Teaching English to the students of urban and rural areas is like offering bread and butter for breakfast to a common man who is accustomed to taking a porridge in the morning. The proficiency level in English, of learners in rural areas, is terribly low. A mini survey has been carried out among students to test their English language-acquiring skills like speaking, reading, writing, comprehending and so on. The study investigated the rationale for students’ poor performance in the English Language. Suitable recommendations were made for further improvement of students’ performance in English Language, based on the research.

EFFECTS OF INTEGRATED FORM- FOCUSED INSTRUCTION ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ATTITUDE, MOTIVATION, AND ACHIEVEMENT: GRADE 10 IN FOCUS 以形式为中心的综合教学对学生写作态度、动机和成绩的影响:10年级的写作重点

This study aimed at investigating the effects of form-focused instruction on students’ writing attitude, motivation and achievement. A pretest-posttest nonequivalent group quasi-experimental research design was used. Two intact classrooms were taken and assigned to the control group (N = 45) and the treatment group (N =45) through simple random sampling technique. Writing achievement tests and Likert scale type questionnaires were used to collect data for the study. The data were analyzed through independent samples t-test. The Pearson correlation (r) and Cohen’s d effect size statistics were also included in the analysis. Results from the first questionnaire on students’ writing attitude indicated that there was statistically significant (t (88) = 6.975, p < 0.05) difference between the study groups along with large effect size (d = 1.47). Results from the second questionnaire about the students' writing motivation were also found to be significant (t (88) = 4.220, p < 0.05) along with a moderate effect size (0.88). Findings from the writing tests were also found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05) in terms of all the identified measuring rubrics. The implication was that the new conditions carried out in the experimental group had played a significant role in improving the students’ writing attitude, motivation and achievement.

PRONOUNS IN SUNWAR sunwar中的代词

Sunwar (ISO 639-3 suz) belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language of Tibeto-Burman language family of Kiranti branch of Himalayan group. The present paper will concentrate on pronouns in Sunwar. Sunwars are the smallest and lesser known ethnic community of Sikkim. The pronouns are one of the basic features of a language. Pronouns are frequently used in conversations but it is less explored than any other linguistic feature of a language. Sunwar possesses a great wealth of varieties of pronouns which includes personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, interrogative pronouns, relative pronouns, reflexive pronouns, indefinite pronouns. The data has been collected from the state of Sikkim mainly from the east, west and south region and cross checked by the native speakers of the language from different age groups (40 to 70). Apart from the primary data some secondary sources are also used to gather information. The speakers of the Sunwar language have switched to speaking Nepali, which is the official language of Sikkim State, putting the language at the risk of extinction. This paper is a small effort to document the language for the recent and future generation of the language speakers and researchers.

A STUDY OF MODIFICATION IN PRESIDENT NANA AKUFU-ADDO’S 7TH STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS 总统纳纳·阿库夫-阿多第七次国情咨文中的修改研究

This paper examined the use of qualifiers as elements of modification in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s 7th State of the Nation’s Address. It is a qualitative research which employed content analysis to identify patterns and meanings within the text and draws inferences on the communication and context in which they were produced. Through the purposive sampling technique, one hundred (100) sentences were selected and analysed using Mudhsh et al’s (2015) Immediate Constituent Analysis (ICA). This theory provides a paradigm which breaks a sentence down into its constituent parts to help understand its underlying structure and meaning. The finding revealed that there is the preponderance usage of qualifiers in his modification of the nominal group structures than modifiers. Again, most of the qualifying elements in the address are made up of phrases and clauses; hardly were there single words used as qualifiers. It also established that qualifiers are significant in establishing and clarifying meaning in sentence structures and speeches. This underscored the fact that the use of qualifiers in modifying utterances makes information more vivid, more effective and ultimately more receptive to the reader/audience.

