Se presenta un estudio cuasi experimental de campo, desarrollado en el aula de traducción, con el que se persigue analizar la influencia que el feedback del profesorado puede ejercer en las creencias de autoeficacia de sus estudiantes. Este estudio se llevó a cabo en tres grupos de una asignatura de traducción especializada (español-inglés) y adoptó un enfoque metodológico mixto que combinaba las siguientes técnicas: observación en el aula, entrevistas al profesorado, grupos de discusión con estudiantes y la encuesta. Esta última incluía la Escala de Creencias de Autoeficacia del Traductor (Haro-Soler, 2018a). Los resultados obtenidos apuntan que el feedback constructivo (que incluía feedback positivo, negativo, indirecto y elaborado) y basado en la colaboración y el diálogo entre estudiantes y profesores parece haber repercutido positivamente en las creencias de autoeficacia de los estudiantes de dos de los grupos del estudio, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la resolución de problemas de traducción. Por el contrario, el feedback directo, simple y centrado únicamente en errores, propio de un enfoque transmisionista, no solo no favoreció, sino que parece haber disminuido las creencias de autoeficacia de los estudiantes del tercer grupo a la hora de tomar decisiones de traducción. En consecuencia, a pesar de la dificultad que conlleva desarrollar estudios cuasi experimentales en el aula (Nunan, 2007), el estudio aquí presentado contribuirá a satisfacer la necesidad de realizar estudios con diseño cuasi experimental (Bolaños-Medina, 2014a) que permitan identificar, con respaldo empírico, prácticas docentes que puedan favorecer el desarrollo de creencias de autoeficacia realistas por parte del estudiantado durante su formación en traducción.

El propósito de este artículo, que tiene su base en un Trabajo Fin de Grado, es estudiar y analizar la traducción oficial de la serie La casa de papel en la combinación español-árabe, poniendo especial énfasis en el tratamiento del lenguaje ofensivo y/o de las expresiones tabúes. Con este trabajo se podrá observar el rol tan importante que tienen ciertas culturas en el mundo audiovisual, por ejemplo, a la hora de subtitular una película, ya que a menudo se encuentran grandes diferencias entre el texto origen y el texto meta. Es cierto que resulta complicado traducir el lenguaje soez a la lengua árabe, debido al alto grado de formalidad del árabe clásico, pero esto no niega el hecho de que existan palabras obscenas en este registro culto. Es aquí donde la cultura juega un papel relevante, porque, de una forma u otra, los países árabes, a diferencia de algunos occidentales, tienen una cultura muy conservadora en este aspecto. Es muy importante mantener las formalidades del lenguaje en ciertos formatos, como la televisión, la radio, la prensa, etc. Esto afecta muy a menudo al mundo audiovisual, precisamente cuando se tienen que traducir temas políticos, religiosos, expresiones soeces o contenido tabú en general. Dichos temas se convierten en pequeñas dificultades para algunos traductores o subtituladores, a los que no les queda más remedio que utilizar ciertas estrategias y/o técnicas de traducción (Hurtado Albir, 2001) para mitigar el contenido al que se enfrentan. En este trabajo, se tratará el tema con más profundidad y se mostrarán algunos ejemplos para exponer las diferencias tan significativas que pueden llegar a originarse.

The Greek Phronesis is among the key concepts in Aristotle’s ethics and politics. It appears especially in the Book VI of his Nicomachean Ethics. The translators of Aristotle’s work could only render those aspects of its meaning that they were able to comprehend. The present study examines how phronesis is transmitted into Arabic in the revised version of the first known translation of the Nicomachean Ethics by Isḥāq Ibn Ḥunain (9th century) where he renders it to ta‘aqqul, ‘aql or fahm, and the translation made by ‘Abd ar-Raḥmān Badawī (20th century), who translates it as fiṭna. The findings are occasionally compared with the English and German translations of the same text by two significant commentators of Aristotle. The paper concludes that while Ibn Ḥunain’s renderings are historically justified, all in all, Badawī has translated the Greek terms with relative faithfulness, although he occasionally fails to establish a correlation between the concepts.

On Today, the individually neutral words ‘global’ and ‘warming’ combine to provide an epithet whose consequences, already causing misery and premature death for millions, hold the prospect of unquantifiable change and potential disaster on a global scale for the decades to come. While the link between rising global temperatures and increasing atmospheric concentrations of CO2 has been known for more than a century, there is increasingly the sense that governments are failing to come to grips with the urgency of setting in place measures that will assuredly lead to our planet reaching a safe equilibrium. Today, the developed world is struggling to meet its (arguably inadequate) carbon-reduction targets while emissions by China and India have soared. Meanwhile, signs suggest that the climate is even more sensitive to atmospheric CO2 levels than had hitherto been thought. Alarmed by what are seen as inadequate responses by politicians, for a number of years some scientists and engineers have been proposing major ‘last-minute’ schemes that, if properly developed and assessed in advance, could be available for rapid deployment, should the present general concern about climate change be upgraded to a recognition of imminent, catastrophic and, possibly, irreversible increases in global temperatures with all their associated consequences. While such geoscale interventions may be risky, the time may well come when they are accepted as less risky than doing nothing. The above sets out the main elements that have led Phil. Trans. R. Soc. A to publish a Theme Issue on such macro-engineering options and to subject them to critical appraisal by acknowledged experts from around the world. In inviting contributors to this issue, we have turned especially to speakers at a workshop on Macro-Engineering Options for Climate Change Management and Mitigation organized by Prof. John Shepherd, FRS and Prof. Harry Elderfield, FRS in January 2004 on behalf of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. While that meeting at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge provided stimulating exchanges among participants, no proceedings were published. Moreover, in the rather more than 4 years that have elapsed since that meeting, some of the current contributors have changed their views on the best strategy to adopt while others have developed them much further. It is our hope, therefore, that the present collection of articles will be seen as a timely and authoritative, though inevitably incomplete, statement of where the subject stands today. The Theme Issue is presented in three parts, the first of which, Scene Setting, provides over the four articles a historical and philosophical overview combined with projections of future CO2e levels and the foreseen capacity (or limitations) of conventional sequestration.
