In the lands of Moratalla, in the north of the region of Murcia, on the ground that was uninhabited during the low medieval centuries because of being border with the nazarita kingdom of Granada. There were severals apparitions of Jesus Christ and the Virgin on the firts years of the XVI century in what we have to see how the bendition of the lands that were being colonized. One of these apparitions, was the Virgin of Rogativa which did to built an Hermitage . Today, the last sunday of the month of May keeps celebrating a pilgrimage in her honor, within a serie of rituals that characterizes it.

The importance of the Spanish Anthropological History has increased considerably during the last twenty years, but the training of the Spanish anthropologists still depends on historical texts written by foreign scholars. By joining together the two main research tendencies which can be considered within Spanish Anthropology' s Historiography -that means the national or the regional, and the general one-, it' s feasible to substitute foreign works by those written by native authors.

Franciscan chroniclers and tradition state that Isabel of Aragon established the Holy Ghost feast in Alenquer, Portugal, in the Middle Ages. The feast became widespread in Portugal to the seventeenth century, but toda y only Tomar celebrates a modified version of it. Fifteenth-century Portuguese maritime expansion brought the feast to the Azores. Azoreans later extended the feast during the last three centuries to Brazil, the United States of America, Canada, and Bermuda, where it was modified beca use of geographic, social, economic, and cultural factors. lndigenous elements (flag of the adopted nation, military and social organizations non-existent in Portugal) take part in this most popular Portuguese festival in North America.

The work entitled «Patricio Antonio Lopez, indio romancista» is an approach to the Eighteenth century popular Novohispanic balladry, and in a more general sense, to the survival of the Romancero Vulgar in Spanish America. But it is also an attempt to point at the character of Patricio Lopez: author of bandit' s ballads, general interpreter of the Real Audiencia and unwilling collaborator in gentleman Lorenzo Buturini's project.

This paper devoted to the fishing acticity in the Ajarquia coastal area (Malaga) draws its information from these main sorces. The by laws issued by the Velez-Malaga Town Council, and a historical reference to fishing activity in southern Spain. References to croft industries connected to fishing are also included. We ave finally gathered sorne first-hand information provided by te drag net fishermen who, here and there, still use these old fishing methods.

One of the special features of the Brazilian literatura de cordel , which has come clown to us, is its close link to folklore, and particularly to the folktales. The pliego suelto has been a significant vehicle for the transmission of burlesque tales, with wellknown folk types as main characters, as well as autochthonous figures of identical characteristics. The purpose of this work is to point out the schematic and archetypal features which the said characters present, and which are a clear reflection of the representations defined in folklore. lt is intended to build the corpus of burlesque tales, identifying the different types of stories which converge on each pliego, arranging and classifying them according to the types described in the lnternational lndex of A. Aarne and S. Thompson.

The figure of Saint James Apostle has enjoyed of emblematic characteristics so much in Peninsular reconquest as in the New World conquest. And the worship to him dedicared, includes ritual elements with an important simbolic charge. Still nowadays, he is the most venerated saint in Mexico, having been transformed the festive rituals to him dedicated by spaniards into others that can be so enigmatic as the Jalisco's tastoanes . In order to give an interpretation of them, I'll apply an historie-formal analysis to the transformations system established by ritual confrontations between Saint James and his different antagonists, an other, structuraly analogous, Holy Week and carnival fights.

Aurelio de Llano (1868-1936) figures among the most important folklorists and ethnographers in 20th-century studies on traditional Asturian culture. Llano' s stature is especially enhanced by the breadth and intensify of field work he conducted during the decade of the 1920s. The present article offers a general overview of his published work as a folklorist. A survey of his extensive correspondence with Ramon Menendez Pidal helps to reconstruct procedures that led to Llano' s principal publications, most notably those in which he made significant contributions to our understanding of the traditional balladry in Asturias. Finally, this article evaluares certain aspects of Llano's personality that affected, both positively and negatively, his dedication to the study of popular culture.

This paper tells the history of the Devil from the beginning of Christianity to the 17 th century, using documents linked to a restricted region in the north of Spain. The purpose is to recognize concrete figures of the Devil in a certain space and time instead of enforcing previous conceptions about him. Far from being a stable figure, adapted from pre-christian or classical lore, the Devil evolues in this long-time range. He goes from a intruder spirit, through semi-animal qualities, to a higher or/and subtler form as King of a realm of his own, or as soul disturber. The Devil, thoroughly popularized, is the majar core in the making and diffusion of the Catholic pantheon personages such as the Saints, and the Holy Virgin. He seizes for a time the real center of Christian effective theology. The Devil appears also as the creator of soul interior experience in Christian culture.