The paper explores the intersection of decolonization and ecofeminism, shedding light on the critical examination of these intertwined concepts. It delves into the multifaceted relationships between colonialism, gender, and the environment, aiming to challenge dominant narratives and present an alternative perspective on environmental justice and gender equality. Drawing upon a range of theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence, this study critically analyses the oppressive forces of colonialism and their impact on both marginalized communities and the natural world. It highlights the historical context of colonialism and its ongoing repercussions in terms of resource extraction, land dispossession, and ecological degradation. Moreover, the paper investigates how these processes disproportionately affect women and marginalized genders, amplifying existing gender inequalities and exacerbating environmental injustices. Through an ecofeminist lens, this research emphasizes the interconnectedness of social, ecological, and gendered systems, demonstrating how patriarchal and capitalist ideologies contribute to the exploitation of both women and nature. By uncovering these power dynamics, the study aims to deconstruct dominant narratives and offer a more inclusive and holistic understanding of environmental issues. Furthermore, the paper explores various strategies and movements within ecofeminism that seek to challenge and resist the impacts of colonialism. It examines the potential of ecofeminist thought and activism in fostering sustainable, equitable, and just relationships with nature, centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities. Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of literature on decolonization and ecofeminism, providing a critical analysis of their intersections and implications. By deconstructing oppressive structures and offering alternative perspectives, it aims to inspire discussions, policies, and actions that foster environmental justice and gender equality, ultimately paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

ISSUES OF GENDER BAISED, CASTE, HEREDITY, RELIGION AND SEX IN THE PLAYS OF GIRISH KARNAD: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS 吉里什·卡纳德戏剧中的性别歧视、种姓、遗传、宗教和性问题:批判性分析

Girish Karnad was one of the most prominent and celebrated figures in Indian drama. He was an actor, playwright, and director, whose contribution to Indian theatre was immense. Karnad's plays were deeply rooted in Indian history and mythology, and dealt with issues such as identity, language, and cultural conflict. His works were widely performed and admired not only in India, but also internationally. Karnad's contribution to Indian drama can be seen in his numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Jnanpith Award, considered the highest literary honour in India. His plays, such as Yayati, Tughlaq, and Hayavadana, are regarded as modern classics of Indian theatre. Girish Karnad, the renowned Indian playwright, has addressed various social, cultural, and political issues in his works. While caste, heredity, religion, and sex are themes that occasionally appear in his plays, it is important to note that Karnad’s works are not limited to these topics. He explores a wide range of subjects and uses them as a means to reflect upon the complexities of Indian society and human nature. Here are some instances where these themes are present in Karnad’s plays. Karnad excelled in multiple fields, including theater, cinema, and literature. He was an accomplished playwright, having written numerous plays in Kannada, his native language, as well as in English. Some of his notable plays include Tughlaq, Hayavadana, and Nagamandala. The Main purpose of this paper is to discuss the postmodern world, where all human relationships are breaking and giving birth to existential crisis, alienation and immorality, rootlessness and frustration of urban youth. Upamanyu Chatterjee’s English, August is a lampoon or is a witty, sarcastic commentary on the giant apparatus of the Indian bureaucracy with its incompetent officials and their amateur minions or urchins and their lives depicted through the eyes of young Agastya. It also highlights Chatterjee’s protagonist, August’s rootlessness, frustration and his struggle to discover the root that means to discover the lost relation. The current paper is a modest attempt to highlight modern day urban youth, family dynamics, and socio-political conditions in Upamanyu Chatterjee's novel, English, August . The novels of Upamanyu Chatterjee have the profundity and rootlessness of The Waste Land . He succeeds in connecting with the common man and his psyche, as well as his relationship with his family, through the frustration and alienation of modern man, the moral degradation of his protagonists, and his Kafkaesque style of dark humour, which is terrifying and frequently nauseating.

EXPLORING THE INFLUENCE OF TEACHERS’ CONSTRUCTION OF PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY ON THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDS 探讨教师专业认同建构对其专业发展需求的影响

This study aims to explore the influence of teachers’ professional identity construction on their professional development needs. Interviews were conducted to gather the data for the study. This qualitative study has been adopted throughout the research. To gather the relevant, eight English language teachers were selected purposely. Charmaz’s Grounded Theory was used as a possible framework to analyse the data. The results of the study reveal that teacher’s knowledge of the subject matter, like grammar items, vocabulary, and effective communication skills are essential factors in the teachers’ professional development. The data further reveals that teachers’ professional development pertains to their involvement in the development of subject matter knowledge and teaching skills which are essential constructs in their professional identity construction. The interview data also reveals that there are dynamic connections between teachers’ professional identity and their professional development needs. The data further indicates that teachers' subject matter knowledge and their pedagogic skills are key elements in which their influence and connections are noted. It can be noted from the data that English teachers honored their linguistic knowledge and pedagogic skills to shape and construct their professional identities as teachers. The result of the study may help MoE and researchers who want to conduct on similar studies. Based on the findings of the study, it was suggested that English language teachers want further development programs.
