This article is based on the discovery of a letter exchange between the Christian teacher Faraḥ Ḥabīb Tābrĭ (فرح حبيب تابري) and theologian and orientalist Gustaf Dalman (1855–1941), which was made by the writer of this article while rummaging in some dusty cardboards left in Dalman’s institute in Greifswald/Germany during my visit there in February 2014.Although totally unknown to modern researchers, Tābri was Dalman’s most fluent and prominent informant. In the introduction to his book Palästinischer Diwan, he thanks him, calling him “my friend from the Gilead Mountains”. He remarks that Tābri helped him considerably in correcting this book and by approaching farmers and Bedouin of the region in order to proof the data of his Dīwān, a collection of folk Palestinian songs.

The first Scripture for Christians was the Old Testament, which, however, they read in the light of Christ. For them, in disagreement with the Jews themselves, the prophecies of the OT regarding the Messiah were realized in Jesus Christ. In this case, Christians read the OT differently than did Jews, who continued to read the OT according to their tradition while refusing to accept Christ as the Messiah. The Qur’ān, however, accepts that Jesus Christ was al-Masīḥ, but rejects the doctrines of the Trinity and of Christ as the incarnate Son of God the Father. This was, in fact, one of the main differences between the two religions. For their part, Christians, although they did not recognize prophecy in Muḥammad, used the Holy Book of Muslims in their different writings, especially as proof-texting for apologetic purposes.

This article interprets the Arabic notes of a Christian who made a primer of Latin grammatical texts—primarily Donatus’ Ars grammatica—in order to shore up his Latin vocabulary. The copyist on the whole offers excellent evidence for Latin learning among Iberia’s Arabic-speaking Christians, who thrived in much of the peninsula between the tenth and thirteenth centuries

El trabajo se propone principalmente analizar la fiabilidad de la Historia de la persecución vándala en África de Víctor de Vita. Para ello se intenta establecer en primer lugar el género literario de la obra, su fecha de composición y su público, y a continuación se estudian las principales noticias que contiene, su veracidad y sus posibles manipulaciones. Finalmente se concluye que, aunque la visión que el autor ofrece sobre el reino vándalo está llena de prejuicios y muy distorsionada, los datos concretos que aporta son por lo general ciertos y merecen ser tenidos en cuenta
