Personality Traits of Muslim Teachers: A Brief Overview 穆斯林教师的人格特征:概述

Teachers are an essential asset in an educational institution. The attitude and behavior of Muslim teachers that do not reflect good Muslim personality will be an obstacle to the smooth process of teaching and learning. Therefore, this concept paper discusses the personality traits that every Muslim teacher should have to excel as an educator. Qualitative research methods through content analysis research design were used. Data collected from materials such as books, journal articles, proceedings, theses and dissertations were analyzed descriptively. This study touches on personality traits that have been documented by Islamic scholars. Although an in-depth study has not yet been conducted, the results of previous writings have found that the personality traits of effective Muslim teachers can still be observed. The personality traits of Muslim teachers from the point of view of Islamic scholars such as Imam Al-Ghazali, Imam Al-Nawawi, Imam Al-Ajurri, Imam Al-Mawardi and Imam Hasan Al-Banna can be summarized into four main elements: knowledgeable and applying it; good character; possess teaching skills and dedicated to the community. In particular, every Muslim teacher and educational institution should be concerned about personality traits and take appropriate action so that the quality of teachers in Malaysia can be improved.

Happiness from the viewpoint of Ibn Kathīr (1300-1374): Some notes by a Middle Eastern Muslim Scholar 伊本·凯瑟尔(1300-1374)视角下的幸福:一位中东穆斯林学者的笔记

In early philosophically oriented societies, happiness was a prominent theme in literature. This article discusses the concept of happiness according to Ibn Kathīr (d. 1374), who was an eminent scholar of Islam. The idea of happiness and how to achieve it is something that has occupied researchers for millennia. They consider happiness to be temporal, conditional and existing outside the human body. According to this view, there is no lasting happiness in the human soul. In contrast, Ibn Kathīr referred to happiness as having a heart filled with faith and behaving in a way that follows religious teachings. By applying qualitative methods, the study found that Ibn Kathīr discusses happiness from the perspective of temporary worldly wealth, for the decline of belief in revelation, and eternal happiness in the hereafter. This paper concludes that the key to being happy in this world and the next is seeking the pleasure of God, and worshipping only Him.

Development of Decision-Making Framework for Food Premises Based on Wara’ Parameter towards Syubhah Assesment 面向Syubhah评价的Wara参数食品经营场所决策框架开发

The selection of food premises is an important practice that requires attention of Muslims. The emerging new trend of dietary culture has become one of the challenges for contemporary Muslims in ensuring halalan tayyiban aspect. Therefore, the selection criteria of food premises is crucial for Muslims, and this can be done through a concept known as wara’ (abstinence). This study is carried out to highlight the wara’ aspect within the selection criteria as well as in the decision-making process. This is because wara’ plays an important role when dealing with doubtful elements (syubhah). This research wholly utilized library research to obtain data and data was analysed qualitatively by using content analysis method. Based on findings, there are several forms of syubhah that can affect the halalan tayyiban status. Therefore, this study proposes a decision-making framework based on wara’ and syubhah.

Studying the field of psychology in combination with religion has become a significant trend. Traditionally, Muslim philosophers, theologians, and mystics had been studying Psychology from an Islamic perspective under the label of ‘al-ilm-un-nafs’ i.e. knowledge of the soul. Their understanding of ‘nafs’ is mostly related to ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’. Recent Muslim scholars have re-invented the same wheel and have tried to merely promote the prominent Muslim philosophers instead of converting their work into modern understandings. Sticking with the translation of ‘nafs’ as soul or spirit has made several verses of Quran difficult to understand in modern psychological perspective. Since the subjects of psyche and intellect are within the domain of psychology in our times, this current study analyzed the content, context, and the psychological themes of the Quranic terms ‘nafs’, ‘rooh’, ‘aql’, ‘qalb’, and ‘foaad’ in 420 verses. This study established that the term ‘nafs’ in Quran is mostly used for ‘psyche’ i.e. mind and self. The terms ‘qalb’, ‘aql’, and ‘foaad’ are all used to relate to‘intelligence’. The current study is highly significant in its scope as none of the earlier or later Muslim scholars translated the word ‘nafs’ as ‘mind’, which is the best suited alternative in our times and can allow Muslims to understand Quran in a more convenient and updated way.

