The objective of this research is to analyze reading comprehension text's cohesion devices from online media. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The sample of this research is reading comprehension texts from ESL Lounge and British Council. The data were gathered using data and collection technique by Lodico (2006) and were analyzed using Halliday and Hasan's (1976) theory. The findings showed that the dominant grammatical cohesion devices of both websites are references. In contrast, the dominant lexical cohesion devices on both websites are repetition. Further, the dominant grammatical cohesion in ESL Lounge is to justify the writer's position and interact with their readers. Meanwhile, in the British Council, demonstrative references refer to the particular object. The lexical cohesion repetition aims to concentrate the ideas and avoid the readers becoming confused in recognizing the terms in the text.

This research aimed at finding out the types of students error in using quantifiers and to finding out the causes of students error in using quantifiers made by the students of first semester at Institute Agama Islam (IAI) Al-Azhaar Lubuklinggau. The design of this researchwas descriptive. The subjects were the students of first semester at Institute Agama Islam Al-Azhaar Lubuklinggau who attended English subject at Tarbiyah faculty with total of 31 students. The instruments were list of types of errors and list of causes of errors. The reseacher focused the study on using countable noun and uncountable noun. The findings revealed that there were 165 errors found in using quantifiers made by the students. The errors were classified into six quantifiers, namely, much, many, a few, a little, a number, and amount. with the most dominant error was in using a few. Moreover, there were three causes of quantifier errors, namely; carelessness, first language, and translation. However, the dominant cause was translation. The researcher found that the students still had difficulties in finding character value, problem and difficulties with previous knowledge and metacognition in preliminary research. Therefore, objective of this research is to identify the factors that cause students difficulties in finding character value of narrative text. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was students of XI MA Muhammadiyah Bengkulu, who had the lowest score in preliminary research. The technique of collecting data was by analyzing interview and giving questionnaire to the students. The result showed the factors that causes students difficulties in finding character value were exception in the decoding process, previous knowledge, motivation or perseverance, high level cognitive skills and metacognition. Based on the result of questionnaire, it can be concluded that most of students were fluent because they often read narrative text, so they can read the text in English easily. Then, most of students had problem in their previous knowledge, so they felt difficult to determine the character value. Although most of students do not have problems in motivation or perseverance because they like to read narrative text, they do not know how to find the character value in narrative text because they do not understand the story, so they felt difficult to determine the character value. Furthermore, most of students have problems in their metacognition, because they must read the narrative text repeatedly to determine the character value. In short, they must summarize the narrative text to determine the character value, because they felt difficult to determine the character value if they do not summarize the text.

The simple present tense is the most basic form that must be mastered by second-semester students of the Islamic University Ogan Komering Ilir Kayuagung. In addition, students are also required to write paragraphs using the simple present tense based on the syllabus. However, most students still have difficulty using the simple present tense in writing paragraphs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the most dominant student errors in using the simple present tense. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The research subjects involved the second-semester students of English Language Education at the Islamic University of Ogan Komering Ilir Kayuagung. The research instruments used a written test. Based on the calculation, it was found that 56.89% error of misformation, 15.51% error of addition, 13.79% error of omission, and 13.79% error of misordering made by the students.

This research aims to identify the meta-discourse feature mostly used and the difference between interactive and interactional categorize among Local, National and International Journals. This research was a corpora analysis employed journal articles as the object of the research. Data were collected purposive random sampling with a total of sampling were 30 articles taken three journals. The data is a cropped introduction section to be made a Microsoft file and processed by using the AntConce Application. Data were analyzed using a qualitative method by focusing on the use of the meta-discourse feature and different interactive and interactional categorized by Hylands (2005). The results show that: 1) The meta-discourse feature that is mostly used in each journal is interactive. The interactive has the same tendency used among Local, National and International journals. 2) The transition categorizes the most frequent in the Local, National and International Journal. 3) The meta-discourse feature that is least used was found in the Asian EFL Journal, the frame markers that are least used were found in Joall journals, and the endophoric that is the least used was found in Joall journals. 4) There are significant differences in the use of interactive and interactional in each journal. So it can be concluded that each writer has known and used meta-discourse in writing articles, the use of meta-discourse is not influenced by the level of journals, both Local, National and International Journal, but is influenced by the writer competence in expressing his thoughts, and the culture of the author's environment. Besides, the articles published in each journal are influenced by the editor of the journal itself.

The results show that: 1) The meta-discourse feature that is mostly used in each journal is interactive. The interactive has the same tendency used among Local, National and International journals. 2) The transition categorizes the most frequent in the Local, National and International Journal. 3) The meta-discourse feature that is least used was found in the Asian EFL Journal, the frame markers that are least used were found in Joall journals, and the endophoric that is the least used was found in Joall journals. 4) There are significant differences in the use of interactive and interactional in each journal. So it can be concluded that each writer has known and used meta-discourse in writing articles, the use of meta-discourse is not influenced by the level of journals, both Local, National and International Journal, but is influenced by the writer competence in expressing his thoughts, and the culture of the author's environment. Besides, the articles published in each journal are influenced by the editor of the journal itself. \u0000 \u0000","PeriodicalId":269976,"journal":{"name":"Edu-Ling: Journal of English Education and Linguistics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123425251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
