The demand for minerals is set to increase in the future due to the global competition, industrialization in the developing countries, digitalization of the developed economies as well as the social and economic shocks in the course of a deep transformation of the international economic order. Dependence on the critical raw materials may soon replace the dependence on oil and gas. A reliable and sustainable supply of both primary and secondary raw materials, especially of the critical raw materials for the key technologies and strategic sectors such as the renewable energy, electric mobility, digital technologies, space and defense, is a prerequisite for achieving national security and independence. The new EU Industrial Strategy addresses security and sustainable development and calls for active action on critical raw materials and creation of sector-specific raw material alliances. This EU policy pursues a strategy of diversification in providing non-energy raw materials for EU value chains and ensuring the social welfare. Diversification of supply is related to reducing the dependencies in all areas by supplying primary raw materials from the EU, by increasing the supply of secondary raw materials through efficient use of resources, and by finding alternatives to scarce raw materials. One of the priority actions was to create a list of critical raw materials at the EU level.

The paper provides evidence that the existing standardized design concept of power supply systems for the mine sites inherently involves existence of an electrical shock hazard to humans when touching the phase of the network. This hazard is caused by the active and capacitive conductance of the insulation due to grounding of the central cores of the flexible shielded mining cables. The functional inefficiency of the ground fault protection used in the mining industry has been proved, including the cases of mine electric networks with high power consumption. An alternative concept was justified to design the power supply system for a mine section electric network, which excludes grounding of the central cores of the flexible cables. This approach implements the principle of selective shutoff protection of the electrical consumers in the mine section using local means to control the condition of insulation in the power connections.

The article summarizes and analyzes the resources, supplies and markets of the world's main natural resource, i.e. freshwater. The materials prepared and published in the article is based on the author's own analytical and field work. Resources of the high quality natural freshwater are tight: they are and will continue to be subject to ever-increasing demand. Over the last 80 years the total consumption of fresh water has increased by 10 times while the population has grown by a factor of 2.5. The present-day world economy is water-dependent. Main consumption of water is defined by the following four sectors of the global economy: agriculture, energy, industrial production and domestic water consumption. Growth in energy production and consumption is directly linked to increased water consumption. Water supply, wastewater collection and treatment are the leaders in capital gains. Privatization of the world's natural freshwater resources is underway. The task of total dependence of arid states on product supplies from the Golden Billion countries is being resolved. The main natural resource and asset of the Russian Federation, i.e. the water resources, is completely missing from the strategies and doctrines of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.

Modern market conditions are characterized with volatility of the prices and demand for raw materials. Therefore the development of many major mineral deposits in the Russian Federation requires elaboration of the company's development strategy which involves solving complex design tasks to ensure production efficiency in complex geological and mining conditions with proper account of natural and environmental constraints as well as the company's sustainability and viability goals over a long period of time. The article presents one of the approaches that can be used when selecting the development strategy of a mining company with account of environmental constraints. Using a limestone deposit, which name has been changed due to the confidentiality conditions, as an example, the article describes options for technological solutions related to dewatering of its reserves. Implementation of these solutions is aimed at developing and extending the lifetime of the mining operation, mitigating environmental risks and implementing environmental protection measures. Systematization of methods to protect the open pit from ground waters is made based on the complicating factors. An aggregated technical and economic assessment of the presented options of strategic decisions is given.

Description of the main theme. Before the Republic of Tyva, the modern conditions of development have put forward the challenges of intensifying the development of natural resources to improve living standards and reduce unemployment. Since coal is the main wealth of the interior of Tyva, it is necessary to find ways to involve this resource in economic circulation. Object problems. At present, a coal-mining territory is being formed in Tyva and the volume of coal production is growing dynamically. There are high risks. Purpose of the study. Analysis and systematization of the challenges and risks of a large-scale increase in coal production in Tyva. Basic methods of analysis. Methods of systemic, economic and statistical analysis, classification were used. The research was based on statistical and analytical data for Russia and the Republic of Tuva and internet resources. Research results. The scientific novelty of the study consists of the analysis of the development of coal mining in the regions of the Russian Federation, systematization of risks arising in the formation of coal-industrial territory in Tyva. Natural, anthropogenic, technogenic and socio-economic risks are identified, differing in the source of their occurrence. Ecological risks from anthropogenic and technogenic risks are highlighted. The ways of reducing the possible environmental load are substantiated. Conclusions. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that in order to reduce the lag in the parameters of socio-economic processes in Tyva, one of the effective ways is the formation of a coal mining area. This implies the creation of an energy-chemical complex for coal processing and the production of a wide range of coal chemistry products, an increase in coal export volumes after the construction of the railway. To eliminate the high risks of this strategic direction of regional development, it is proposed to implement a number of innovative sustainable technology, systematic monitoring of the state of coal mining territories.

Creation of mine development plans for mining operations in the ferrous and non-ferrous metals industry is a timeconsuming and creative process that requires high levels of specialist expertise, especially in manual planning, where it is quite difficult to assess the impact of decisions made hic et nunc on the future development of the company. Application of mining and geological systems in planning makes it possible to simulate and assess many different options in mine development within a short period time and with sufficiently high reliability. These systems allow planning specialists to make more informed and correct decisions without the fear that these decisions may lead to deterioration of open pits or mines. The article describes the course of project implementation to transform the business processes of mine planning using mining and geological information system by Dassault Systemes at the METALLOINVEST Group of Companies as exemplified by the Mikhailovsky GOK Lebedinsky GOK mines.

The paper outlines principles for sustainable development of mining companies during a period of higher risks and global challenges. The main trends in digital transformation of mining operations are described which is based on development of automated control systems with constant increase in the number of facilities and components provided with autonomous control and accounting tools. It is shown that an important stage in the digital transformation of a company is reorganization and enhancement of organization standards for all technological processes as well as development of the personnel competencies with broad awareness of all the stakeholders and creation of trust towards the new digital technologies. The main stages in transition to the new technological modes in mining of mineral deposits using intelligent systems and digital technologies are identified with due account for the specific features of the mining operations.