Etika Kerja Wanita Dalam Mendepani Cabaran Di Era Pandemik: Adaptasi Kisah Dua Orang Gadis Madyan 应对疫情时代挑战的女性伦理:两个Madyan女孩的故事·全球之声的调整

Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) telah menular dan diisytiharkan sebagai pandemik pada awal suku pertama tahun 2020. Impak daripada jangkitan yang pantas menyebabkan pihak kerajaan Malaysia mengenakan Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan (PKP) di seluruh negara ini. Setelah setahun berlalu, kondisi mutakhir meninggalkan impak negatif kepada rakyat khususnya melibatkan sektor ekonomi, sehingga ada yang kehilangan mata pencarian. Keadaan ini mendorong segelintir kaum wanita untuk membantu dalam mencari rezeki bagi meringankan bebanan keluarga. Selain itu, masalah gangguan seksual, depresi, bebanan kerja melampau, masalah penjagaan anak semakin serius dalam kalangan pekerja wanita ekoran budaya kerja norma baharu. Persoalannya, apakah solusi yang mampu diketengahkan untuk membendung krisis tersebut? Maka, kajian ini berusaha untuk mengenal pasti dan menonjolkan etika-etika kerja wanita yang diadaptasi daripada kisah dua orang gadis Madyan yang dirakamkan dalam surah al-Qasas (28: 23-25). Berdasarkan analisis kisah tersebut, kajian ini mendapati bahawa etika wanita dalam kerjaya dan kegiatan ekonomi dirumuskan kepada (8M) iaitu; mas'uliah (tanggungjawab); muru'ah (menjaga kehormatan diri); ma'rifah (memiliki pengetahuan); maharah (memiliki kemahiran); ma'manah (menjaga keselamatan); muhadathah (Komunikasi), mu’āwanah (kerja berpasukan); dan mushawarah (konsultasi). Etika-etika yang digariskan ini mampu memberikan impak positif dalam memenuhi sebahagian kriteria dan amalan baik dalam dunia pekerjaan.

Talfiq secara amnya merujuk kepada menghimpunkan beberapa pandangan sehingga terhasilnya satu pandangan yang tidak diakui oleh mana-mana mujtahid. Sebahagian besar fuqaha muta’akhirin menolak keras pengaplikasian konsep talfiq dalam menyelesaikan sesuatu permasalahan hukum berikutan kesan-kesan negatif yang terhasil daripada konsep tersebut. Namun realiti semasa sebaliknya, keperluan kepada konsep talfiq merupakan perkara yang tidak dapat dielakkan dalam pelbagai keadaan. Oleh yang demikian kajian bertujuan mengkaji faktor-faktor pengaplikasian konsep talfiq disisi ulama mu’asirin berasaskan realiti semasa. Kajian ini bersifat kualitatif data-data dikumpul melalui metode kepustakaan dan temubual. Seterusnya dianalisis melalui metode tematik. Kajian mendapati faktor-faktor yang mendorong kepada penggunaan konsep talfiq dalam pengaplikasian semasa adalah berasas namun pengaplikasiannya mestilah berpandukan dawabit hukum yang betul dalam memastikan ia tidak disalah guna sehingga terjerumus kepada tatabbu’ rukhas di dalam hukum.

Analysis of Rationalization through Restructuring of Islamic Finance based on the Ihsan Principle 基于伊赫桑原则的伊斯兰金融重组合理化分析

