The paper is focused on  a corpus of hymnographic texts dedicated to nun Stefanida/Stevka as an example of a literary work focused on the promotion of a newly revealed saint by the Serbian Orthodox Church, whose role is to elevate the spiritual essence of a society that underwent secularization during the socialist era, while revisiting the core principles of this society’s ideological resilience. By using means of expression, such as modern language (vernacular), fragments of Stevka’s letters, and Serbian cultural and religious topoi, the authors of the hymnographic texts made them more accessible to the contemporary believer. Additionally, the hymnographic texts symbolically represent the spiritual landscape of both past and contemporary Serbia, adding to a more comprehensive narrative about the historical cohesion of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The article reflects on the significant growth of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research in the work of Italian Slavists over the last twenty years. More specifically, it discusses the fruitful contributions made to diverse strands of SLA research, including the acquisition of the verb system, pragmatics, phonetics, the role of input in the initial stages of L2 development, and the language teaching applications of corpus linguistics. The review stresses the relevance of these studies for the international SLA debate, emphasizing how research on Slavic languages often resulted in the fine-tuning of theoretical frameworks originally conceived to accommodate data from other languages (especially English). Additionally, it points out that most of the SLA research summarised here is explicitly designed in view of a language teaching objective (a synergy often advocated in the SLA field, but seldom realised) and thus has direct implications for the teaching of Slavic languages as L2s.

This paper analyzes twelve poems by Federico García Lorca that Marina Cvetaeva received from the Russian Hispanist F. Kel’in and translated in 1941. Out of them, five poems were translated into Russian, five into French (these texts were identified and republished only in 2020), and two poems remained untranslated. In this paper, we analyse Cvetaeva’s translation process as a reception of texts and compare poetic images from García Lorca’s original poems with Marina Cvetaeva’s images in translations and her work. It is a well-known fact that Cvetaeva wrote to Kel’in saying she liked Lorca and that the poems were well chosen for her. This statement became the starting point of the work. We demonstrate the typological proximity and similarities of imagery between García Lorca’s poems and Cvetaeva’s work and trace possible echoes of Cvetaeva’s poetry in translations from the Spanish poet. In searching for translation solutions, Cvetaeva activates her vocabulary, as well as metrical, rhetorical, and compositional techniques, and introduces allusions to the works of other Russian authors into the texts.

This paper adopts a historical-critical approach to highlight the main trends and lines of development in Russian studies in Italy dedicated to the teaching of Russian as a foreign language (RFL) at universities. The research’s strengths, gaps, and challenges are emphasized to reveal new perspectives on language education. Specifically, we focus on the last decade (2013–2023) and the following areas: teaching of grammar and vocabulary and didactics of literature and culture. The examination of RFL research devoted to the Italian university context uncovered some specific insights. If we count the numerous studies dedicated to the teaching of grammar and vocabulary versus the didactics of literature and culture, the latter area has seen less success among Italian Russianists. Overall, the transversal and interdisciplinary character of many works and the variety of theoretical-methodological approaches employed can be considered the greatest strengths of the studies reviewed. However, more critical and non-essentialist positions should be explored in future research. Additionally, the field needs to pay greater attention to concrete teaching practices.

The Slavonic Alphabetical Hymn in Medieval Russian Horologia of the 13th–14th Centuries 13-14 世纪中世纪俄罗斯钟表中的斯拉夫字母赞美诗

Tatiana Afanasyeva
The article is devoted to a Slavonic alphabetical hymn found in the earliest Slavonic Horologia and preserved in two sources: the well-known Yaroslavl Horologion of the 13th century and the recently discovered liturgical book for cell prayer Sof. 1129 from the 14th century. In the latter source the alphabetical hymn contains two verses starting with the letter Ш, a feature that it shares also with the Alphabetical Prayer of Constantine of Preslav and with the oldest Slavonic alphabetical hymnography, recently identified by G. Popov, found in the Festal Menaion. The question of the evidence of the Glagolitic alphabet found in Cyrillic acrostics is once again discussed in the article, and the opinion of V. Mošin that the Glagolitic acrostics are closely related to the alphabets that figure in On the Letters by Chernorizets Hrabar and in the Munich Abecedarium is confirmed. The subsequent fate in Medieval Rus of the alphabetical hymn from the Horologion is then traced. The hymn, in a significantly reworked form, is widely found in manuscripts starting with the end of the 15th century as a prayer titled “Alphabetical [prayer] of repentance”. At the end of the article, an attempt is made to show the main differences between acrostics based on the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets.

Slavia as a Comparative Model. Reflections on a Recent History of Slavic Literatures 作为比较模式的斯拉夫。对斯拉夫文学近代史的思考

The present essay aims to assess the very possibility of tracing a comparative history of Slavic cultures, by highlighting those elements that are potentially common to all these literary traditions. Starting from the examination of Marcello Garzaniti’s recent monograph Storia delle letterature slave. Libri, scrittori e idee dall’Adriatico alla Siberia (secoli ix-xxi) [History of Slavic Literatures: Books, Writers, and Ideas from the Adriatic to Siberia (9th-21st Centuries), Rome 2023], the author evaluates two possible comparative perspectives: constructing a binary structure between two phenomena or groups of phenomena (for example, Slavia Orthodoxa and Slavia Latina), or interpreting the plurality of a class of phenomena in light of some central unifying element, around which the entire series can be arranged. Both these strategies have proved unsatisfactory, as the space of Slavic cultures is an evolutionary system in dynamic equilibrium, not a fixed totality of materials. Thus, it might be appropriate to abandon the very idea of an integral model referring to what is an inevitably open and infinitely plural class of phenomena.

A change has been observed in the pronunciation of sonorants in Polish in positions where their occurrence does not conform with the sonority principle. It has been decided to take a closer look at this process and begin research on this phenomenon. First, we plan to examine the pronunciation of sonorants in word-final positions after an obstruent, next we will examine them in the position between two obstruents, and finally in the word-initial position before an obstruent. So far, a short pilot study has been published (Sawicka, Zinowjewa 2020), and the pronunciation of /w/ has been examined in sentences read by a selected speaker (Sawicka, Zinowjewa 2023). The present study discusses the pronunciation of r in sentences read by the same speaker. The project will also include an examination of the same material read by a greater number of “average” speakers of Polish, and an examination of continuous material – longer texts, read and spoken.
