Treatment for substance abuse in Therapeutic Communities: Understanding practices in Western Amazon. This paper presents the activities employed by Therapeutic Communities (CT in Portuguese) as treatment for disorders related to psychoactive substance abuse in Porto Velho, Rôndonia. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, based on research of specialized literature and Brazilian law. Overall, 18 institutions, represented by their leaders, participated in the survey. The results showed a predominance of philanthropic institutions in detriment of public services; shortage of specialized professionals; high dropout rates; greater offer of care for men; religious activities centered on prayer and abstinence as a therapeutic goal; lack of admission, eligibility, discharge, and post-discharge criteria; as well as disarticulation with official mental-health network. Finally, these institutions lack coordinated interventions, ranging from mapping and CT registration to training, planning, evaluation and monitoring. They do not prioritize the effectiveness of clinical protocols or the provision of humanized services, as should be done by any health service.

Evidence of validity of the inventory of perceptions of attitudinal barriers at work by people with disabilities. The objective of this study is to report the construction process and initial tests to identify evidence of validity of the Inventory of Perceptions of Attitudinal Barriers at Work by people with disabilities (IABW-PWD). Two studies were carried out: (1) construction of the inventory and the evaluation of the adequacy of the representation of the construct through factorial analysis and internal consistency analysis; (2) evaluation of evidence of convergent validity of IABT-PWD with the construct of organizational socialization. In the first study, a survey was conducted with 54 people with disabilities from various regions of the country. In the second study, an investigation was carried out with 17 employees with disabilities from seven municipalities in Minas Gerais. The factorial analysis indicated a unifactorial solution and evidence of reliability of the instrument. The results showed strong correlations between organizational socialization and IABW-PWD and useful characteristics to understand work situations of people with disabilites.

Sexuality and mental health: Constructing meanings among CAPS users. The sexual health of people with severe and/or persistent mental disorders has not been shown a thematic of great investment of the health professionals in Brazil, and rare are the studies done with this population. The aim of this study was to understand the meanings about sexuality of people using mental health services negotiated in sexuality workshops. There were 10 workshops about sexuality, with 43 CAPS users. Data collection was done through audio recording of the workshops and, later, their transcription, careful reading and analysis through categories. A variety of meanings about sexuality could be noted, related to: senses about sexuality; Gender issues; Information, STI/AIDS prevention and rights; and medication and sexuality control in CAPS. The research highlights the need to discuss sexuality in mental health services, in order to understand, discuss and inform the users.

Integrative review about the practice of illegal acts in adolescence (2005/2014). Integrative review of 39 articles published between the years 2005/2014 aimed at identifying the understanding of Brazilian researchers on the factors involved in criminal behavior in adolescence. In analyzed articles predominate researchers and journals from the fields of psychology and health, and qualitative research with adolescents deprived of freedom. For analyzing eight categories were constructed that source three discourse groups on the reasons for deviant behavior. The first group identified the reasons present in day-by-day of teenagers living in the outskirts. The second group looked at the history of life of adolescents: abandonment of experiences, violence and deprivations associated with poverty, lack of opportunity and to imperative of a consumer and immediatist society. The third group problematized the socials mechanisms of identification of certain groups as deviant through discourses institutionalized. It is proposed as historic understanding of collective production, from the perspective of symbolic interaction.

The performance of psychologists in Family Health Units: Relations between Professional Gender and health. This study aims to describe the perceptions that psychologists have about the work activities they develop in Family Health Units (FHU) and the effects from work perceived by these professionals on their health. In order to do so, we analyzed the work activity of the psychologist in PHC services, drawing on the approaches of the French Ergonomics and Clinic of the Activity. We held five meetings with six FHU psychologists and applied the instruction to the double technique with three participants of this group. We recorded the meetings and instructions to the double and analyzed the data with discourse analysis. We discuss the fragility of the collective and of the Professional Gender of psychologists working in FHU, resulting in solitary action and consequent difficulty in dealing with the demands and challenges of daily work, as well as the impact it has on these worker’s health.

CRAS mobile teams’ performance in the countryside of Rio Grande do Norte. The CRAS mobile teams were created to enable the access of families who live in areas which are difficult to access or have an extensive territory to the social services. We investigated how the performance of these mobile teams meets the demands of their territories in Rio Grande do Norte by making eight semi-structured interviews with teams that work in seven small towns. Given the lack of infrastructure and the number of rural communities scattered throughout the territory, the presence of the teams in rural areas becomes sporadic and ultimately the continuity of actions is undermined. The knowledge of the professionals about the reality of the territories is precarious, as the search for demands is asystematic. Nevertheless, some teams perform strategies and actions that seek to overcome the limits and the traditional assistencialism, working in partnership with social movements and equipments that are closer to the families.

Cohesion of teams on the scene: Discussion of their nature and consequent. Considering the central role that group cohesion plays to obtain a good work team performance, an empirical study was undertaken that sought to identify the dimensional structure of group cohesion revealing its constituent components and to determine the predictive power of group cohesion in relation to team effectiveness. The study obtained the data of 177 team members (sample 1) and 138 participants on a second sample. An instrument measuring cohesion, in English, served as reference for the elaboration of an instrument adapted to the Brazilian context. Results of exploratory factor analysis indicated a unidimensional solution explaining 72% of the total variance. Analysis of variance within and between groups revealed that the instrument is focusing on the individual level and not on the team level. Correlations with the criteria of effectiveness showed significant and positive associations among the variables, showing the predictive power of the instrument.