Ihsan is the pursuit of excellence in worship and daily activities to achieve success and happiness so as to be rewarded with sweetness of faith and Paradise for doing something beyond what is required. A person who does not pursue ihsan is not considered as zalim (wrongful or unjust) or failing his religious obligations as long as he is just and fair. The main goal of Islamic banking institutions is to avoid all forms of zulm (injustice, cruelty, oppression, exploitation) in transactions and to distinguish Islamic transactions from conventional financial practices. In order to ensure quality and harmony, muamalat practice must be assessed and reviewed from the perspective of ihsan to gain the blessings and pleasure of Allah SWT. The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the rationalization in restructuring Islamic financing from the perspective of ihsan to ensure the objectives and functions of Islamic financial institutions are achieved. This research is qualitative using the method of content analysis. The data were analyzed using descriptive and deductive methods. The results show that the recommendations from the Central Bank of Malaysia and rationalization of Islamic financing restructuring procedure fulfills the principle of ihsan in past implementation and during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Islamic banking institutions have been responsible and exercised forbearance by providing facilities and eliminating difficulties to assist customer dealings. Customers also have the responsibility to banks that have provided financing facilities and accommodated their financial affairs. Hence, this study can serve as a guide to all parties in applying the principle of ihsan to any action and practice to ensure a more meaningful life.

Kejadian gempa bumi sering dilihat sebagai sesuatu kejadian yang negatif kerana kejadian ini mengancam kesejahteraan manusia dan hidupan lain di muka bumi ini. Walaupun fenomena ini telah lama dijelaskan secara saintifik, namun, masyarakat masih lagi mengaitkan peranan Tuhan dengan kejadian ini. Kajian gempa bumi memerlukan perbincangan daripada dua sudut, iaitu dari sudut fizikal iaitu kaedah saintifik dan sudut metafizik, iaitu perspektif agama agar fenomena ini dapat dilihat dengan secara lebih holisik. Kajian gempa bumi daripada perspektif geologi merangkumi aspek punca kejadian, kawasan yang dilanda gempa bumi dan kesan kejadian gempa bumi. Manakala, agama melihat kejadian ini daripada perspektif kekuasaan Tuhan (supreme being) yang menentukan segala-galanya. Kajian ini bertujuan mengetengahkan analisis perbandingan gempa bumi daripada perspektif Islam dan Kristian. Pendekatan kajian ini adalah kualitatif berdasarkan analisis kandungan teks yang diolah secara perbandingan dengan merujuk al-Quran, tafsir al-Quran, Alkitab (Bible), tafsiran Alkitab (biblical exegesis), serta menganalisis sumber-sumber sekunder berkaitan gempa bumi dalam agama Islam, Kristian dan geologi. Sungguhpun fenomena gempa bumi telah banyak dibincangkan dalam kedua-dua agama, namun kajian secara perbandingan dengan penelitian yang lebih mendalam dalam pelbagai aspek masih kurang diberi perhatian oleh para penyelidik. Oleh itu, analisis perbandingan antara Islam dan Kristian dalam penulisan ini menjelaskan persamaan dan perbezaan mengenai gempa bumi dalam tujuh aspek, iaitu kejadian gempa bumi di dalam kitab suci, pandangan agama, peristiwa gempa bumi dalam sejarah, gempa bumi masa kini, gempa bumi masa hadapan, daya tindak agama serta maklumat geologi mengenai gempa bumi dalam kitab suci.

This article focuses on the methodology used by Salah Abdul Fattah al-Khalidi in his abridgement of al-Tabari’s exegesis, Jami' al-Bayan 'an Ta'wil Ay al-Quran: Taqrib Wa Tahzib. This article presents some examples of the methods he used in this discipline, in approximation, in transmission and brevity, as well as comparison to the original exegesis. This qualitative research is designed using a content analysis approach. This article shows that the methods of Salah al-Khalidi are almost completely different from others who shortened this great exegesis, as the corpus of Taqrib Wa Tazhib is considered as an approximation and refinement of al-Tabari, the Jami' al-Bayan 'an Ta'wil Ay al-Quran. It does not shorten or diminish its explicit meaning, but nonetheless is a picture of abridgment, unless the Taqrib Wa Tahzib is broader and more comprehensive. It does not require many deletions, and preserves what was stated in the original exegesis with clarification formed from understanding and simplification of al-Tabari's work. Indeed, Salah al-Khalidi affirmed this matter at the beginning of the Taqrib Wa Tahzib and not omitting is evidence of Salah Khalidi’s honesty and credibility in transmission and discipline.
