: Laus martyris … tua laus est . The poems XV and XVI of Paulinus Nolanus between epic tradition and Neo-Platonic exemplum . The poems XV and XVI by Paulinus Nolanus constitute, in the author’s corpus , a real vita Felicis , built on the basis of different literary genres, from the Hellenistic exemplum to the classical epos . The textual analysis demonstrates the harmony with the contemporary Neoplatonic reflection, which inspires the lexical choices and the ways of presenting the figure of the confessor, whose story is structured according to the key concepts of late antiquity philosophical schools. With the two poems examined, Paulinus anticipates some characteristics of the subsequent me-dieval epic and, at the same time, outlines the model of the politician of the new Christian era. antic

“Am I Immortal?”. Augustine’s responses in the early dialogues “我是不朽的吗?”奥古斯丁在早期对话中的回应

In our article we follow Augustine’s arguments in favor of the immortality of the soul, linked to the experience of Cassiciacus; methodologically, we focus the unity of discourse on the question in the first person (“Am I immortal?”) and on the Neoplatonic line of reflection. There we recognize three instances: esse cum Deo or the soul that lives by faith, non esse sine Deo or the soul that seeks wisdom without having found faith, and regressus in rationem or turn of the soul that takes up the fact of faith by the rational way. Despite the difficulty of the solutions, proportional to the size of the problem, and the predominance of the aporetic argument, the author confirms the need for an absolute starting point in reasoning. This conclusion will be the basis for the treatment of the problem in later works, providing the key to the first person in the question of immortality.

: The epigraphic and numismatic image of Hadrian in Hispania: relationships with the general context of the Empire . Hadrian’s public image has been projected in his time and in subsequent centuries through his intense legal and administrative activity, as well as his travels. His stay in Hispania was preceded by infrastructure works and improvements in the places where his presence was expected, although the journey made by the Prince in the Iberian Peninsula is still the subject of debate. These pages provide an up-date on this issue, as well as the transformation of Italica , the family homeland, and its reflection on the coins of the final years of his government, when a true “international program” was carried out.

: In 1845, when he was retired in Slatina monastery, not long before passing away, Veniamin Costachi, the Metropolitan of Moldavia and Suceava, translated into Romanian the book Church History by Blessed Theodoret of Cyrus, following the Greek text edited by Evghenie Vulgaris. Later, in 1894, Professor Constantin Erbiceanu printed Veniamin’s translation, preferring it due to the transla-tor’s “great fame” and in order to “preserve the appreciated effort among the Ro-manians.” In the second half of the twentieth century, the same reasons were also taken into account by the publisher who proposed to reproduce Theodoret’s text “in the current Romanian language”, but he insisted on pointing out the fact that “he humbly shows his respect and admiration for the great Moldavian Metropolitan and scholar / Veniamin Costachi – n.n./ , who made this translation and brought in his time a priceless benefit to the Romanian theological culture”. ,,în ,,p i i ,

: Political ideas in Latin breuiaria from the 4 th -5 th cen-turies. The unity and uniqueness of Roman history . In Late Antiquity the breuiaria enjoyed a very wide diffusion in the field of literature, historiography, theology, law, military art, etc. The paper focuses on the historiographical breuiaria , especially Historiae abbreviatae by Aurelius Victor (ca. 358-360/1), Breuiarium ab Vrbe condita by Eutropius (369), Breuiarium rerum gestarum populi Romani by Rufius Festus (369-370), Epitome of Caesaribus composed by an anony-mous person in the first years of the 5th century. The purpose of our analysis is to highlight the way in which these writings reflect the evolution of the main ideas circulated in the IV-V centuries. In this sense, it can be appreciated that, although in a less developed and analytical way than other writings, the brevias capture the general course of thought of the time: from the “iconicity” of Rome to the recognition of the imperial character of Constantinople; from the anti-barbarian sentiment to the possibility of “Romanization” of the barbarians; from aggressive imperialism to defensive and pacifism; from imperium indiuisum to veiled criti-cism and, finally, acceptance of the division of the state; from imperium sine fine to imperium restitutum ; from din urm ă , acceptarea diviz ă rii statului; de la imperium sine fine la imperium restitutum ; de la „neutralitate” religioas ă la a-p ă rare prudent ă a p ă gânismului ș i recunoa ș tere tacit ă a suprema ț iei cre ș tinis-mului; „romanocentrismul”; legitimismul monarhic; conceptul de princeps bonus ș În acest text sunt discutate modalit ăț ile prin care autorii lucr ă rilor amintite subliniaz ă unitatea ș i unicitatea istoriei Romei. : Observations on some stylistic and syntactic aspects in Iulii Obsequentis Prodigiorum Liber : classic models and late innovations . Prodigiorum liber , a late Latin text with a “technical” character (an inventory of prodigies), is not entirely devoid of stylistic figures. Syntactic dislocations usu-ally have a pragmatic role, but, sometimes, especially under the classical influence, an ornamental one. Unlike other disjunctions, the “verbal” hyperbatum is much ra-rely used in this work and its presence draws our attention, being a surprising stylistic subtlety for a non-literary text belonging to Late Antiquity. : A timeless travel: Venantius Fortunatus’ De navigio suo ( carm . 10, 9). Venantius Fortunatus’ De navigio suo ( carm. 10, 9), the description of a journey made by the poet from Metz to Andernach along the Moselle and Rhine rivers, has a lot of spatial information but it absolutely contains no time re-ference. The poet does not offer any information about the overall duration of the journey nor of its various stages; he does not place the journey in a particular season, nor does he include any of its stage into a specific part of the day. Temporal uncertainty also characterizes Venantius’ other odeporic poems, even if it is not typical of the previous Latin odeporic poetry. Except when its transience is considered, as a matter of fact, time seems to be a meaningless dimension in Venantius’ poetry, especially in relation to the past and the chronology of events. Venantius’ poetry, actually, is very related to circumstances and characters of the present, although with recurring openings towards the future and eternity, especially in the expression of wishes and prayers.
