The COVID-19 epidemic has disrupted the development of the global economy. Virtually all sectors experienced a negative impact, which forced the transformation of many enterprises. In the case of the ICT sector, new environmental conditions pose a threat but also a development perspective, which forces ICT enterprises to introduce cross-cutting changes within their activities. These changes are not limited to the ICT sector but affect other economic sectors.

A prevalent problematic issue spreading nowadays among the global community is the increasing demand of electricity, and Demand Side Management programs are suggested to be the best method for reducing the demand of electricity. Nevertheless, implementing such technologies is still an issue because the behavior of customers is different from one region to another, and the applicability of such technologies largely depends on the perceptions and the acceptance level of that specific region.

Electronic learning is fast becoming a crucial aspect of learning in higher institutions of learning. Just as in any other technology, there are important factors that affect users’ behavioural intention to adopt e-learning. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) identified performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions as some of the factors that may influence the behavioural intention and actual use of a technology.

Shopping activities in the 21st century are taking a social dimension rather than mere commercial activities. This is evident in the importance of consumer attachment to shopping and choice of shopping place, which necessitated the increase in the number of megamalls in many cities globally, including Nigeria. This study examined the shopaholic phenomenon, choice of shopping place, and the development of megamalls in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Providing gerontological cares represents an increased challenge when applied to rural scenarios. This paper discusses the role of technology in gerontology and specifically how technology-based solutions can be developed to assist the elderly population in rural areas. We also characterize the Northeast Portuguese region exposing its rural characteristics and presented some demographic numbers. Finally, a conceptual model and a prototype supported by mobile devices are presented to assist and monitor the elderly and enhance business opportunities. The developed prototype allows not only to assist the elderly in a set of typical elderly population routines - such as those related to health - but also to improve the interaction between the elderly and their relatives and / or caregivers. This work is part of a more extensive effort that has been made in the search for effective solutions to assist the elderly population in rural areas, typically distant from the main health and / or support services; contributing to relieve these deficits.
