Social injustice is the reason why people protest against the government. The activists seek to find the equality from the government. As the result, some of activists were abducted and killed by the soldiers. The activists are not the group of people who hate the country. Most of them are nationalists, and they cannot keep silent in seeing the injustice in front of their eyes. The family of the activists also play important role in shaping the activists. The connection between the members of family is important in shaping their nationalism. Laut Bercerita is a novel which talks about nationalism and familyhood in Indonesia. Using this novel as the primary data, the issue of nationalism and familyhood as the characteristics of South East Asian people are discussed in this paper. Keywords: Laut Bercerita, Nationalism in new order, familyhood, social injustice

As one of the Four Great Classic Novels of Chinese literature, Romance of the Three Kingdoms found its way to the constellation of World Literature via translation and being adapted into the movie Red Cliff (2008) and famous video games series Dynasty Warriors (1997-now). This process further made the story of the Three Kingdom is widely known as many cinemagoers and gamers can associate themselves with the story in the form that they adore. Both processes, however, have disadvantages as they erase the Chinese cultural elements that are demonstrated in the novel. This novel is also heavily riddled with patriarchal paradigm that makes scholars consider Romance of the Three Kingdoms masculine novel by portraying women in a very weak position in Chinese society. This paper would try to dissect the issues of translation and women portrayal in detail by analyzing the translated work of Romance of the Three Kingdoms to see what cultural aspect that is disappear as a result of translation and dissecting the dismissive and derogative portrayal of several women characters in the novel. Keywords: Luo Guanzhong, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Feminism, World Literature

There has been a change in the realm of education these days. Started with teachers as the center of learning back then, becoming students as the main key to learning, and this has led to an independent learning environment. Technology has been taking an important role in this change happening in society, with no exception in language education as well. Moreover, it is the fact that in the English language, students are required to master four skills, namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There have been many ways of teaching those four skills to students, but unfortunately, often those strategies do not meet students needs. Technology development, therefore, comes to provide new solutions to these issues that both teachers and students could grab the benefits of it. Thereupon in this paper, the authors try to provide insights as comprehensive as possible regarding technology development, which is the webpage, which can be used by teachers to assist the English teaching, especially in the sense of teaching reading and listening skills to students. Keywords: webpage, CALL, English teaching, reading skills, listening skills

ABSTRACTTechnology appears as one of the significant tools to create a meaningful process in all fields of life for living things, one of which is education. This situation drives related parties to create game-based learning platform for education. One of the emerging game-based learning platform used in education is Kahoot!. Educationally relevant game, such as Kahoot! makes students learn academic content with a lot of excitement. Recently, Kahoot! is used as a tool for formative assessment. Formative assessment is useful to improve students attainment. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Kahoot! used as formative assessment in education. This paper will elaborate the theoretical review as well as the application that underlay the hypothesis. The result of the study shows that Kahoot! is an alternative tool of interactive formative assessment. Kahoot! is feasible and practical to make learning fun and enjoyable because it has many benefits for education.

This research aims to develop Learning Moduls that support a learning model designed to integrate the theory and the implementation in which relevance and meaningfulness of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course can be achieved. Therefore, the problem of this research is: What kind of learning module book of English for Specific Purposes course to realize relevance and meaningfulness? This research used Research and Development method that aims to develop and validate products in education. Steps of development method that will be used include (1) collecting pre-development data, (2) designing the product prototype, (3) verifying the product to experts who are competent at the product, (4) revising the product into the product prototype 2, (5) applying the product for obtaining qualitative evaluation, and (6) revising the product into the final product that has been validated after having steps of expert verification and implementation. The research data were qualitative and quantitative data that had been verified by experts and evaluated by students in terms of how the product designed can realize relevance and meaningfulness of the integration between theories and real implementation. The development research result is in accordance with the objective in which the result is an ESP learning module book for students of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University.

