Ten years after Franco’s death, the Catalan writer Maria Barbal published Stone in a Landslide (1985), a novel about the life story of a peasant woman of the Pyrenees marked by the Spanish Civil War. The aim of this paper is to prove that local and international success of the work lies in the ability of the narrative voice to remember the past from the ethical stance against the secular patriarchal powers and commitment to denouncing the woman’s condition. The work of Barbal still has not had the academic attention that it deserves, especially as a war narrative. In order to place Stone in a Landslide in the corpus of the narrative of memory addressing Civil War, we propose an exegesis that places the focus on the recognition of patriarchal, war and postwar violence suffered by the protagonist.

In this paper we discuss some useful concepts to explain the opposing and complementary relationship between languages that share a specific geosociocultural context. This dynamic relationship is known as linguistic and social interactions. This paper discuss the dynamic processes arising between the mapuzugun and Spanish language, and it also explores some sociolinguistic descriptions about the Mapuche language which are mostly narrow and focus on the asymmetric relationship between languages and the results of these relationships. In this context we propose a new in situ revision of the linguistic interaction to generate territorial diagnostics that consider interactive processes, dynamic and historical, dialectical and identitary concerns that both Spanish and Mapuzugun have in the communities.

The paper provides a brief bio-bibliographical background of the French author Alain Robbe-Grillet and analyses in depth the basic principles of the ‘New French Novel’. It accounts for its conventional time and space breach and looks into its presence in his first two novels; The erasers and Jealousy , which still bear some traces of the detective fiction. This literary analysis exposes their hybrid and postmodern character and the growing parody being made of the police genre.

We present a recovery of the humanistic spirit in the current aesthetics of the media art in the cybercultures. To show the cultural shift towards Neo-Renaissance, we tour the concepts underlying the classical humanism and contemporary art closer to technologic and mediatic rationality. This article reviews the meeting of man with himself, the subjectivities of the Art and the expression in the paradigm of new technologies, science and creativity, as well as the renewal of an emerging visual epistemology that moves the modern concept of the work of art, the figure of the artist and the place of the viewer.

In this article we analyze the ideology behind chilean newspaper La Nacion’s coverage of the chilean-mapuche conflict, specifically during the first government of Michelle Bachelet Jeria (2006-2010). We try to account for the way both indigenous subjects and government officials are portrayed, characterizing these types of actors, to later, in a second part, attempt to account for the general ideological landscape in which these constructs are inserted. We conclude that the coverage moves between three nodal points: first, “cultural recognition”, in which we find the indio permitido ; second, “public security”, where we find the indio insurrecto . Both these nodal points always seem to imply the third one: “governmental competence”, understood as success and skill in generating political governance, a fundamental part of the Concertacion ’s political project.

Historias y vivencias se insertan y acomodan de distintas maneras en el espacio, espacio que es a la vez material, físico y también metafórico. Si bien todos los actos son situados, es necesario volver a llevar nuestra mirada a este, pues dado el uso común de dicho concepto y al hecho de que muchas veces se asuma el espacio como algo ―dado‖, se ha naturalizado, y de este modo prácticamente ―invisibilizado‖ su existencia. Por ello reparamos poco o nada en su significativa presencia, presencia marcada por su particular estética, los elementos de la geografía, sus construcciones (o la ausencia de estas) así como por su historia, la memoria que porta, o su genealogía. El espacio no es neutro ni inocuo.
