: In the Korean film The Handmaiden , director Park Chan-wook does not adopt conventional narrative enmities or present traditional ethics. Instead, he uses lip close-ups to amplify the lust contained within the bodies of the protagonists. This is gradually brought to the foreground, where subjective freedom is expressed through various kinds of tension between the film’s characters. The present study analyses the film’s thematic expression and narrative characteristics of lesbianism.

The official WeChat account in universities is an important channel for information dissemination and image building of colleges and universities, carrying the responsibilities of education, publicity and public opinion guidance. A comparative analysis is made on the reports from the official WeChat accounts of two universities with different dissemination effect by the form of corpus analysis. The official WeChat account of University B takes serving teachers and students as its main responsibility, and constructs the discourse image of a service-oriented and education-oriented university; while the official WeChat account of University A also pays attention to ideological education and services for teachers and students. The number of ideological education reports ranks the first and the external publicity reports are its characteristics, thus constructing the discourse image of educational, reputation-oriented and service-oriented university. In terms of dissemination effect, the count of reports reading from the official WeChat account of University A is affected by both discourse content and discourse form; the count of reports reading from University B is influenced by discourse content and discourse subject. Finally, the paper puts forward some suggestions on improving the dissemination effect of official WeChat account in universities.

The advent of new media has brought about convenient communication, but it has also posed challenges to the governance of social public opinion. This study analyzes the dissemination characteristics of network public opinion in the new media era, including its main types and basic features. It summarizes the various difficulties in the governance of government network public opinion at present, such as the relatively lagging legal construction, conservative governance concepts, the need to improve the ability to manage network public opinion, and the need to improve response mechanisms. It points out that these are the main reasons for the inadequate guidance of public opinion and governance by local governments at present. This study proposes that improving the construction of legal systems, innovating governance concepts for network public opinion, and improving guarantee systems are specific strategies to enhance the crisis response, public opinion governance, and guidance by local governments in the new media environment.

The development of new media technology continues to promote the transformation and upgrading of the hotel industry, and UGC has become one of the driving forces affecting the development of the hotel industry. Consumers turn into content producers and release UGC content through new media means to shape different hotel images, which brings opportunities and challenges for hotel branding. Therefore, analyzing the impact of UGC on hotel brand image plays an important role in enhancing hotel competitiveness. This paper adopts the literature research method to sort out the current hotel image shaped by UGC content in the hotel industry, with its problems, and explore how the hotel industry can actively respond to the opportunities and challenges, so as to provide a feasible basis for the high-quality development of the hotel industry.

Virtual communities in the age of social media have had a profound impact on adolescent identity. This paper explores the rise of social media and the characteristics of virtual communities, as well as the concept of adolescent identity and the factors that influence it. We also examine how different types of virtual communities and social media platforms shape adolescent identity. In our discussion, we highlight the positive and negative impacts of virtual communities, including the positive contribution to identity as well as the risk of self-identity crisis and virtual violence. We made a series of recommendations on how to foster a healthy adolescent identity. These include the establishment of a family support system to encourage parents to actively participate in and understand the activities of adolescents in virtual communities; and the provision of education and support by schools and social organisations to help adolescents better cope with the challenges of social media. By taking these measures, we can help young people shape a positive and healthy identity in the age of social media.

“Sharenting” is a usual habit for families in the digital age. While media outlets describe parents as inattentive and naïve about it, empirical data shows that many of them face digital dilemmas about this practice. Little is known, though, about the reflective practices parents engage in when trying to tackle these dilemmas. To fill this gap, this study explores how a parenting forum can work as an informal reflective and learning site where parents naturally discuss Social Media Dilemmas (SMDs) associated with sharenting. The contribution reports on findings from a thematic analysis of 1,626 posts from 47 discussion threads, where parents sought their peers’ advice and support to deal with these kinds of predicaments, lookingat how these naturally occurring conversations can help parents learn about and make sense of the new challenges posed by the evolving communication ecology in terms of governing their children’s digital footprints.

Taking its point of departure in a photoshoot organized by Danish fat activists, this article explores the relationship between activism, social media, and affect. Through a carnivalesque lens (Bahktin, 1984a), the article illustrates how the Fat Photoshoot as a joyful and festive celebration of fat embodiment challenges prevailing social body norms and understandings of the fat body in society. By including the social media aftermath of the event, the article argues that the Fat Photoshoot’s norma- tive upending of fatphobic culture is extended in time and space. By sharing, liking, and re-posting photos from the photoshoot in the following days and months, the article demonstrates how participants re-invoke an affective solidarity (Hemmings, 2012) fostered by the event. Through affective flows on social media, personal expe- rience is placed within a collective and consequently political landscape (Papacha- rissi, 2015), allowing fat activists to not only envision but also make claims for an alternative future for fat bodies.

This article is a comparative study of how three Danish climate celebrities – an activist, an influencer, and a politician – personalise climate change on Instagram. They engage in personal storytelling about the issue in a way that is closely connected to their public presentation of self and their choice of visual genres. The theoretical framework combines theories of social media aesthetics and publics (Serafinelli, 2018; Papacharissi, 2015), self-presentation (Marshall, 2010), authenticity (Enli, 2015a; Marwick, 2015), and emotion in political communication (Wahl- Jorgensen, 2019). The method is a qualitative case study comparing the three profiles and their overall curational strategy for addressing climate change through particular visual genres and how their personal storytelling is based on performing authenticity, emotion, and connecting with affective publics. The analysis demonstrates how personalising climate change can be performed as coping with climate anxiety, feel-good sustainable consumption, or enthusiastic promotion of Danish green solutions.
