Two-dimensional barcodes: An effective real world example to teach design and programming 二维条码:一个有效的现实世界的例子,教设计和编程

In this paper, we will discuss the experience of developing projects based upon a central real world example to introduce first year students to engineering. We will outline how the theme of two dimensional barcodes was used to introduce our students in the freshmen Foundations of Engineering I (ENGR111) course to the key skills of engineering design, problem solving, teamwork and computer programming. Results show that the students found the experience positive.

Modeling of a VoIP Server based on the number of call 基于呼叫数的VoIP服务器建模

In this paper, we define analytically a mathematical model of a VoIP Server, or more precisely the Asterisk server from the search results of Eduardo and Pablo Montoro casilari. From these models we verified the similarity of results from the outcome of the experiment cited above. Our theme therefore focuses on using material: RAM, CPU and bandwidth of a VoIP Server with respect to the number of calls emitted by clients using the serve.

Priority based, adaptive queuing for differentiating services in IP based networks 基于优先级的自适应排队,用于IP网络中区分业务

Packet classification and packet scheduling are important and basic techniques used in network nodes, in order to provide quality of service for packets belonging to different applications. In this paper we propose a new priority based, adaptive queuing algorithm, including an adaptive, packet-by-packet classifier for differentiating services in IP based networks. The proposed queuing paradigm focuses on providing delay sensitive application's requirements while not imposing noticeable delay on other applications and improving fairness and the performance of the system at the same time. The main advantage of the algorithm is that, it can dynamically adopt its parameters to the changing nature of the Internet. The simulation results, which are very promising, confirm that the algorithm has reached its goals.

The design, implementation and evaluation of a web-based student teachers' ePortfolio (STeP) 基于网络的学生教师电子档案(STeP)的设计、实现与评价

This paper presents the development process of a web-based student teachers' ePortfolio system for the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. Literature shows that at a higher educational level, a student ePortfolio is becoming an important tool as it is being used to enhance the learning process through constant tutor and peer feedback, self-regulation and reflection. Many ePortfolio applications exist that may help university faculties to collaborate with their students. However, these existing applications concentrate on general ePortfolio content and allow limited flexibility to be tailored to specific structured ePortfolios that is actually needed by the demanding faculty. In our opinion a new tailor-made structured ePortfolio is needed specifically to replace the manual professional development portfolio system. The proposed system will be the official ePortfolio for the Faculty of Education to be used compulsory by students that are reading a bachelors degree in Education with a secondary track at the University of Malta. Therefore we proposed the full lifecycle development of a new web-based student teachers' ePortfolio which we call STeP. A sample of fifteen selected participants, which include the chairperson of the Professional Development Portfolio, an administrator, tutors and students have taken part in different stages of the software development and played an important role in its success. We show all the stages involved that led to the successful implementation of the proposed tailor-made ePortfolio system. We evaluate our system and present a qualitative outcome for its implementation.

3D Design is not really a new technology; in fact the first ASIC design was designed in 1986. These last years, the interest in 3D is emerging to deal with the problem of the interconnect delay which is overcoming the gates delay in nanometer technologies. 3D ASIC design is facing industrial and academic challenges. We present in this work, the description of a 3D ASIC designs practical work teaching to students applying to the Master degree.

Design of an evaluation system in e-learning Arabic language 阿拉伯语在线学习评价系统的设计

The new form of education called "E-Learning" has grown significantly, especially in training institutions (Universities, Schools, Businesses, etc.). Consequently, they develop their software needs assessment in order to assess the information, and allow the learner to correct his knowledge autonomously. The teaching of languages takes place in the context of distance education and involves several research areas, as automatic processing of natural language and modeling of learning action in distance education environment. Therefore, the development of a remote Evaluation system for Arabic requires the preparation of various linguistic tools such as analyzers In this paper we focus on the development of a Morphological Analyzer In Arabic Language which can be operated in a remote evaluation system of the Arab that support during the seventh year basic level grammar taught in Tunisia. This work proposes to establish morphological analysis by promoting treatments that can be used by a system as the decomposition of a text, determining the properties of a word, the search in a text..., these treatments support learning through an explanation of ambiguous words, the integration strategies of Arabic grammar and solving exercises.

Interactive web-based laboratories in digital electronics 数字电子学交互式网络实验室

Web-based laboratory has become a useful tool in Engineering and Science education. Many educational institutions now days use web-based laboratory technology to conduct laboratory experiments for their students. This paper discusses the implementation of interactive Digital Electronics laboratories designed and implemented at University of Dar es Salaam. Particularly, the implementation of Decoder Encoder experiment using interactive web-based laboratories. The LabView 8.6 is used on the NI ELVIS platform. The use of web-based laboratory came after realizing the difficulties imposed by the traditional laboratories. Web-based laboratories allow students and educators to interact with real laboratory equipment located anywhere in the world at anytime. The Decoder Encoder experiment is one of the four digital experiments designed and deployed using web-based technology at university of Dar es Salaam.

Visual model for managing educational capacity utilization in Egyptian universities 埃及大学教育能力利用管理的可视化模型

Universities throughout the world operate with large amounts of data, typically scattered across multiple, non-centralized information systems and applications. Support of administrative decision-making and knowledge discovery from such decentralized data flows requires a system designed with close eye on the specific needs of the academic and market domains. A model-based approach is needed to plan recruitment efforts and activities, optimally allocate resources, maximize enrollments and meet universities recruitment, etc. Such an approach should be based on appropriate Operations Research or modeling techniques allowing decision makers to meet institutional goals by managing the recruitment and enrolment of students at universities or any educational institution. The admissions process must admit students in such a manner as to achieve an efficient utilization of university resources. This paper introduces visual model of gap analysis and students admissions in an Egyptian universities.

Support of administrative decision-making and knowledge discovery from such decentralized data flows requires a system designed with close eye on the specific needs of the academic and market domains. A model-based approach is needed to plan recruitment efforts and activities, optimally allocate resources, maximize enrollments and meet universities recruitment, etc. Such an approach should be based on appropriate Operations Research or modeling techniques allowing decision makers to meet institutional goals by managing the recruitment and enrolment of students at universities or any educational institution. The admissions process must admit students in such a manner as to achieve an efficient utilization of university resources. Authoring m-learning content: A case study of using power point mobile enabled tools to create content for learning anywhere anytime 创作移动学习内容:使用移动电源工具创建随时随地学习内容的案例研究

This paper present a case study report on the findings of an empirical study conducted at the Central University College (CUC) in Ghana on the use of “OUTSTART” AD-CONNECT mobile learning (m-learning) application for authoring m-learning content. The system use the familiar Microsoft power point with an added features which comes with authoring tools which is simple to use by teachers for creating m-learning content. The main objective of the study is to make m-learning content authoring very easy and simple for the teacher with easy to use tools so as to boost their stake in the use of mobile learning platform (MLP) for teaching and learning anywhere anytime. The result shows that the success of m-learning implementation and acceptance is partly dependent on the user friendliness, simplicity and easy to use applications by teachers. In all 90 lecturers participated in the project. The significance of the study was the development of the “STUMP” model which is meant to be a framework to guide m-learning system developers and implementers.
