In the rich musical repertoire, sung in Judeo Spanish, and preserved in oral tradition by the Sephardic Jews, numerous songs are related to the ceremonies that accompany che passage rites which define stages of the life-cyde: birth, marriage, and death. This article studies and compares severa! examples, selected from this functional repertoire of the Sephardic Jews (from both, the East and West Mediterranean areas), which were collected by the author, in Israel. Musical and textual transcriptions and analisis of the examples are provided, stressing the functionality of these song in the life cyde of the Sephardic Communities.

Sexual repression has provoked in human communication various mechanisms of displacement by which the genitals have been replaced with other parts of the body. The foot (legs, thighs), focus of attention in this study, has obvious sexual connotations in numerous biblical texts, in Spanish learned, religious narrative and traditional lyrics, and in colloquial proverbs and other sayings in English, French, German and Spanish cultures. The contributions of psychoanalysts and ethnologists are very helpfull in dilucidating the psychogenesis of the symbolic foot; a literary and philological analysis of Berceo' s myracle on the abbess impregnated through the foot shows how gracefully the first Castilian poet evoided the direct, cacophonic and anxiety arousing language and replaced it with traditional metonimies and witty and ambiguous etimologies.

Los autores de este trabajo -utilizando como referencia teorica el modelo tipologico de hermandades propuesto por l. Moreno para el area andaluza- abordan la plausible validacion de dicho modelo en una poblacion rural de la Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid, mostrando el aparato formal y la expresion ritual de las diferentes hermandades en estudio. Los mecanismos de integracion, asi como la articulacion de una estructura social segmentaria, quedan plasmados a traves de un pormenorizado analisis de los niveles diferenciales de identificacion social con la comunidad. Mas claramente: si las hermandades grupales operan como aglutinantes sectoriales de la comunidad -con sus particulares mecanismos de identidad-, la hermandad patronal diluye las identidades y pertenencias a grupos sociales en la reafirmacion de la identidad ·colectiva, a traves del culto a la Virgen de la Soledad.

A study of the «hermandades» (brotherhood guilds) in two towns located in the southeast section of the «Comunidad» l Community] of Madrid: Valdilecha and Ambite de Tajuna. Using the basic typological criteria developed by Isidoro Moreno in his work Hermandades de la Baja Andalucia , we observe that the structure of the «hermandades» under consideration reflects such typology, but the same is not true of their functio?ality, since we find in turn communal-vertical-open guilds, performing group functions all along the year, at the sane time that they concern themselves instrumentally with communal functions: finantial support for the feast of the patron saint and singnif icant presence at this occasion of the officers of the guild.

In this paper I intend to summarize the pieces of information about folk tales in the Vida de Pedro Saputo . These pieces are scattered about in several studies which have dealt with this Aragonese novel in a direct or indirect manner. After setting forth the statement of the facts, I bring in some contributions that enlarge the comparative spectrum of the studied versions. In the same way I make out sorne possible folk-tales that had not yet been recorded, which shows the importance of the folk substratum in the structure of the novel as a sweetening factor of its didactism.

As an attribute of the human being, the skin is polyvalent; it forms the basis for beliefs about immortality, about individual temperament, and about the invulnerability of legendary warriors. These beliefs lie in their turn at the origin of many traditional folktales. The perception of the renewal each year of the earth's vegetation, and of the skins of reptiles, is suggestive for the primitive narrator: the macrocosm also has a covering of skin. So one may identify a wide spectrum of related stories and legends, sometimes facetious, sometimes illustrative of the powers of the Devil.

An analysis is made of sorne literary and oral versions of the tale-type Aa-Th 982 («Supposed chest of gold induces children to care for aged father»), emphasis being laid on its folklore connections and its relations with the indo-european mythical cyde concerning the ordeals suffered by the First King when he surrenders his kingdom and properties to his heirs. This folktale is part of a wide set of fictitious stories and cross-cultural traditions focussed on the eviction of old people, and it obviously refers to the celtic ritual motif of the «Holy Mawle». A new actuality and a stronger social meaning are confered to it in a post-medieval culture marked by a disruption of old patrimonial customs and a growing influence of individualism, coeval with the alteration of age old family structures and values.
