The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of psychological, social, and physical factors, such as health status, family relationships, living arrangements, economic status, and personality traits, on the expectation of Japanese seniors to receive nursing care. To collect data on these factors, a questionnaire survey was conducted with Japanese men and women who were not in the care home in March 2021. At that time, we also examined the change in the mental state before and after the spread of COVID-19. Based on the results of the survey, the subjects were divided into two groups, those who preferred to be cared for at home and those who preferred to be cared for outside the home, and the responses were compared. As a result of the comparison, there was a significant difference between these two groups only in the responses regarding exercise habits before and after COVID-19. In both the before and after COVID-19, the frequency of sports/exercise per week was higher for those who wanted to be cared for at home. This suggests that the physical factor of the exercise habit influences the expected to care for the elderly at home. However, there was no significant difference in the responses between the two groups regarding other factors. In this study, factors such as health status, family relationships, and financial situation were considered in attitudes towards caregiving. Still, since no significant differences were found, it is necessary to conduct a survey that considers other factors.

In this paper, we describe SMILEGLASS, augmented reality (AR) based glasses that deform facial expressions into smiles. In recent years, many people suffer from psychological stress. Psychologists have reported that smiling can improve mental health and make people who see a smiling person feel happy. Therefore, we expect that if people around SMILEGLASS users appear to be smiling, the users will feel happy and communicate effectively. To investigate the usefulness of SMILEGLASS, we conducted a user study where participants responded to question-and-answer tasks via video chat. The results of the experiment suggest that SMILEGLASS may improve positive emotions.

With the development of the Internet and the spread of smart devices, almost all generations nowadays are using smartphones and tablet PC on daily basis. Under these circumstances, each country is promoting the introduction of programming education for early age children, and software called a visual programming language that can be programmed using pictures and diagrams is being developed. This paper had proposed a method for measuring the educational effect when such visual programming was practiced for preschoolers. We had made evaluation data by observing children's programming practice, and we will discuss and evaluate the proposed method and how to utilize the acquired data.

Pictorial symbols are used in many places because they can be intuitive and easy-to-understand means of communication. Therefore, there are various basic research and applications. As a basic rule, the pictorial symbols preparation principle was established for supporting communication, and there is a standard JIS T 0103: 2005. However, there are issues when developing pictorial symbols suitable for specific facilities. For example, it is necessary to consider the selection of content, viewing angle, intuitive understanding, update and continuity, and so on. This paper proposes a method for defining specific content and what to select as a target in the process of pictogram creation. In this study, we implemented the proposed procedure for educational facility. We evaluated the selection of targeted content assuming the creation of pictograms of target equipment with characteristics such as whether it is for a specific purpose and whether it has a large capacity. Most of the content was valid, but it was suggested that each content category was affected by the type of content and the equipment of the relevant facility. This research will impact the pictogram production in countries around the world that is becoming more internationalized.

This paper describes the design of a system to develop the feint skill of basketball players in one-on-one situations. When training alone for one-on-one situations, the player lacks an opponent; therefore such training lacks a realistic aspect. The proposed system uses a software to provide a single trainee with an appropriate opponent. To train an offence player, the system monitors and analyzes the body movements of an offensive player, providing a counterpart movement with the silhouette of a visualized defense, whose functions are based on the analysis of the monitored offense movement. To train a defense, the system is modified to provide a realistic offence using a head mount display worn by a defense trainee. Defense trainee receives feedback after the training.

Today, the concept of “satoyama” is considered more importantly not only in the context of environmental conservation, but also in a wide variety of issues with which local municipalities are required to deal inclusively. Base on the result of a questionnaire survey, this paper clarifies the actual status of local municipalities dealing with satoyama, and the necessity of introducing program management which enables cross-sectoral endeavors and collaborations, in order to ensure the local sustainability.

In this paper, we propose a new form of itemset, i.e., a generalized itemset consisting of both positive and negative items. The generalized itemset has more expressive power and can extend the association rules. We firstly study some basic properties of a closed generalized itemset, such as the closure. Next, we propose three sorts of algorithms enumerating all closed generalized itemsets. Finally, we show some preliminary results for comparing the performances of these enumeration methods through experiments.

In this research, we used the location data (GPS data) of mobile phones to measure changes in the number of people in major manufacturers' autos plants, and based on the data gleaned attempt to monitor the auto production volumes in Japan. As a result, we have come up with approximate estimates that, as well as maintaining a high level of timeliness, were broadly consistent with major automakers' production volumes and Indices of Industrial Production data for motor vehicles. In addition, we proposed a stock investment strategy based on data for the estimated production volumes for each car company and confirmed stable return of the strategy. This result showed that the estimated production volume based on the GPS data is effective information for the stock investment decisions.

When conducting software process improvement activities, it is important for each organization to build a system for promoting company-wide process improvement activities, spread this system to each division, and ensure that improvement activities are continued and developed. However, the following issues are often reported when implementing software process improvement activities: the fact that it is complicated to determine how to build a promotion system and the fact that it is difficult to utilize improvement promotion activity cases in line with the organization's environment. To help resolve these issues, this research proposes a process-improvement-case search method that uses process improvement promotional factors, which help lead to success when conducting process improvement activities.

Completing a bachelor's degree is not only the primary goal for students, but universally, also a crucial indicator of student achievement at each institution. The objective of this study focused on the correlation between precollege preparation and college graduation. This study aimed to explore the factors that impacted students' graduation at a research university. The outcome of logistic regression identified six factors that impacted students' graduation. Two of the six factors, the difficulty level of the first math courses taken and whether students had to retake introductory STEM courses, were related to precollege preparation, and therefore, directly corresponded with students' academic performance during the high school years.
