The General Strain Theory (GST) argues that situations/circumstances likely to generate tension foster negative emotions which, in turn, may create conditions for adolescents to manifest antisocial behaviors/offences as a coping strategy and/or as a way to relieve tension. An integrative literature review was conducted, with the objective of systematising and synthesising findings of studies, based on the GST, published in the last 11 years, aiming to circumscribe the contributions of this referential. The search was conducted on the Academic Search Premier, Web of Science and PsycINFO, with the keywords “General Strain Theory” AND “Juvenile delinquency”. To include the study into the review, the criterias were to have: (1) adolescents as target audience; (2) outcome variable “offences”; (3) GST as referential; (4) and being empirical. Fifty-four studies were selected. The results were organized into the following categories: (a) Sources of tension (events/situations likely to generate tensions, linked to the structure/functioning of society, community characteristics, school and family, linked significantly to involvement in offending, but also to other outcomes); (b) The different sources of tension by gender (in parallel with the common sources: romantic break-ups, financial stress and criminal victimisation); (c) Mediators and Moderators (anger, as predicted by the GST, is the main mediator; strong social bonds and positive family relationships stand out as moderators). The GST contributes by shedding light on the various sources of tension that permeate adolescent development and on the subjective dimension of emotions that may underlie the involvement of youth in offending. However, the relationships between tension and offending must be critically interpreted. Keywords: General Strain Theory, infractions, adolescence, emotions, literature review

The COVID-19 pandemic required the world’s population to quickly learn new behaviors that would help prevent the spread and contamination of the coronavirus. The presentation of rules that described these behaviors and their eff ectiveness was one of the strategies used by governments, scientifi c communities, and the media to produce the required behavioral changes. However, there was resistance on the part of the population to follow these rules. This study sought to describe and analyze the possible eff ects of some variables on the occurrence and maintenance of rule-following that prevented contamination by COVID-19, in the light of scientifi c evidence from the behavioral-analytic literature. The variables were: rule understanding, rule complexity, biological conditions and behavioral repertoire of the listener, environmental conditions, who is the speaker, consequences produced by following the rule, formal properties of rules, confl icting rules, and individual history of the listener. The results indicated that understanding the rule is not a suffi cient condition for following it. The interaction between favorable and unfavorable variables to which a listener is exposed changes the probability of following rules. This study exemplifi es how identifying appropriate ways of presenting rules and making them more probable increases the chance of preserving the lives of the world’s population. Keywords: Rules, rule-following, COVID-19, pandemic, prevention

The range of naturalistic observations of personality in online environments has been expanded with new communication technologies. That made it possible to capture a large volume of digital footprints (Big Data). This research aimed to carry out a systematic literature review of national and international scientific articles that used digital footprints to observe personality in the period from 2011 to 2020. The articles were accessed in the electronic databases PsycINFO, SciELO, Scopus (Elsevier), and PePSIC. In total, 25 articles were found, the most used social networks to obtain digital traces were Facebook and Twitter. It has also been found that personality assessment using digital footprints has been used for different purposes, such as developing product recommendation systems and automatic cyberbullying detection systems. The importance of Brazilian researchers to acquire the technical resources necessary to conduct empirical research on personality and big data is discussed, considering that only one of the articles found was published by Brazilian researchers. Keywords: Personality, digital footprints, social networks, observation methods, Big Data

The need to contain transmission of the COVID-19 virus demanded restrictive health measures on social interaction, mobility and access to services, aff ecting health promotion. These measures were found to have a range of eff ects on mental health and other areas, and older people were a particularly aff ected group during the pandemic. The present study aimed to present an integrative review of the literature about the implications of the health measures adopted against COVID-19 for the mental health of elderly people asylum/hospitalized and/or in social isolation, and the strategies to mitigate the eff ects. In particular, the health measures adopted that had isolation/confi nement and/or loss of autonomy characteristics were considered. The search was carried out in the CAPES journals portal in the second half of July 2021, and 19 articles were included. The results pointed out that social isolation during the pandemic period signifi cantly aff ected the mental health of the elderly population. Reduced autonomy, mobility, and physical activity accentuated cognitive and physical decline. The physical detachment can be associated with an increase in depression, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness and helplessness in the elderly population. The eff ects of the pandemic have further reinforced the need for public policies, strategies to care for the elderly and combat ageism. The strengthening of the social support network and the use of digital tools as mediators of social exchanges and health care have shown to be promising tools. In the case of the latter, one should off er access to equipment, instructions, and monitoring in its use. Keywords: Mental health, aged, covid-19, hospitalization, social isolation