The process of teaching and learning in the 21st century is complex. Todays students, who are millennials, may consider the traditional face-to-face classroom setting to be boring and not really motivating anymore. Teachers are required to attend to each students needs and are expected to keep up with what is relevant to todays learning. With the advancement of technology, blended-learning is expected to be one of the solutions. It is when technology is integrated with the teaching and learning process. Hence, this paper discusses how an educational network platform, Edmodo, can be used and is helpful for the blended-learning classroom, as well as the advantages teachers and students can get from using it in teaching reading.

This study investigates the discrimination against three Afro-American women in Hidden Figures. Critical Discourse Analysis proposed by Fairclough (2012) was used in this study to deconstruct the discrimination and provide solutions to tackle the problem. The CDA was supported by the analysis on language through Systemic Functional Grammar by Halliday (2004) and the analysis on body language by Jger and Maier (2009). The result shows that the discrimination in the movie can be differentiated into discrimination based on the level and the cause. The discrimination based on the level includes the individual, institutional and structural discrimination. Based on the cause, discrimination based on race (racism) and discrimination based on gender (sexism) are illustrated in the movie. The racism is developed from racist ideology, while the sexism is caused by sexist ideology. Finally, the ideologies are represented through language and body language. Keywords: Afro-American Women, Discrimination, Critical Discourse Analysis, Systemic Functional Grammar

Linguistics as a present study, acts as an instrument towards promoting local languages. This recent study aims at studying some of phonological processes in Chagga language (Particularly Kibosho and Marangu varieties). Chagga is a Bantu language family spoken by Chagga people of Tanzania, south of Mount Kilimanjaro. Borrowing is the act of taking a word or a phrase from one language and used it in another language. The present study is carried out under Generative CV Phonology Theory, developed by linguists, Keyser and Clements in (1983). This theory strives to guide the present study on scrutinize phonological processes with their rules in Kibosho and Marangu varieties. The very study is the phonological type of study which employs qualitative method. The study employs Interview to observe the pronunciation by native speakers, voice note as linguistic variable need for homogenous resemblance of the uttered lexical items and the phonological processes. To answer study question one the study observes there are three major causes of phonological processes in Chagga as in English with very little variations namely: Phonological processes motivated by syllable structure rules [vowel insertion/ epenthesis], Phonological processes in Chagga language affecting syllable [consonant deletion] and Phonological processes motivated by phonemic reasons [cluster tolerance, feature change]. In adhering problem two the study has found similar phonological processes between English and Chagga with very little differences especially on phonemes which undergo the changes hence advocates for further analyses in local African and Asian languages to pursue a similar study or any nearly phonological study in order to preserve and promote local linguistics contents from ones native language. Keywords: Phonological processes, Nativazation, Phonological rules, Chagga languageI

This study compares the features of poetry works of Victor Hugo from the Romantic Movement to those of Alfred Lord Tennyson from the Victorian Age of literature who lived in cutting age of the two periods of literature. These two ages experienced great expansion of industrial and agricultural revolutions, expansion of British as a super power nation with many colonies and the French revolution which to a great extent influenced the writings of these authors. Romanticism style of portraying themes of imagination, natural beauty and individual emotions over reasoning and sense of intellect influenced the poets of the age of Victorian literature though they still addressed the problems of the Victorian age. Both poets composed short and long poems, used description and sentimental styles, used nature metaphorically to create imagery and describe the emotions of appreciating beauty of the nature and reflecting peoples struggle in different situations of life.Key words: Literature of the Romantic period, literature of the Victorian Age, Victor Hugo,Alfred Tennyson.

Flannery OConnors A Good Man is Hard to Find (1953) criticizes the experience of humans isolation, vanity, and disillusionment in Southern America under political instability, dictatorial regime, hypocrisy of the church and high number of poverty that can lead to the crisis of faith and humanity in peoples life. By presenting the violence, horror, and emotional freak in the story, OConnor wishes that the characters can come to their self-realization upon their faith and humanity. This paper finds out that the portrayal of grotesque character in A Good Man is Hard to Find can be seen as a mechanism to purify the Southern American society in the twentieth century that has already been far away from their religious belief. Keywords: Grotesque, Purification, Southern America, Flannery OConnor
