Efficient real-time implementation of MPEG-4 audiovisual decoder using DSP and RISC chips 利用DSP和RISC芯片高效实时实现MPEG-4视听解码器

This paper presents a real-time embedded implementation of MPEG-4 visual simple profile and advanced audio coding (AAC) decoder using DSP and RISC chips. We optimize MPEG-4 modules using the seamless double buffering memory structure, the dual MAC applied for half pixel motion compensation (MC), and fast floating-to-integer conversion algorithm in AAC.

Attack characterisation of compressed images 压缩图像的攻击特征

We propose the use of robust watermarks to enable the characterisation of attacks even after lossy compression, such as JPEG and JPEG2000. A previously constructed Bayesian framework is used to allow characterisation of attacks from a predetermined library, and the double watermarking technique as earlier proposed by the authors is employed to generate the features used to drive the classifier. The results show that the developed techniques perform well for both types of compression.

We present a low-cost architecture for speech synthesis at 1.6 kbps. The speech synthesis algorithm is formulated in terms of a hardware-oriented design. Based on our proposed speech vocoder, the novel architecture consumes lower hardware resources and is therefore suited for hardware implementation.

We present an MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoder using an object-based motion vector clustering (OMVC) method which can skip frames dynamically and reduce the spatial resolution of frames arbitrarily. Experimental results show that the proposed transcoder using the OMVC method outperforms the existing method with better visual quality.

The paper presents a new real-time frame-layer rate control for low bit rate video over WLAN. Compared with the conventional TMN8, the proposed algorithm significantly improves the quality of the compressed video in both objective and subjective tests.

The aim of our paper is to give the consumers of the virtual world a truly virtual experience by adding one more dimension - the sense of smell. We have accomplished this by means of a special electromechanical device specifically designed by us for this purpose. According to the type of application the ESTER is associated with, it will dispense the scent required by the application at the right time.

A low cost smell detection system for multimedia applications 一种低成本的多媒体气味检测系统

A multimedia system is one of the most widely used consumer electronics environments today in which humans can work or communicate through multi-sensory interfaces. Existing multimedia systems include audio systems and video displays that make use of the human auditory and visual systems. The minor sensory information namely, smell, taste and touch are generally not used. In order to use smell in multimedia environments, smell detectors and producers are required. We propose a low cost smell detector that can be used in a multimedia environment. It is shown that a crude smell detection system, which can detect tens of smells can be developed at a low cost, compared to that of typical systems used in industrial applications.

Hierarchical motion compensated frame rate up-conversion based on the Gaussian/Laplacian pyramid 基于高斯/拉普拉斯金字塔的分层运动补偿帧率上转换

We present a hierarchical motion compensated frame rate conversion (HMC-FRC) algorithm based on the pyramid structure for high-quality video reconstruction. The conversion between images having different frame rates causes motion jitter and blurring near moving object boundaries. To reduce degradation in video quality, the proposed algorithm performs motion estimation (ME) and motion compensated frame rate up-conversion at each level of the Gaussian/Laplacian image pyramid. In experiments, the frame rate of the video sequence is up-converted by a factor of two. Experiments with several test sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

A spatio-temporal equalization scheme for wireless Internet access in rural areas 一种面向农村无线互联网接入的时空均衡方案

Wireless local loop (WLL) is primarily used for providing multimedia services to subscribers in rural areas, particularly for locations where no existing comprehensive telephone networks are available. It provides an economical means of serving these areas with moderate data capacity. The availability of a radio link for data transfer between the subscriber and its corresponding base station is affected by effects such as multipath and rain attenuation. We evaluate the effectiveness of a spatial and temporal equalization scheme to combat the impacts of signal degradation.
