Resumo: Este ensaio pretende discorrer sobre o trajeto teorico da obra de Silviano Santiago, iniciada no artigo seminal “O entre-lugar do discurso latino-americano”, de 1971, presente no livro Uma literatura nos tropicos . Sem me deter no legado literario do escritor diante da cultura literaria estrangeira, faco consideracoes sobre o dialogo mantido entre conceitos desenvolvidos pelo teorico nacional e os estrangeiros, a partir de um processo de montagem reflexiva sobre o entre-lugar. O procedimento visa nao so a atualidade de uma leitura do conceito do ponto de vista anacronico, nao evolutivo, mas tenta apontar coincidencias verificadas pelo autor entre outros pensadores, a medida que estas foram surgindo ao longo do tempo. Abstract: This paper aims at discussing the theoretical path of Silviano Santiago’s work, which began in the seminal article “Latin-American discourse: the space in-between”, from 1971, part of the book A Literature in the Tropics . Leaving aside the writer’s legacy concerning foreign literary culture, I shall consider the dialogue established between concepts developed by the national theoretician and by foreigners, in a process of reflexive exploration on the space in-between. This procedure consists not only in reading the concept from the anachronistic, non-evolutionary point of view, but also in pointing out the coincidences noted by the author among other thinkers as these commonalities appeared over time. Convivência conflitiva 喧闹的共存

Resumo : Abordagem da obra de Silviano Santiago como ficcao teorica mediante a perspectiva do entre-lugar, que busca descondicionar o leitor e o escritor, torna-los aptos a intervir livremente na tradicao literaria, submetida a desconstrucao, que se manifesta enquanto pharmacon , desvelador das estruturas de dominacao presentes nas oposicoes remedio/veneno, bem/mal, dentro/fora, palavra/escritura. Busca-se destacar, ainda, a natureza experimental dos textos ensaisticos ou ficcionais, em constante remissao mutua e mutua significacao pelo deslizamento incessante do significante intra e intertextual. Palavras-chave : desconstrucao; entre-lugar; escritura; ficcao teorica. Abstract : Appraisal of Silviano Santiago’s work as a literary fiction by an in-between perspective that aims to dismantle both reader and writer. Thus making them able to freely intervene in a literary tradition that had already undergone deconstruction and manifests itself as pharmacon , unraveling the dominant structures embedded in antagonisms such as medicine/poison, good/evil, inside/out, word/w. The present work also aims to highlight the experimental nature of both essay and fiction, in mutual and constant remission of sense given the non-stop slide regarding intra and intertextual significance. Silviano Santiago: elogio e crítica a Lévi-Strauss, ou Lévi-Strauss como texto e bom pretexto

Resumo: Este texto analisa o livro de Silviano Santiago, Uma literatura nos tropicos, que completou quarenta anos em 2018, consolidando sua vocacao como um “livro de formacao”. O ensaio procura acompanhar os diversos capitulos da obra e assim destacar o conceito de “entre-lugar”, gerado, segundo o proprio autor, a partir do caos experimental-existencial do escritor brasileiro e do seu atravessamento entre o discurso das metropoles e aquele da producao colonial. O texto objetiva ainda mostrar como, no andamento da obra, a figura de Claude Levi-Strauss ocupa espacos diversos. Se o etnologo do primeiro capitulo e o heroi de Tristes tropicos, ja o antropologo do ultimo texto de Uma literatura nos tropicos e aquele de Estruturas elementares do parentesco e do amplo projeto intitulado de Mitologicas que, nesse caso, comporta-se como grande “adversario” estrutural. Abstract: This text analyses Silviano Santiago’s book A literature in the Tropics , which has turned its 40th anniversary in 2018, consolidating its vocation as a “formation book”. The essay focuses on tracing several chapters of this work and thus highlights the concept of “the space in-between”, created, according to its own author, from the Brazilian writer’s experimental-existential chaos and from his movement between the metropolitan discourse and the colonial production. The text aims, moreover, at showing, in the course of the work, how the Claude Levi-Strauss’ figure occupies certain spaces. Whereas the ethnologist of the first chapter is the hero of Sad Tropics, the anthropologist of the last text of A literature in the Tropics is that of Elementary structures of kinship and of the vast project entitled Mythologicals which, in this case, behaves as a great structural “adversary”. Resumo : Leitura de Uma literatura nos tropicos , de Silviano Santiago, esse ensaio explora as tensoes entre dito e implicado na arquitetura do livro, tomando como ponto de partida, de um lado, certos ecos telescopicos ligando