Sentence analysis in scientific articles is a literature study that can improve students' ability to think critically. Especially in articles that use English. Syntax analysis is the first step in reading writing before the reader can understand the meaning implied in an English sentence as a whole. This research is literature review research that aims to analyse sentence structure and determine the types of sentences, clauses, and phrases. By selecting the title of the article from the accredited journal Sinta, a search is carried out on each sentence and then classifying sentences and word combinations according to the character and type of sentences, clauses, and phrases.

This study investigates how students perceive their English-speaking ability after taking online classes using the DingTalk app. Using an ethnographic case study and photovoice, data from international students who enrolled at a Thai public university were evaluated to shed light on how students rate their use of English in online classrooms. During the pandemic, student activities with online learning emerged as a lived experience, indicating a convergence of student concerns. The primary aspects of these issues include student expectations for the time and space of online learning, self-motivation, and the participation of others, especially international students and the faculty member's ability to communicate effectively. Ultimately, international student engagement is determined by the congruence between the student's expectations regarding these dimensions and the student's overarching educational and personal goals for enrolling in the course.

One of the challenges identified in the performance of TEYL in Indonesia comes from the aspect of pre-service teachers of young learners who lack English proficiency. Utilizing storytelling as a teaching technique, this study explores the phenomenon of the storytelling implementation by pre-service teachers from the Primary Teacher Education Program and how it helps them develop their English language proficiency. In order to answer the research question employed in this study, two types of instruments are collected: an interview with four pre-service teachers and their English lecturer and storytelling performance videos created by four of the pre-service teachers. Believed to provide a more joyful environment in learning the language, the development was sensed in the plan step of storytelling where these four pre-service teachers prepare the story, read and listen to story references, and practice to make instruction targeted for young learners inside the class. From the videos and the interview, it was found how the activity of practice making instructions help them develop their speaking skills, indicating improvement in the use of word choice and the fluency performed once the plan step of storytelling is being experienced. Nevertheless, it was also found how the participants involved in this study experienced challenges in terms of the exploration of writing skills due to the limitation time provided in the Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Anak Sekolah Dasar course, resulting them to experienced less development in writing skills during the implementation of storytelling inside the class as a teaching technique.

The paper is based on the idea of the usefulness of contrastive linguistics and linguistic awareness for the development of competence and (meta)linguistic awareness in Spanish at university level, in the case of Serbian university students. The concept of linguistic awareness is briefly presented, based on the works of Schmidt 1990, Hawkins 1999, Rieder 2000, Bailini 2009, De Villa 2018 among others. The term is understood as a cognitive activity or a capacity for metalinguistic reflection, on the one hand, and, on the other, as an approach to foreign language learning (halfway between a structuralist and a communicative approach), which allows students to become “highly motivated self-taught” individuals who as such “enjoy a greater power of adaptation at the cultural level through the use of critical reflection” (De Villa 2018: 163, 172). Therefore, we advocate a cognitive approach to languages in contrastive linguistics classes to raise students’ awareness concerning the use of their own language as well as a foreign language (in this case Spanish). In order to test our hypothesis, we conducted an anonymous survey among students on the approach and usefulness of the course “Introduction to Spanish-Serbian Contrastive Analysis” taught at the University of Belgrade. The results show a very high satisfaction with the method used in class.
本文以Schmidt(1990)、Hawkins(1999)、Rieder(2000)、Bailini(2009)、De Villa(2018)等人的作品为基础,简要介绍了语言意识的概念。