More than 25% of Brazilian teenagers are currently experimenting with alcohol and this early consumption is associated with violence, unprotected sex, use of other drugs, depression, anxiety, car accidents, family confl icts and chronic diseases. This scenario may have been aggravated by the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was undertaken with the aim of analyzing the association between fear of COVID-19 and alcohol consumption among students in a municipality in southern Brazil. For that, 170 students answered a controlled one composed of expressive instruments through the Redcap platform. Stata 15.1 was used for statistical analysis. The results indicate that fear of the pandemic may have been responsible for the 5-fold increase in alcohol consumption and that 20% of students had suicidal thoughts during the period of social distancing. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is related to more than 200 harms to cognitive, behavioral and physical health. A signifi cant increase among schoolchildren suggests the urgency of public policies aimed at identifying, monitoring and strengthening social support for the harm resulting from alcohol consumption in this age group.Keyword:Fear, coronaphobia, alcohol drinking, students, suicide

This project aimed to understand how Psychology, in the fi eld of public policies, can present characteristics and similarities that lead to understanding the sense of unity in professional practice, in different areas of activity. It was a documentary, bibliographical and qualitative research, which used Bardin’s Content Analysis techniques for the critical interpretation of offi cial documents (CREPOP’s Technical References and Resolutions for professional practice) and theoretical bases. For the analyses, the MAXQDA was used considering variables/markers and their meanings, together with the reading of documents on attributions and professional practices of Psychology. The References analyzed dealt with the work in Psychology in the following spaces: Brazilian Health System Hospital Services; Human Mobility and Transit; Primary Health Care; Psychosocial Units and, Emergencies and Disasters. Once the analysis corpus was built, the most frequent results in the categorization of main terms were: Treatment (70), Reception (53) and Prevention/Promotion (45). Once the concepts were constructed for each category, treatment and promotion/prevention stood out – such as strategies and interventions aimed at minimizing mental health problems –, as well as autonomy and improving the quality of life of the person assisted. Recognizing the limits of the methodological framework, it was observed that a single defi nition for the work in Psychology was not feasible, while demonstrating possibilities of understanding transversal and common practices to envision a sense of unity, with social commitment, and that respects the particularities and breadth of this science and profession. Keywords: Psychology, professional practice, public policies, social commitment

Once the concepts were constructed for each category, treatment and promotion/prevention stood out – such as strategies and interventions aimed at minimizing mental health problems –, as well as autonomy and improving the quality of life of the person assisted. ntroduction: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the mental health of the population. Objective: We aimed to analyze the perceived stress levels and the peritraumatic stress index in two diff erent samples with Portuguese nationality, one residing in Portugal (study 1) and the other living abroad (study 2). We also verifi ed the eff ect of gender and place of residence in these two samples for the two stress indicators. Method: Data collection took place from May 6th to June 8th. A snowball sampling method was applied to recruit participants. A web-based survey was developed to collect sociodemographic information and data on the perceived stress scale (PSS-10) and COVID-19 peritraumatic distress index (CPDI). The population living in Portugal include 369 subjects, and the population living abroad was 44 subjects. Results: From study 1, 43% of the sample manifested high levels of perceived stress, and 46.3% severe psychological distress, resulting from COVID-19 (peritraumatic stress). In study 2, the results showed that 50% of the subjects had high levels of perceived stress, and 50% had severe psychological distress because of the most recent pandemic. Residents in Portugal showed higher values in all measures studied; female gender also showed higher values in the 2 studies, in all measures. Conclusion: The fi ndings of this study suggest that the pandemic situation caused psychological distress in the Portuguese people. Therefore, we hope that this study can help develop intervention strategies to reduce psychological distress and prevent future vulnerabilities in the mental health of the Portuguese population. Keywords:Stress, pandemic, mental health, COVID-19