algumas passagens decisivas, e de outro, a invisivel teia de reverberacoes criada por tais ecos ao longo de todo o volume. Ao mesmo tempo, ao destacar a curiosa mescla de reverencia e transgressao que constitui essa prosa, traco evidente no modo como Silviano cita e exorbita autores como Antonio Candido e Jacques Derrida, procura-se demonstrar como, nesse livro fundador, a autoridade associada ao amplo e ousado escopo de sua assinatura caminha lado a lado com uma profunda e paciente atencao aos impasses e pontos cegos que perturbam, em nivel molecular, todo e qualquer texto. Abstract : A reading of Silviano Santiagos’s Uma literatura nos tropicos , this paper explores the tensions between stated and implied in the architecture of the book as a whole, taking as a point of departure, on the one hand, the telescopic echoes linking some decisive passages of these essays and, on the other, the invisible network of reverberations created by these connections throughout the volume. At the same time, by underscoring the curious blend of reverence and transgression which constitutes this prose, a feature evinced in the debonair with which Silviano quotes and oversteps authors  like Antonio Candido and Jacques Derrida, one intends to show how, in this groundbreaking book, the authority associated with the bold and wide-ranging scope of its signature goes hand in hand with a deep and patient attention to the dead-ends and blind spots disturbing, on its very molecular level, each and every text. Uma literatura nos trópicos: notas ao pé da página 热带文学:脚注

Resumo: Como “notas ao pe da pagina”, o artigo retorna a Uma literatura nos tropicos e a seu mais celebre ensaio, “O entre-lugar do discurso latino-americano”, para articula-los a uma sequencia de ensaios posteriores publicados pelo autor Silviano Santiago, nos quais se reiteram e se desdobram os impetos do gesto critico inaugural, desconstrutor, intempestivo e extemporâneo. Exploram-se, portanto, em trabalhos escritos entre 1972 e 2000, as operacoes de confronto com linearidade do argumento historico, as leituras a contrapelo, as recuperacoes no arquivo colonial e a exploracao dos nexos recalcados que sustentam e legitimam, no Brasil, hierarquias, violencias, exclusoes, racismos e a obliteracao da palavra do Outro. We  connect these works to a series of later essays by Silviano Santiago, in which he reiterates and develops the original, deconstructive and untimely critical gesture. Hence, we explore, in writings published between 1972 and 2000, how the author contests the linearity of historical argument, reads against the grain, returns to the colonial archive and explores the repressed nexus of connections, in Brazil, that sustains and legitimates hierarchies, violence, exclusion, racisms and the erasure of the word of the Other. Resumo : A fim de compreender como a discussao sobre nacionalidade literaria se expressou na producao de Jorge Luis Borges, este artigo analisa tres diferentes ensaios escritos pelo autor argentino entre os anos 1920 e 1950 – “Queja de todo criollo” (1926), “Nuestro pobre individualismo” (1946) e “El escritor argentino y la tradicion” (1953) –, nos quais sao discutidos problemas relacionados ao nacionalismo na literatura argentina, especialmente questoes sobre o criollismo , a poesia gauchesca (no que se destaca o epico Martin Fierro , de Jose Hernandez) e as relacoes entre o escritor latino-americano e a tradicao literaria europeia. Para melhor entender a posicao de Borges, recorremos tambem aos estudos de Antonio Candido (“Literatura e subdesenvolvimento”) e de Silviano Santiago (“O entre-lugar do discurso latino-americano”) sobre os problemas da imitacao e da assimilacao nas literaturas latino-americanas; por fim, apontamos em Machado de Assis, elementos precursores das discussoes de Borges, tal como foram percebidos por Leyla Perrone-Moises em “Machado de Assis e Borges: nacionalismo e cor local”. Abstract : In order to understand how the discussion on literary nationality expressed in Jorge Luis Borges’ literary works, we analyse three different essays. They were written by the Argentine author between the 1920s-50s –“Queja de todo criollo” (1926), “Nuestro pobre individualismo” (1946) and “El escritor argentino y la tradicion” (1953) – in which he debates problems related to nationalist views in Argentine literature, especially issues about criollismo , gauchesca poetry (with an emphasis on Martin Fierro , Jose Hernandez’s epic) and the relations between Latin American writers and the European literary tradition. To better comprehend Borges’ position on the subject, we refer to the studies written by Antonio Candido (“Literatura e subdesenvolvimento”) and Silviano Santiago (“O entre-lugar do discurso latino-americano”) about the problems of imitation and assimilation in Latin American literatures. Lastly, we find