Abstract Students benefit from exploring nature and participating in outdoor activities that challenge them emotionally and physically. The purpose of this article is to describe an outdoor education class with 21 undergraduate physical education teacher education (PETE) students and the benefits of participating in this experience. The second purpose is to discuss the outcomes from participating in an outdoor education unit and the service-learning requirement that was included in teaching a Lifetime Activities course. Finally, the article provides resources, tips and suggestions for planning and implementing a similar experience in other programs.

Abstract Lifetime participation in physical activity is a major goal of physical education. For this reason, teachers should focus on instructional units that provide students with knowledge and skills in content areas that can be used throughout their adult lives. Examples of lifetime activities include outdoor recreational activities, cycling, water sports, winter sports, racquet sports, golf, fitness pursuits, and some team sports. One lifetime activity physical educators could consider teaching is badminton. This article provides middle and high school physical education teachers with the basic but necessary information to teach an effective badminton unit.

Abstract Many classroom teachers in our schools do not know what physical educators truly do. There is a need for additional strategies for physical education (PE) teachers to be viewed as contributors to not only students’ development as skillful movers, but also to the goals of the entire school. By implementing new cross-curricular best practices, the PE teacher can be viewed positively as an academic contributor. At the University of North Georgia, preservice teachers are successfully implementing two new strategies at the elementary level. The goal is to support the entire school’s curriculum and, as a result, silence the whispers of the “gym coach” stigma. This article provides emerging strategies to new and veteran teachers on how to successfully implement cross-curricular content within their physical education programs without needing to make overly invasive changes.

Abstract To combat the ever-increasing number of symptoms of ADHD in the classroom, this article suggests a few strategies and a one-week physical activity plan for educators to adopt during the school day. These strategies are easily implemented, requiring no additional equipment, tools or extra time.
