Abstract This article argues that conjunct participles form along with the dative absolute the core strategies of Church Slavonic narrative syntax. It is meant to show that word order preferences in participial constructions, which have been observed by among others Zhivov (2011) are possibly determined by Gestalt psychological patterns that hold the middle ground between discourse organization and visual perception. Utilizing the Gestalt concepts of figure and ground and the derived concept of complex figure, it is argued that the larger part of conjunct participle constructions serve the representation of complex figures, with a margin of cases shading off into figure-ground relations. In addition, a liminal zone of participial usage where Gestalt principles seem not to apply on principled grounds is being identified.

Summary Chlebnikov weint (2015), the first collection of poems by Anne Seidel (who was born in 1988 in Dresden), is more than a diary of her travels, be they real or imaginary, through the Russian territory and Russian culture and – more generally – the Slavic world. It causes images of today’s post-Soviet Eastern Europe to collide with images of the Stalinist or Nazi past through the use of figurative constellations which can be compared with Benjamin’s dialectic images. The collection is structured by the principle of differences and repetitions, of cycles and variations and of presence and absence whose dialectic creates what Anne Seidel calls “the instant of (re)cognition” after Mandelʹštam. That is why she defines every poem as a “form of absence”. That way, Anne Seidel keeps away from all memory projects which tend to crush the objects of poems under the weight of memorials.

Racism and Related Concepts in the Russian Linguistic Consciousness 俄语语言意识中的种族主义及其相关概念

Summary This paper discusses one approach to investigating the concept of racism and related concepts in the linguistic image of the world of Russian language users. It focuses on the collection of data (associative experiments) and its psycholinguistic interpretation as well as on the theories behind the experiments, including the theory of linguistic consciousness (teorija jazykovogo soznanija). The study outcomes suggest that Russian language users condemn racism but express this condemnation in a culturally specific way, which might lead to significant misunderstandings and conflicts in the international context.

Accusative-instrumental alternation in Polish 波兰语中宾格-乐器的交替

Summary The present study provides a corpus account of the factors governing the choice between the accusative and the instrumental case for object marking in Polish. The two cases are near-interchangeable with a set of Polish verbs primarily expressing physical manipulation. Following profile-based approaches, a sample of representative usage data has been extracted and manually annotated for subsequent multivariate modeling. The results indicate the importance of construction-specific characteristics for the choice between the two forms and the complex nature of the influence of coarse-grained transitivity-related features. Specifically, two semantic features emerged as particularly associated with the choice of the instrumental: (i) holistic conceptualisation of the manipulated object and (ii) prominence of its physical contiguity to the acting force.

Summary In the current Russian literary scene the writer Denis Osokin (*1977) takes on the role of a poet of ethno-cultural diversity. In his texts, Osokin evokes other languages and cultures. In doing so, he makes use of various textual operations of mystification, which, besides a primitivist author’s mask, include pseudotranslation. The aim of this article is to explore this literary technique central to Osokin and its implications for a general understanding of (Russian) culture and ethno-cultural diversity. Thereby the text-centred model of pseudotranslation introduced by the Israeli literary scholar Gideon Toury will be extended and pseudotranslation will be conceptualized, as proposed by Brigitte Rath, as “a mode of reading” (Rath 2014) – a literary technique through which an original is imagined that is not accessible as the original itself, but only through this imagination. In Osokin’s work, this original can take on the form of a text, a language, or an entire culture. By imagining an original and/or origin that is marked as fictional, Osokin undermines identity discourses and destabilizes seemingly stable categories and assumptions, such as centre and periphery or majority and minority cultures. The aesthetic-poetic and the critical-deconstructionist potential of Osokin’s prose will be exemplified by the short prose text Eugen Lwowskis Geschlechtsbeziehung mit einem Spiegel, which presents itself as a pseudotranslation from German, and the short story Ovsjanki, which is a miniature pseudo-epic reviving the Finno-Ugric people of the Merja, who were assimilated centuries ago by the Slavic-Russian population.

Summary Easy Language as a means for communicative accessibility is designed for use by people with communication impairments and low literacy skills in general, e. g. persons with intellectual disability, functional illiterates or individuals with dementia. Compared to standard written Polish, the complexity of this variety is reduced on all linguistic levels. The present article deals with the level of syntax and follows on from a previous study concerning the syntax of Easy-to-read Russian. It aims to contribute to the linguistically substantiated elaboration of Easy-to-read Polish by submitting suggestions for avoiding complex syntactic structures. Various subgroups of clause constructions and complex sentences are included. It turns out that the endeavour to make sentences as short, simple and comprehensible as possible is quite complex and certainly not easy. The presented suggestions await further discussion among linguists as well as systematic testing with target groups of Easy-to-read Polish. Since Easy Language has been implemented in Polish legislation, it is to be expected that this fact will result in an amplification of Easy-to-read text offers in the future. Therefore, there is a need for more intensive research in the field of Easy Language that can be seen as crucial in enabling people with disabilities and other persons with reading difficulties to fully enjoy the fundamental right to information and participation in social life.
简单语言作为交流无障碍的一种手段,是为一般有沟通障碍和读写能力低的人设计的,例如智力残疾者、功能性文盲或痴呆症患者。与标准书面波兰语相比,这种变体在所有语言层面上的复杂性都降低了。本文是在前人对易读俄语的句法研究的基础上,进一步探讨了俄语的句法水平。它的目的是通过提交避免复杂句法结构的建议,为易于阅读的波兰语提供语言学上有根据的阐述。包括各种子句结构和复合句的子组。事实证明,把句子造得尽可能短、简单和容易理解是相当复杂的,当然也不容易。提出的建议有待语言学家进一步讨论,并在易读波兰语的目标群体中进行系统测试。由于波兰立法已经实施了易读语言,可以预期,这一事实将导致今后易读文本的扩大。因此,有必要在易语言领域进行更深入的研究,这对于使残疾人和其他有阅读困难的人充分享有获取信息和参与社会生活的基本权利至关重要。

Compared to standard written Polish, the complexity of this variety is reduced on all linguistic levels. The present article deals with the level of syntax and follows on from a previous study concerning the syntax of Easy-to-read Russian. It aims to contribute to the linguistically substantiated elaboration of Easy-to-read Polish by submitting suggestions for avoiding complex syntactic structures. Various subgroups of clause constructions and complex sentences are included. It turns out that the endeavour to make sentences as short, simple and comprehensible as possible is quite complex and certainly not easy. The presented suggestions await further discussion among linguists as well as systematic testing with target groups of Easy-to-read Polish. Since Easy Language has been implemented in Polish legislation, it is to be expected that this fact will result in an amplification of Easy-to-read text offers in the future.
