The study was conducted to determine specific differences in food preferences and satisfaction with diet between elderly people leading independent lives and those living in Social Welfare Homes. The studied group included 100 people. The participants were shown photographs of 22 types of dishes. They fulfilled the questionnaire about frequency and pleasure delivered from eating those dishes. Studies have shown that food preferences and satisfaction with diet among people over the age of 60 are highly dependent on their place of residence. Supervision and frequent inspections are needed to regulate nutrition in Social Welfare Homes in Poland.

The school plays an important role in preparation of persons with mild intellectual disability to adult's life. A person who starts his/ her independent life, usually experiences a shift in three general roles at work, in recreational activity and in socialization. An in-depth interview was conducted among persons with mild intellectual disability at the age of 18-33 in Lithuania and Italy in 2012-2013, in order to reveal the structure of takeover of life roles and the significance to success related to the participation in labour market. The successful structure of takeover of life roles among persons with mild intellectual disability along with the prerequisites for its formation and the significance to occupational integration are analysed in the current article. The article emphasizes the importance of prevocational education in formation of skills with regard to takeover of life roles.

In previous research, the Finnish version of the Behavioral and Emotional Rating Scale-2 has demonstrated adequate internal consistency, factor structure and convergent validity. The purpose of the present study was to examine the long-term test-retest reliability of the Finnish BERS-2. Youth, parent and teacher BERS-2 ratings were collected once a year for three years in order to assess the stability of scores. All of the correlations were significant and moderate to very large in magnitude. Study limitations, future research and implications were discussed.

The article discusses psychological principles of integrated organization of a self-improvement phenomenon. It was determined that self-improvement as a self-determined phenomenon is conditioned and mediated by a set of interconnected personal characteristics, including the value of self-development, integrity of life course perception, self-acceptance and so on. The article reveals structural characteristics of self-improvement as a self-determined system, the basic parameters of which include the value of self-improvement, self-efficacy and personal autonomy. Expediency was justified of an integrated study of objective laws of a self-improvement process through personal and value-semantic mediation. An important factor of self-improvement is a need for self-fulfilment that actualizes person’s potential abilities, supports internal state of tension, is the source of activity and self-activity, has a social character (social status achieving), can be formed purposefully during mastering of any activity.

Education of people with disabilities as the object of administrative and legal regulation of public policy in Ukraine is analyzed in the article. It is stated that the society has passed a difficult path in its attitude to the people with disabilities - from aggressive rejection to realization of the need for their integration into the community. In the present conditions, the urgency of developing and implementing measures for professional training of all able-bodied and disabled people who want to work with the aim of integration them into society is proved.

Adolescents who have low level of social connectedness more often distinguish themselves by nonadaptive, inappropriate behaviour. This study aims to disclose changes in connectedness due to application of play therapy in the senior adolescents’ group. Research results disclosed that application of play therapy method “Game of Life”, grounded on psychodrama principles, adjusted the feeling of social connectedness among senior adolescents: changes were observed in connectedness to self, at the social level and to the close friend. Application of play therapy resulted in more significant changes in social connectedness in the girls’ group than in the boys’ group. Social connectedness did not change comparing fifteen — eighteen-year-old adolescent’s groups.

Although there has been growing awareness regarding the importance of health literacy on the social, emotional, and health related outcomes of adults, little is known about the preparedness of high school adolescents to access, navigate, and use health related information and services as they begin to enter into independence. This study evaluates the health literacy skills of 199 youth enrolled in high school health classes in a Midwestern region in the United States. Results revealed that nearly one out of three youth demonstrated some level of risk on applied measures of health literacy, and approximately half were unaware of how to access health insurance, regularly thought about what they eat and how it influences their health, knew how to make medical and dental appointments, and were aware of their family medical history. Implications, study limitations, and recommendations for practice and future research are discussed.

Profound deficit in social reciprocity skills is the core, underlying feature of the autism spectrum disorders (ASD). It is not doubted that social skills condition the quality of person’s social functioning and management of social situations and has enormous impact on individual’s personal and social life. Thus, social skills are behaviors that must be taught, learned, however, in planning the development of social skills at first it is important to identify individual powers of a child with autism spectrum disorder and problematic fields in the system child-family-school. In the present research the expression of social skills of a child with autism spectrum disorder is revealed through the following structural components: 1) interaction skills; 2) communication skills 3) participation skills 4) emotional skills 5) social cognition skills with the method of case analysis, combining content analysis of interview and observation data.