in Machado de Assis precursory elements of Borges’ discussions, as those were pointed out by Leyla Perrone-Moises in “Machado de Assis e Borges: nacionalismo e cor local”. Resumo: Pretendo analisar, neste artigo, o dispositivo de leitura engendrado por Silviano Santiago em sua investigacao da viravolta cultural que reposiciona os estudos literarios e as relacoes entre arte e politica no final da decada de 1970 no Brasil. Tomo como corpus tres ensaios de Santiago, elaborados em diferentes momentos de sua trajetoria intelectual, a partir dos quais busco identificar procedimentos criticos comuns que caracterizam um modo singular de aproximacao do objeto, a um so tempo difuso e agudo, cuja recorrencia revela uma obsessao do critico pelas inflexoes e pelos descentramentos na ordem da cultura. A enfase recai na figura de Caetano Veloso e de sua atitude antropofagica cujo trabalho, em confluencia com o de Santiago, conjuga elementos de diferentes registros culturais, de modo a revelar as ambiguidades e os paradoxos instituidos entre o campo estetico e o politico, entre a arte e a cultura, no processo de modernizacao conservadora da sociedade brasileira. Abstract: This article aims at analyzing the reading device created by Silviano Santiago in his investigation of the cultural turning point that repositioned literary studies and the relations between Art and Politics in the late 1970s in Brazil. This article elects three essays by Santiago, elaborated at different moments of his intellectual trajectory, from which I seek to identify common critical procedures that characterize a singular manner of approaching the object. Its recurrence reveals an obsession of the critic for the inflections and decentrations in the order of culture. The emphasis is on the figure of Caetano Veloso and his anthropophagic attitude. Velosos’s work, in confluence with that of Santiago, combines elements of different cultural records, in order to reveal the ambiguities and paradoxes established between the aesthetic and the political field, between art and culture, in the process of conservative modernization of Brazilian society. Resumo: Este artigo argumenta sobre a novidade teorico-metodologica de Uma literatura nos tropicos , de 1978, primeira coletânea de ensaios de Silviano Santiago, observando que se trata da emergencia de um ponto de vista pos-colonial para investigar a literatura. Para tanto, sustenta que a diferenca como valor critico e heuristico e afirmada por Santiago por meio do carater relacional e violento da colonizacao. Para desdobrar essa hipotese de leitura, o texto promove uma analise que situa o debate sobre a diferenca no interior da discussao sobre a dependencia para, em seguida, discutir o estatuto teorico-metodologico do conceito de “entre-lugar”, destacando os principais aspectos do metodo critico proposto pelo autor, bem como explorando algumas de suas consequencias. Palavras-chave: Silviano Santiago; Uma literatura nos tropicos ; entre-lugar; pensamento social; estudos pos-coloniais. Abstract: This paper examines the book The Space In-between: Essays on Latin American Culture , by Silviano Santiago, arguing about the emergence of a post-colonial point of view in its essays. Our hypothesis is that the relational and violent character of colonization is the main point of the author’s argument about the critics and heuristic’s value of difference. The approach described here is structured in three parts: the first and the second ones discuss the concept of “the space in-between”, facing arguments related to literary historiography, and the Theory of Dependence, for example. In the third and last part, we explore the theoretical consequences of the concept, suggesting a lecture from the postcolonial point of view . Resumo: O texto busca considerar criticamente a nocao de superastro, presente no livro Uma Literatura nos Tropicos, de Silviano Santiago (1972), entendendo-a como um operador interpretativo que pode tornar possivel um exercicio de teorizacao no horizonte conceitual e fenomenico aberto pela performatividade e pelo modo temporal que a perpassa: a presenca. A questao levantada e se a exuberante figura do superastro pode servir como dispositivo de observacao e reflexao teorica da performance. Palavras-chave : performance; superastro; Silviano Santiago; presenca; teoria da literatura. Abstract : The text seeks to critically address the notion of superstar, present in the book A Literature in the Tropics by Silviano Santiago (1972), understanding it as an interpretative operator that can become an exercise of theorizing on the conceptual and phenomenal horizon opened by performativity and by the temporal mode that runs through it: the presence. The question is whether the lush figure of the superstar can serve as a device for observation and theoretical reflection of performance.
