The study aimed to design an augmented reality-based educational board game with the dual-scaffolding framework integrated peer-scaffolding and cognitive-scaffolding. The teaching objectives is to guide students to learn and understand the history of their hometown. To evaluate the game, a total of 29 senior school students were recruited to participate in the current research. The results shown that students' learning performance has been significantly improved, and students all have a high degree of flow state and technology acceptance.

In this paper, we propose an approach and its frame-work of our adaptive traffic control system using reinforcement learning. The proposed approach attempts to determine the best traffic light strategy from reducing pollution to reducing waiting times, managing emergency ambulances, dynamic speed managing and optimizing traffic jams. In the proposed work, a reasonable process for managing agents is utilized. By utilizing SUMO features we prepare a real-world scenario with different types of vehicles, bus stops, traffic lights, by utilizing map data from OpenStreetMap. Simulations using SUMO are implemented for higher traffic efficiency and fairness compared with the manual phase-fixed and adaptive traffic light. In this way an emergency vehicle (Ambulance, Fire service car and Police) can be gracefully handled by the traffic light system without human interaction.

Older people living at home have been reluctant to go out because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Concern has arisen that older people might feel isolated and that their cognitive function might decline. For this study, we used the “LOVOT” family robot in homes of older people to elucidate factors related to isolation reduction and cognitive function maintenance and improvement.

Fueled by increased availability of the Internet and digital technologies, online education is going through rapid evolution. Many educational organizations have adopted online mode of operation, and dedicated e-learning platforms have emerged - making education available to a huge number of learners and encouraging lifelong learning. Taking advantage of the convenience of self-regulated anytime-anywhere education, millions of users enroll in online courses, but unfortunately only about a tenth of them complete these courses. One of the main reasons for this high dropout rate has been pointed out to be learners' incapability to retain motivation, or - putting it the other way round - lack of strategy by content providers to retain leaners' motivation. Recently, gamification has been increasingly used in educational contents in order to retain learners' motivation throughout the duration of the course. In the same vein of such research, in this paper, we present Quiz and Treasures, a web-based learning platform which incorporates various game elements. We also conducted a user study, result of which shows our application influenced positively in retaining learners' motivation, with majority of them rating their experience as enjoying, and expressing intention to continue using the application. In addition, Quiz and Treasures allows instructors and administrators to register quizzes in advance and analyze results, enabling them to visually capture learners' level of progress.

Radical innovation in fashion design has high and significant impact on maintaining product value. However, radical innovation involves technological and market uncertainties. In order to avoid the uncertainty, we set the product categories of fashion. After considering the historical background, we analyzed which factors have high influence on the maintenance of product value. The analysis target of this study was set as “Jean Jacket.”. We collected data of auction results and fashion elements of thrifted clothes from an internet auction platform, Aucfan. A significant positive effect on product value maintenance was confirmed for some of the silhouette search elements and the reprint search elements. Previous studies have suggested that the fashion design elements set as hypotheses contribute to product value. Yet, in terms of value maintenance, it became clear that it was not a theoretical interpretation that was valid for all.

Our target issue in this study is to discover notable academic people in higher education by assessment of research and educational impacts. While open data that can be applied to such an analysis is available, conventional retrieval methods have shortcomings in the search because of the characteristics of the target data. To tackle this problem, we contrive a new method for discerning notable academic people who transcend other people. Our proposed method is a hybrid method of conventional methods and exerts the advantages of the conventional methods. It is particularly important to identify excellent people who have huge impacts in scientific research and university education when promoting meaningful activities in higher education, such as open science and faculty development. In the experiments in this study, numerical attributes contained in the KAKEN and CiNii Books databases are used to quantify the impact on scientific research and university education. By observing the experimental results, we have confirmed that the proposed method succeeds in overcoming the deficiencies of the conventional retrieval methods.

This presents the mechanical design of Rotary-type Double Inverted Pendulum(RDIP), which broadly have been applied in control engineering. However, there exists dynamic modeling error in studies of RDIPs that apply a single scalar of moment of inertia for mechanical links instead of using full inertia tensor. To investigate the effect of such incomplete dynamic modeling, the dynamic model of RDIP is completely derived with full inertia tensor by using Euler-Lagrange approach and optimally identified for model parameters, then the simulated result of the model is compared to the incomplete dynamic modeling and experimental data.

Most Japanese universities work under intense pressure to maintain or improve their ratings. Therefore, reputation management is very important for them to drive admissions and to increase their brand awareness among the public. Reputation in this case refers to how universities are perceived by each stakeholder. University ranking is an essential tool for reputation management, but how it is used, is unclear. We conducted a questionnaire survey to clarify the concept, and found differences in the activities related to coping with university ranking, their contents, and the issues among universities. In this paper, we present and explain the results of the questionnaire survey.

A topic model was used to analyze what kind of learning was experienced by many first-year students who took a career development class. This study targeted a class offered as a compulsory subject at a regional university in Japan. For the analysis, we used free descriptions from 2,652 students who took classes from 2011 to 2019. The percentage of topics included in the free descriptions was calculated, and the yearly changes in each topic were examined. The results showed that the percentage of topics such as “self-image clarification and communication skills,” “diverse experiences,” and “self-efficacy” changed insignificantly, indicating that these topics were robust in learning.

Nowadays stress is an important problem of a society that is often the main reason for different diseases. For people, it is important to regularly monitor their health. However, it is not very convenient to go to medical centers or carry a lot of equipment every time. It is necessary to implement a means for monitoring health with the help of devices that we use in everyday life. Also, such devices must be able to analyze the human condition to exclude erroneous results and, as a result, erroneous influences. The paper considers modern approaches related to the human body state detection during various physical and mental activities. We describe the developed mobile application for collecting data on a person's state using connected wearable electronics. We identify physical and mental patterns of a person's state depending on various activities. We presented a classification model based on a random forest algorithm that can detect the patterns based on accelerometer data as well as heart rate measured by wearable electronics. We compared the results of classification accuracy using the random forest algorithm with other models based on logistic regression and AdaBoost.
