In the last few years a new concept has gained ground in the technology world. With an increasingly dominant role in our days, Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological revolution that is changing our lives. The imagination is the limit regarding the new devices that may arise in the market. This phenomenon is derived from technology evolution and the growing acceptance of this type of products in our everyday life. Faced with such diversity, growing and with the existing uncertainty about the new devices emerging in the market, there is a need to integrate each new device in our lives. However, nowadays, there is no existing structure prepared for the expectable emerging diversity in the IoT world. This work aims to provide some help in this specific point by contributing to the automation of part of the device integration process. Applications that integrate devices from many different vendors are now available, but still rely on manual configuration by the application developers for every new device integrated, which is tedious and requires application updates to be rolled out frequently. An application that can discover the new device properties, and decide to which class of devices it belongs to can automatically generate an interface and the necessary integration drivers for the new device with no/less human intervention. The demonstration that it is possible to classify devices based on their communication properties is this works' main contribution. To achieve this goal we need to identify the device that is communicating inside a network using the information shared by IoT devices. The final results show that IoT communication data can be used to identify the device, mainly if in possession of a considerable sized device information database.

In the current economic environment characterized by doubt and uncertainty the change is constant and those responsible for the organizations must be prepared to respond quickly and assertively to the challenges they face. Internal auditing activity can play a relevant role by providing information that may allow those in charge to decide with more knowledge. Hence this research evaluates the contribution of internal audit to organizations' management and identifies which organizational dynamics influence that contribution based upon a questionnaire responses from those responsible for internal audit departments of 29 large Portuguese companies. Results indicate an effective contribution of internal audit to organizations' management and identifies as enhancers of this contribution organization in internal audit, internal audit and management interaction and internal audit's team qualifications. Therefore, this research highlights the need for those responsible to ensure an alignment and articulation between management and internal audit to reflect benefits of this activity in decision-making and to gain competitive advantages.

In this article we study the relationship between broadband connections, gross domestic product and economic crises in Latin America during the period 2005–2015. Using a dynamic panel data model, our results show that there is a relationship between gross domestic product and broadband connections, but economic crises of countries not being significant when explaining broadband connections to the internet.

There is currently a great difficulty in learning programming. In this context this research work presents a literature review on the programming difficulties, programming paradigms. Here it also presented the state of the art in computer science education in Portuguese universities. Based on this literature review it is proposed here a theoretical model. This theoretical model was proposed and validated empirically with university students of computer science. This model explains the determinants of satisfaction level of students. It also explains the usefulness level perceived by students. The proposed and validated model presents the drivers of students' continuance intention in programming learning.

Due to the growing use of smartphones it is possible to observe a discussion on the benefits and problems faced by teachers in this new digital age. Using such devices, in favor of the teaching-learning process, it seems of great value and has been widely discussed and even encouraged by various organizations such as UNESCO. In this context, this paper presents the application called AmarganA, a game to help the teaching-learning process of the Portuguese Language Spelling. The game has been tested by 10 children of elementary school. Preliminar results show that the game can promote learning of the Portuguese language and stimulate creativity.

The organizations adopt best practices that guarantee the quality of their services agreed with their clients. Universities are not unrelated to this need, because they need to have processes that facilitate the service management. This article presents an experience of the adoption of ITIL best practices in the Service Desk area for the management of incidents and requirements through a web system (GLPI). The area has processes that facilitate the management of services, however it is not aligned with an IT services management framework that allows them to offer a quality service to their users. It is proposed to improve these processes and to implement new processes necessary to increase the level of perceived quality, applying the ITIL framework. The results show greater user satisfaction.

This research includes information on the cultural and media consumption of young Ecuadorian university students and the relationship that exists with the media skills they have. The inquiries were carried out in two stages, the first analyzed the consumption of traditional and digital media of Ecuadorian university students in 2015. Twenty-six universities in Ecuador were studied with representative samples of each university, within a target group of Young people between the ages of 18 and 25, considered generationally as Millennials. 8,483 young people were part of the study group on media consumption and cultural consumption. The second research on media skills was developed two years later (2017), in this case three universities in the city of Loja (Ecuador) will be taken as case study. The results show that the young Ecuadorians experience the generational change, but it still has to critically alphabetize this group under study.

Technologies are being introduced in our everyday life, including schools and in particular classrooms. Teachers are trying to make the most of web 2.0 tools and social media. However, we are not sure if, in fact, teachers are using these technologies and if when they do, if they do so with pedagogical purposes or to help them to manage the learning process or to replace some obsolete technologies by more modern ones but without learning objectives. To contribute to this question a questionnaire was developed and administered to teachers from higher education. Results show that there is still a long way to go before saying that teachers are fully using and taking the advantages of technologies in the classroom.

This article describes the infrastructure and architecture required for the implementation of an automation system for the current SIMERT Tariff Municipal System of Rotating Parking in the city of Loja. The best technological architecture was identified among the models of technological architectures based on web services as SOA, SOAP and REST. The required network infrastructure was specified in addition to both the user's and the centralized management system's applications, which will be used to manage parking times and fines for users. The goal is that the user has the facility to find a parking lot and dial the parking lot from his smartphone through a mobile application, thus eliminating the manual system of physical control cards, saving human resources that were necessary for the surveillance in the different streets where the manual rate system is located. Using the developed application will be an efficient management of the vehicles in use and real time of the parking system, controlling times and fines.

Intelligent Tutor Systems (ITS) are programs that use artificial intelligence techniques to support students in their learning. These systems can be useful in different educational areas. Intelligent agent is an artificial intelligence technique that can be applied in ITS in order to support its users in the process of interaction with these systems. The teaching of electronics is considered complex by many students. Thus, this article proposes an ITS model directed to the teaching of Basic Electronics.
