Sexual violence against women is a form of inequality in power relations or gender inequality between women and men that occurs both in the domestic sphere and in the public sphere. The issue of sexual violence is not only an individual problem, but a global problem that requires many groups to take part in it, including the mass media. Therefore, in reporting on sexual violence, the mass media as the fourth estate must play a role in shaping the value of equality in society. This study was conducted to determine the construction of discourse on sexual violence against women in Republika Online (ROL) reporting. The researcher uses a discourse analysis model of Roger Fowler et al, who views language as a certain ideological practice to limit the audience’s view of a reality by analyzing the dimensions of vocabulary and grammar. This study uses a qualitative approach to collect data by observing and documenting ten news stories about sexual violence against women in ROL for the period 23 November 2020 to 10 March 2021. The results show that ROL has not taken sides with women as victims. This is marked by the marginalization of the dominant position of women in reporting, both in terms of naming and describing incidents of sexual violence. This marginalization is reflected in the use of passive sentences, nominalization, euphemisms, naming not independent and all that, which will weaken the position of women in reporting.

In the midst of technology development, the growth of radio listeners continues to rise. Jakarta has become the city with the highest growth in radio listeners in the past year. In addition to prioritizing entertainment broadcasts, radio in Jakarta is starting to consistently work on journalistic broadcasts in the form of flash news insertion. Among dozens of stations in Jakarta, there are eight major radio stations that regularly broadcast flash news. One of them is Prambors, where The Highlights insert broadcast on two prime time programs and disseminated its broadcast to eight cities. This study aims to find out the satisfaction of Sunset Trip program listeners on Prambors Jakarta after listening to The Highlights based on Dennis McQuails’s four motives of media consumption: information, personal identity, satisfaction integration and social interaction, and entertainment. This study uses descriptive quantitative methods and uses and gratifications theory with Phillip Palmgreen’s concept, Gratifications Sought and Gratifications Obtained. Researchers distributed questionnaires to 100 respondents who are Sunset Trip listeners aged 15-29 years domiciled in DKI Jakarta and surrounding areas. The results showed information and entertainment motives are two of the biggest motives that listeners have in listening to The Highlights. However, of the four motives none of the motives can be satisfied. The results of the measurement of satisfaction by mean comparison of Gratifications Sought and Gratifications Obtained scores showed that the listener was insatiable after listening to The Highlights.

Tempo Magazine reaped pros and cons when publishing the magazine cover on September 16, 2019. The reason is the illustration shown is a male figure resembling Joko Widodo (Jokowi), but with a long-nosed shadow that is identical to the character of Pinocchio. Many Jokowi Mania Volunteer groups (Jokman) filed a report to the press council because the illustration was considered insulting to the president. However, others support Tempo Magazine’s action and are strengthened by the momentum of the publication that coincided with Jokowi’s action, which passed the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law. It is entrancing to find out the reality of Tempo Magazine construct through semiotic analysis to trigger public debate. By relying on the constructivism paradigm, literature review data collection, and qualitative approach, this descriptive study aims to analyze the discourse in the text on the cover of Tempo Magazine. Through a literature review procedure and qualitative approach, this study explored the discourse in the text on the Tempo Magazine’s cover using the constructivism paradigm. Charles Sanders Peirce’s Semiotic Theory and Metaphor Theory were used as the point of the analysis in this study. It shows that the caricature on Tempo Magazine’s cover is a form of public criticism of the era of Jokowi’s leadership as the president. Based on the study results, Jokowi’s frowning face and the shadow of Pinocchio’s nose are implicitly metaphors for a leader who has broken promises to his people in the context of strengthening the anti-corruption agency of the KPK.

In the current era of ‘flood of information’, people are competing to be the first to obtain and share information, especially that is related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Particularly for those who live in metropolitan areas like Jakarta (with the most COVID-19 cases per January 2021), who are always required to be up to date. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), is feeling anxious or insecure about the possibility of losing or missing something. FOMO will cause someone to be more aggressive in accessing information which can ultimately lead to news fatigue, a condition where a person feels stressed or exhausted due to information overload. Researchers examine the differences of news fatigue practices based on gender in the context of the pandemic. This study uses Uses and Gratifications 2.0 theory along with the concept of news fatigue to news avoidance as well as news and gender. As a descriptive-qualitative study using a case-study method, we utilize media diary and in-depth interviews as our data collection strategy. The results indicate that female participants experienced news fatigue differently from male participants. In the context of the COVID-19 news, female participants felt they were more tired of this topic since most of the news was negative and being reported repeatedly. Their types of jobs and the double burden of participants play an important role in the practice of news fatigue in Jakarta based on gender. Because of this perceived fatigue, female participants are increasingly avoiding news regarding COVID-19.
