This work deals with the early history of the collegiate churches of Bratislava and Nitra in the 11th and 12th centuries. This paper aims yet to unfold the connections between the archdeaconries and collegiate churches in Hungary during the Arpadian age.

The study intends to investigate a political pamphlet written by the famous, nevertheless, in Hungary rather neglected Presbyterian minister and diplomat, Robert Baillie. In this work of his he tries to refute the ecclesiological tenets of the Independents also known as Congregationalists. The latter had a good share in shaping "the New England mind", i.e. they were very influential in 17th-century Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The author does not refrain from making fun of the "Canterburians", the "Faction" he blames throughout the polemical writing for all the "problems" arising with the new "sects". The study is meant to illustrate that theological and political issues were closely intertwined in the 17th century.

This essay is looking over the use of Humanist capitalis letter types in the first Renaissance period in the Hungarian Kingdom. In the case of stone inscriptions, the Humanist capitalis letter remained the most characteristic type from 1467 till the historical epoch-marking year of 1541. Its provincial variations appeared in the country at the beginning of the 16th century and became widely accepted till the 20th century. The excessive use of ligatures and enclaves became more marked after 1500 and they were fashionable till 1541. The type called early Humanist capitalis can be observed on a seal of King Matthias from 1472. Its general usage can be dated to the first decades of the 16th century.

In the paper is presented one of person of the Hungarian — Galichian connections at the beginning of 13th century, Volodislav Kormilchich. In the historiography he mentioned as one of the Galichian boyars and his stay in Hungary between 1214-1232. Revisiting some conclusions advanced in his 1996 edition of Pravda Voli Monarshei, the author first considers the meaning of 'Pravda' in the title of the work. He then reconsiders the doubts as to its authorship raised by James Cracraft in 1981 in his influential article 'Did Feofan Prokopovich really write Pravda Voli Monarshei?' (Slavic Review, vol. 40, No. 2, pp.173-93). Finally he examines the accepted belief, now current for almost a century, that Hobbes is a source of Pravda Voli Monarshei.

The study intends to examine the two related concepts of contract and sovereignty which (practically unknown in Muscovite Russia) are commonly referred to as proofs of dominance of western concepts in PVM. By examining these concepts in the text I try to point out the Muscovite legacy of the argumentation. I claim that the contract of government between the people and the ruler contains the Muscovite idea of God acting through the people ("the will of the people is the will of God" — the crucial premise legitimating succession both in 1598 and 1613 in official documents) while the concept of sovereignty is predominantly justified by traditional references to the Bible and not so much by arguments taken from western political theory.

The present paper is a short contribution to the relations of the Holy See and Hungary at the end of the Eleventh Century. At this time, a certain Teuzo as legat had several importance on the Hungarian-papal diplomatic relations. The aim od the present paper is to identificate the two Teuzos (Teuzo I., the antipope Clément III’s men and Teuzo II, popes Gregor VII, Urban II and Pascalis II’s legat) related in the contemporary sources.

In the first third of the fourteenth century a new type of document appeared in Muscovite Rus': the testamentary will. Examining the documents, we can follow the development of ownership relations, the operation of the grand princely court, and the division of movable and immovable property, tax revenues, personal property, jewellery, and valuable clothing items. The testamentary wills provide information conceming the history of 'Kalitovič' family, giving us insights into the events preceding the birth of the Russian state and the development of its institutions.

H. H. Rowen termed “proprietary dynasticism” the early modern view that “public power was dynastic property”. Rowen’s work warns us not to read undue modernity into 17 th century Western monarchies, but at the same time challenges seriously R . Pipes’ contention that the patrimonial (concept of) state is a salient characteristic distinguishing Muscovite Russia from the West. I am convinced that the inclusion of “proprietary dynasticism” into historical analysis as an aspect of its own right wil l result in a better understanding of not only Western monarchies (as Rowen asserted) but also of Muscovite (and even Imperial) Russia. It should be viewed as a feature common to all monarchies. Then, not “proprietary dynasticism” itself, but its strength and endurance will be the distinguishing Russian characteristic. The strength of this view notwithstanding, important changes could and, indeed, did occur in the meaning of gosudarstvo in the 17 th century. And contrary to Pipes’ assertion, gosudarstvo coul d be distinguished from the person of the ruler even before the mid seventeenth century, i.e. before the westernization of Russian ideology.
