This article presents a bibliometric analysis and literature review related to dynamic electricity rates, focusing on Time of Use tariff (TOU), Real-Time Pricing (RTP), and Prediction of Use tariff (POU). Through the bibliometric analysis, articles related to these tariffs are determined, which consider the consumption of electrical energy based on the uncertainty of the price of electrical energy, the base load of the users, the increase in distributed generation, the use of electric vehicles, the reduction of the loss of useful life of the assets of the system, among others. Besides, the aforementioned allows a better understanding of trends of research about this specific topic. The analysis reported here may be useful for distribution system operators and the scientific community, but it can also be used as a guide to conduct a review of the literature on other related topics or delve into any of the topics described.

Faults caused by voltage unbalances as a consequence of high-resistance connection (HRC) are one of the most common problems in electrical systems. HRC increases torque oscillations and vibrations, and generally affect the normal operation of machines. This article presents an analysis of the behavior of a synchronous reluctance motor drive with HRC. Simulation is performed under balanced and unbalanced conditions to study the consequences of voltage unbalance. Finally, experimental results are shown to make a direct comparison with the simulation ones.

The future of hydropower industry has as key elements, optimization in operation and maintenance, costs reduction and increase of reliability. This means greater challenges in the operation of hydroelectric power plants, therefore, greater demands in maintenance. With technology advances and its role in the industrial sector through the revolution 4.0 or Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications enables the development and modernization of current maintenance techniques in hydropower plants, through condition monitoring, fault diagnosis and predictive maintenance, thus, an early detection can save a lot of time and money. In this study, two techniques are proposed to enable predictive maintenance in the Peña Blanca hydroelectric power plant, using two deep learning models for anomaly detection. The first one consists of a Deep Neural Network with Logistic Regression to classify various types of failures, for the second one a Recurrent Long Short-Term Memory neural network (LSTM) with Autoencoder is used to classify various flaws. With the first model it was found that it is possible to generalize several types of failures, while the LSTM model adjust better on detecting high temperatures on generator bearings since was a failure that occurred frequently during the study.

This article presents a literature review on tests and diagnostic methods currently applied and under development for High Voltage Instrument Transformers (HVIT). Being HVIT critical assets to monitor and protect power systems, it is relevant to identify which are the methods to take care about their condition during their lifecycle. To supply academics with knowledge of investigation tendencies on this specific subject, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify the most relevant publications. It was found that research is mainly concentrated in three areas, calibration of HVIT, maintenance and diagnostic of HVIT and high frequency current transformers employed for partial discharges test. After a compressive bibliometric analysis over the research subject, 24 very close related references were found and described through the literature review. Despite its importance, there is few research on the subject, especially when it is compared with investigation on other HV assets, as is the case of power transformers. The analysis here reported can be useful for asset managers but also can be used as a guide to conduct a literature review in other scientific subjects.

Modular Multilevel Converters are considered one of the most suitable technologies for High-Voltage Direct Current transmission. However, they have been recently proposed in additional applications such as electric vehicle charging, Solid-State Transformers, and motor drives. In this context, this paper presents the modeling and control of a Modular Multilevel Converter for isolated power transference applications. In this proposal, the converter is regulated to perform Medium-Voltage Low-Frequency Alternating Current conversion to Low-Voltage Medium-Frequency Alternating Current required for fast charging of Electric Vehicles. In addition, simulation results obtained with a 500 kW Modular Multilevel Converter Serie model using PLECS are presented to validate the proposed control and topology performance.

This article presents a model that reproduces the long-term dynamics of the Paraguayan generation system, seeking to obtain a capacity expansion schedule under uncertainty. A centralized power dispatch model calculates the capacity addition rate of four technologies in two stages. First, the model dispatches existing technologies and quantifies the unsupplied demand. The dispatch model then assesses candidate technologies to cover the demand mismatch based on their available firm capacity. For each technology, the model calculates the total cost of covering the deficit and computes an optimal investment rate by applying an economic merit order. By considering Paraguay's Gross Domestic Product, and therefore electricity demand, as uncertain variables, this analysis offers empirical probability distribution functions (PDF) for firm capacity reserve margins and average system costs. By doing so, this model constitutes a tool to assess the uncertain long-term dynamics of generation systems from both a macroeconomic and a power system reliability point of view, according to the integration of firm capacity.
