It is well known the important role played by Muslim religious brotherhoods in the history of Morocco. Founded at the end of the eighteenth century, the Darq?wiyya, one of these brotherhoods, grew rapidly in extent and influence throughout the territory during a period of major changes in the socio-political life of the country. Morocco would soon feel the increasing interference of European colonialism, culminating with the establishment of the French and Spanish Protectorates in 1912. During this period and until the so-called “pacification” of the Spanish zone of influence in 1927, several revolts took place against the established powers that forced Moroccans and Europeans to take positions in the light of the events. The best known were the Jbalan leader Raisuni and the Riffian Abdelkrim al-Jattabi. Both rebel leaders switched from collaboration to resistance against Spanish colonial authorities. This article explains what were the positions and relations between the colonial authorities, the leaders of the Darq?wiyya brotherhood and these two rebel heads.

This paper aims to explain the present knowledge about stroke burnished pottery and Carambolo ware pottery, both traditionally considered fossil directors of Tartessian Late Bronze Age. To do so, we will study both pottery typologies, paying special attention to their origins and their influence, as well as their geographical spread, their contexts and their sociocultural significance. Our final objective will be to define the main area of Tartessos, during Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, through its own pottery types.

The present paper studies the social and political consequences triggered by the cult of the Syrian sun god El Gabal in the city of Rome, by the Emperor Elagabalus (218-222). The deity’s location on the cusp of the religious pantheon, as well as the rest of religious innovations undertaken, were highly controversial issues and are pointed out as one of the causes of the replacement of the emperor by his cousin, Alexander Severus. The following pages offer an approach to the religious reality of that moment, as well as an analysis of the response to these measure of different sectors of the society, with the intention of clarifying the impact that could cause among the Roman people.

Taking the city of Alicante as an object of study, we will make an approach to the fight against the adulteration of wine from the end of the Ancient Regime until the consolidation of the liberal regime. During the Modern Era and first decades of the nineteenth century, the efforts, along with protectionist policies, were aimed to prevent the entrance of the wine “adulterated” with blends of other wines coming from outside of the boundaries of Alicante. Once that free trade was decreed, in a production and trade growth background, adulteration was an object of double interest. One of them was to track the presence of adulteration products in exported wines in order to avoid the discredit that it entailed in the international market. Another matter of concern for the local hygienists was related to possible harmful effects of diverse substances in Alicante’s population.

In 1948 the majority of professional footballers of the Argentinian First Division went to a strike against their respective teams and against the federation. Their goal was to get new salary conditions, a major contractual flexibility and, in general, to reach the same social conquests that the Argentinian workers got during those years. This work tries to analyse the relationship between professional sport and work through the Peronist press.

This article analyzes in a panoramic way the treatment of the Franco dictatorship in the Spanish school textbooks of primary, secondary and high school education of the last twenty years. It is based on the following premise: the educational treatment of a conflictive and “hot” past like that of the Franco regime must be of special concern to the community of researchers and teachers of History, insofar as it has profound potential repercussions on the construction of the socio-political identities of the new generations. In this sense, the article, although it does not deny the advances produced, focuses its attention on the methodological, epistemological and interpretative deficiencies that can be seen in the textbooks published under the educational laws LOGSE, LOE and LOMCE.

The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between municipal jurisdiction and royal power in the kingdom of Valencia proposed by the jurist Francisco Jeronimo de Leon at the beginning of the 17th century. We analyze the different ways of regal intervention, concerning mechanisms of configuration of the ruling groups as well as the control of municipal tax authorities in some spheres of municipal power that the magistrate justified in his legal work.

The impact on the society of the 1929 global crisis put the “social question” in a privileged place within the official government agenda in Argentina. The State put into operation, throughout the national territory, administrative structures to intervene in areas such as education, health and housing. The tendency to approach the social policy studies from perspectives of macro level or dealing exclusively with the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, as the case of Argentina, finds a counterpoint in works, which focus attention on local areas, showing the diversity of scenarios and realities to consider. It should be noted the weaving of factors that affect the state actors’ willingness to socially deploy intervention policies and their ability to impact the layers of population to which they are addressed. For all this, we propose an approach to the living conditions of those popular sectors that inhabited the city of Jujuy in those critical years and that, for various reasons, remained outside the social integration mechanisms implemented.
