The features of the functioning of the neural layers of the retina in the processing of data from photoreceptors for transmission to the optic nerve have been investigated. A procedure for the implementation of dynamically changing pooling is proposed in order to reduce the dimension of the data being processed. The procedure is also useful in problems of finding relationships using the attention mechanism. As a result of the computer simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is shown.

Face detection on images is a classical computer vision task. Solution to this problem is used in a wide range of apps, mainly in those connected with providing for the elements of administration (access to the data based on a person's face) and elements of control (perimeter safety control systems). The most spread object's face detecting methods may be divided in two groups: classical one (common example is Viola–Jones method) and one based on a neural network (common example is a cascaded convolutional neural network). There are plenty comparisons of face detection methods that, however, do not usually consider the potential for optimization within the parameters of realization methods in question. This paper focuses on the comparison of the parametrically optimized ways of implementation of methods which are typical for each class. Optimization is being carried out in accordance with the algorithm suggested in this paper. It reveals that the optimized Viola–Jones method is inferior to MTCNN by 20–50 % in view of the quality metrics but outruns it 7–14 times when it comes to the processing speed per image. It shows that without using algorithm optimization by parameters, it is barely impossible to get a fair quality and capacity just as the average value of the quality and capacity metrics are visibly lower than the optimal ones.

In this work, we consider complex dynamical phenomena in a modified Chua's circuit with a memristive element, we conduct a number of experiments to control its dynamical modes. The circuit model is represented by a fifth-order nonlinear dynamical system. The dynamical properties of the system are investigated in phase space using diagrams displaying bifurcations and regions of periodic and chaotic regimes. The paper presents a new approach to multistability control based on varying the symmetry coefficient of a semi-implicit finite-difference scheme. The results of numerical analysis confirm the suitability of this approach both for the complete suppression of multistability due to the transition to a fixed point or a single chaotic regime, and for fine tuning with access to the attractor of the required periodicity.

The article devotes to the development of a robotic tentacle belonging to the class of soft robots. Such robots provide reliable grasping of objects in hard-to-reach places without great mechanical effort, which makes them in-demand in various fields of collaborative robotics. The working principle of a mechanical tentacle is described. A solution to the problems of positioning and providing motion of the tentacle, for which it is proposed to use feedback based on load cells and a drive mechanism based on stepper motors, is considered. The mentioned design solutions were applied and investigated during creation of a prototype of a tentacle robot, and their perspectivity is recognized.

The technological process of metering gas consumption is the main one at a gas metering station. The measurement results are used to form the value of the gas balance in the gas transmission system and affect its economic efficiency. Therefore, the automation of control of its parameters is an important task. The article discusses the possibility of applying machine learning methods, and in particular, artificial neural network algorithms, in an automated control system for the gas consumption metering process at a gas metering station.

The paper presents the evaluation of the median filters with weighted central elements use for cleaning images from impulse noise. The influence of obtaining undistorted pixels probability and distortion of the image pixel distribution function on the processing is shown. It is demonstrated that median filters with a window $3times 3$ allow obtaining a higher quality of image cleaning from noise with a small probability of impulse noise, and median filters with window sizes $5times 5$ and $7 times 7$ allow to obtain a higher quality of image cleaning from noise with a high probability of impulse noise. The obtained results can be used in medical image processing and adaptive filtering systems for photo and video data processing.

The cardiovascular system (CVS) is a complex and multifunctional system, the control of the parameters of which is a complex task. This study is aimed at solving the problem of analyzing the biotechnical system, consisting of CVS with an univentricular circulation and mechanical circulatory support systems. For this study, a specialized rotary mechanical circulation device was developed. In the course of experimental studies, the hydraulic characteristics of this device were obtained. We studied the biotechnical system at various configurations of the total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC-1, TCPC-2 and TCPC-3) and in the range of impeller rotations of 7000–14000 rpm. Based on the results of this study, we came to the conclusion that the TCPC-3 configuration better normalizes the parameters of the biotechnical system of mechanical circulatory support, and the range of the impeller operation is also determined, at which the system parameters do not exceed the critical level. By maintaining all parameters in a safe physiological range, cardiac output in the CVC with an univentricular circulation is increased by 20%. The results of this work can be used to optimize the control parameters of the circulatory support systems.

The paper considers existing methods to enhance the ergonomic quality of the control panel user interface by optimizing the interface layout, and also propose and describe a new one. The methods use the linear programming approach, which entails a target function of time spent to reach the functional groups of the controls presented in the user interface, and depends on the usage frequency of the functional groups, and minimizing the target function. The authors used the proposed new method, along with the already existing to optimize the interface layout of the Roland MC-909 synthesizer, used as a research object. The authors further compare the efficiency of different linear programming methods for positioning functional groups of controls and the original interface layout.

This paper describes the method of preparing spectral data of electric logging for convolutional neural network models based on mel-frequency cepstral coefficients methodology as a part of automatisation of facies analysis. As an example, the allocation of coefficients for two types of facies is considered. The result of the research show the possibility of using the considered method for preparing spectral data of electric logging.

The broad tendency of transition from the “classical” hierarchical architecture of information-control systems to network centric systems and the development of Network-Centric Systems (NCS) is noted. The increasing relevance of ensuring interoperability in the systems associated with this trend, is shown. It was also noted that international documents in the field of interoperability have a number of shortcomings that complicate their application in the Russian legal field. An approach is proposed to ensure interoperability in the NCS based on the harmonization of the Russian standard GOST R 55062–2012 and documents of the international consortium NCOIC. The final product of the approach will be the new Russian standard GOST R “Information Technologies. Network-Centric Information and Control Systems. Interoperability”.
