever. Header signature-based identification method for network management can be identified the network traffic quickly more than other methods. In this paper, we propose an automatic header-signature naming system and identification system using the named header-signature. The proposed system provides efficient management of header-signature of each service as well. To prove the feasibility of the proposed systems, we applied the system to the campus network environment. In experimental result, we could find the URI information of actual content providers, which cannot find through IP search such as “whois” or command such as “nslookup”. In addition, we can get the characteristics of a network in a short period of time by applying the proposed system.

A robust group synchronization approach to network congestion based on control events for media streaming 一种基于流媒体控制事件的鲁棒网络拥塞组同步方法

We developed a robust approach that can be synchronized with accuracy to a media streaming group in a network congestion situation. This approach consists of a server-side and client-side algorithm. The server-side algorithm is used to transmit the playback information using a synchronization control packet to clients. The synchronization control packet is transmitted in an event-driven manner. The clientside algorithm synchronizes the playback position by using the information received from the server. The detailed algorithm is used to accurately synchronize the playback position on the client. Finally, we measured the synchronization accuracy according to the network congestion. The performance results of this experiment can improve the completion time and the synchronization accuracy in network congestion.

Tele-cardiotocograph enabled by mobile technology 移动技术使远程心电仪成为可能

Tocolysis is a treatment to prevent premature labor and thus can reduce the happening of perinatal and neonatal mortality. In developed and developing countries, the increasing of elderly primigravidae usually accompanies the increase in the preterm birth rate and therefore raises the need for tocolysis. To fulfill the increasing need, more tocolytic centers have been established, such as the one in Mackay Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. However, as emergent situations happen and doctors in charge are not on-site, a tele-cardiotocograph system is needed to help doctors to give proper advice by providing real-time CTG data. Currently, the solution practiced in Mackay Memorial Hospital is to send photos of the cardiotocogram to doctors by email or MMS. In this work, the team from NCTU and ITRI collaborated with Maya, Inc. to develop a remote vital sign access system called FetalCare to improve the solution in Mackay Memorial Hospital by utilizing mobile technology. With the developed system, doctors can remotely access real-time physiological data of patients via our app.

Traffic analysis of a social mobile game 社交手机游戏的流量分析

One of the smartphone's killer applications is the game. As the mobile game market grows drastically, we meet a lot of new smartphone games on the application stores everyday. In particular, mobile games have been equipped with social networking features, which is so called social mobile games. In general, mobile games usually require real-time transmission delay and minimum bandwidth contraints. However, troubleshooting or monitoring of mobile game traffic is not straightforward. Performance degradation during the online game is not easily detected or cannot be quickly resolved because of the complicated components of the smartphone game platform, which consists of accouting, distribution, social networking, application stores, advertisement, and related API servers. In this work, we present a measurmeent-based view of a representative social mobile game, Anipang, in Korea. From experiments, we show how Anipang works based on the social network service, Kakaotalk, and present case studies of performance anomalies.

A study on shared and non-shared billing for mobile service 移动服务共享计费与非共享计费研究

In this paper, we study on the price comparison between shared plan and non-shared plan for mobile service. A non-shared data plan is a traditional data plan for a single user with a limited monthly data allowance. A shared data plan allows a user to add different devices to one inclusive plan and receive one bill at the end of every month, which the monthly data allowance is shared by a group of users across multiple devices. Each data plan is charged by a fixed price for a monthly data allowance and there will be an extra charge if a user consumes more than the monthly data allowance. Therefore, the charged price is affected by the user's behaviors. We study the users' behaviors by observing the measured data from Chunghwa Telecom and derive stochastic models for shared plan and non-shared plan to evaluate monthly prices based on different users' behaviors. We recommend the most appropriate plan for a group of users based on users' behaviors. On the other hand, mobile operators can attract more customers and earn more profit. We show that the shared plan is a `win-win' plan for users and operators.
