Purpose: The gender pay gap in South Africa has greatly reduced since the implementation of the Employment Equity Act in 1998. However, there is still a pay gap that cannot be sufficiently explained and addressed by government leaders and scholars. Scholars, policymakers, the radical left, and feminists have carefully highlighted and addressed what is considered to be the major causes, such as segregation of women, women's stereotypes, marginalization of women, wage penalties due to time away from work, child nurturing responsibilities given to women, and inequality in salaries and remunerations. However, the World Bank reported that from 2007 on, the gender pay gap in South Africa was no longer showing any sign of reduction. It was stagnant and thereafter oscillating. As such the purpose of this research is to investigate the causes of the stagnation and the oscillation, and to provide recommendations. Theoretical Framework: This research used multivariate analysis theory to make further contributions on the causes of gender pay inequality in South Africa in order to address the stagnation and oscillation of the existing pay gap. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research method used is qualitative approach. The research design comprises men and women who are already in the work industry in both private and public sector. Findings: This research found that gender pay gap in South Africa is caused by women’s family-career crisis as a main contributor, followed by interests and personality traits, equality of opportunity and career selection. Research Implications: This research paper gives light to further research in Women’s family-career crisis as it seems to be the major contributor to gender pay gap in South Africa. The assessment of how impactful family-career crisis is on gender pay gap is also essential in order to understand the magnitude of it on gender pay gap in South Africa. Originality/Value: This research paper found significant causes of gender pay gap such as ‘family career-crisis’ that shows to heavily contribute to the gender pay in South Africa. This might further give clarity to the governments on the existence of gender pay gap. Moreover this research may help in redefining the government policies on the approach of gender pay gap.

Purpose: This paper aims to establish a methodology that indicates economic activities able to absorb patents related to the main scientific areas of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Methodology: Two steps were important to development this methodology. The first one was to range the UFRGS patent according their degree of importance amongst the knowledge area. For this, the International Patent Classification (IPC) was the reference to organizer the patents. The second one was indicated the industries which have more potential to absorb the UFRGS patents. For this, it was used the Algorithmic Links with Probabilities approach, developed by Lybbert and Zolas (2014). Findings: It was found that 59% of UFRGS’ patents were allocated in just ten IPC subclasses, and at least 63% of these patents refer to technological inventions in the chemistry field. The technological core of UFRGS’ patents, therefore, lies in chemical science. This demonstrates that UFRGS’ patents focus on specific and specialist areas, and that they have significant potential for being absorbed by those economic activities whose products are drugs, therapeutic treatment, beverages, vaccines and insecticides. Practical Implications: This study may help the universities select both patents and priority industries in order to transfer their technology. Originality: It is constructed an original methodology which contribute to find a market to the university innovation. Furthermore, the developed methodology can be replicated in any other TICs which have patents.

Purpose: This study sought to assess the efficacy of bid disputes management mechanism in Kenya. Theoretical Framework: Transparency in public procurement proceedings is a concern for most stakeholders. Allowing aggrieved bidders to challenge decisions of procuring entities is considered a critical development in the space of public procurement. The effectiveness and efficiency of bid disputes management mechanism should therefore be a concern for procuring entities, bidders, and development partners especially. This aspect is yet to be explored extensively in Africa. Design/Methodology/Approach: The Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS) as propagated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) helps evaluate the quality of public procurement systems and subsequently strategize on necessary reforms. This study applied MAPS to assess the efficacy of the bid disputes management mechanism in Kenya. Findings: It was established that overall, the public procurement bid dispute management mechanism in Kenya was effective and efficient. However, shortcomings were noted concerning resourcing of Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB), unaffordable filing fees and accessibility of comprehensive, simple, and clear information on filing procedures. Research, Practical and Social Implications: The findings of this study offer policy recommendations that will help promote effective and efficient management of public procurement bid disputes. Originality/Value: The results of this study contribute to theory, practice and literature in the field of public procurement which is less researched in the Eastern Africa Region. The findings of the study can be replicated in countries that have based their procurement reforms on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Model Law on Public Procurement. It is to be appreciated that application of MAPS indicators allows for subjective judgments by the assessor.
