Word formation process is the tool to form a new word based on several techniques that involve the word itself. The aim of this research is to analyze and to find out the types and the most dominant types of word formation process of words related to food used by food vloggers. The data of this research were utterances from the food vloggers namely Luke Martin, Trevor James, Mark Wiens, Mina Oh, Mike Chen, and Sonny Side in their vlogs on YouTube. The data were analyzed based on several word formation process theories. This research used descriptive method. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found 196 words containing the word formation process related to food and 7 out of 11 types of word formation process. They are (1) borrowing, (2) compounding, (3) clipping, (4) conversion, (5) derivation, (6) inflection, and (7) multiple process. The finding shows that this research is dominated with borrowing process with the frequency of 60 data (31%).

Jakarta in Imaginary City by Rain Chudori (2017) presents how psychogeography theory shows that environmental effects can influence people's ways of thinking, behaviour and emotions. This study aims to prove how Jakarta as a setting of imaginary city affects the emotions and behaviour of characters. Therefore, there are four key words in this novel Dérive, Flâneur, Sense of place, and Place Attachment. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by applying the theory of Psychogeography. The use of the concept is based on the interpretation of the text and in the context of the novel. This analysis also uses many fictional elements such as plot, character, conversation and setting to reveal the meaning contained in the novel. The result of the research shows that there are three keywords that can be proven in this novel based on psychogeography theory.

Theory cooperative principle work as a guideline that instructs people to interact with one another constructively and cooperatively. Grice P. is the one who wrote and delivered it in 1975. The cooperative principle is divided into four types of maxims which are quantity (amount of information), quality (the validity of information), relation (relatability of information), and manner (information delivery). However, there are times when the speaker tries to misguide the listener, and it is called a violation of the maxim principle. It is a maxim created to trick the listener into believing something false while the listener is ignorant of it. Additionally, it creates a problem for linguists since implicature, one of the issues in the field of linguistics, notably pragmatics, is linked to the violation. It happens not only in real-world conversation but also in literary work for example novels. This research examines the maxims that the protagonist of the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1993) violated. A famous novel by famous American writer Mark Twain which tells about Tom Sawyer’s misbehavior and his escapade. Random data sampling is used to collect the data from the source of data to determine the association between one maxim violation and another. The data was collected from statements made by Thomas Sawyer, the book's main character, and various supporting characters in 9 of the novel's 35 chapters. To examine the data from the novel The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, Grice's cooperative principle theory from 1975 is employed, as well as Tupan and Natalia's maxim violation indicator (2008). This analysis found that out of 360 total utterances in 9 chapters, there are only three maxim violations in The Adventure of Tom Sawyer: the violation of quality maxim, relation maxim, and number maxim. 14 infractions of 18 utterances, driven by two indicators, represent 66 percent of the quality maxim violation (lies and denies something). The quantity maxim shows 10% occurrence (2 violations out of 18 utterances dominated by two indicators). In comparison, the relation maxim shows 24 percent occurrence (5 violations out of 18 utterances with each utterance dominating all of the indicators (unmatched topic, avoid something, hides a fact, and the wrong causality)) (uninformative, and talk too much). As a result, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer contains claims that mostly violate the quality and relational maxims.

This article is an analysis of the issue of the effect of childhood trauma in Joseph Moldover's novel entitled Every Moment After (2019). The issue at hand is the extent to which this novel depicts the consequences that arise and affect a person's personality after experiencing childhood trauma, as well as the contribution of literary elements such as characters, conflicts, and settings that rely on text-based interpretations to reveal these consequences. The goal of this analysis is to examine how well the novel depicts the effect of childhood trauma on a person's daily life and affects their mental health and mental illness. The analysis is based on Sigmund Freud's (1957, 1990) literary theory of repression and the unconscious mind. The result of the study, there are two impacts that develop after suffering childhood trauma that affect their mental health, such as anxiety and guilt. Anxiety that is owned by the character makes him afraid of dealing with other people, so it interferes with the character in interacting with other people. The guilt that the character also has makes him someone who always blames himself and even makes the character want to end his life. Therefore, this analysis shows how childhood trauma greatly affects a person's life and makes them have some mental illnesses.

This research aims to examine the functions, types, and differences in swear words between male and female in the Uncut Gems movie. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of swear words, the purposes, and the differences of swear words uttered by male and female characters in Uncut Gems movie. This research employed the descriptive-qualitative method. The data of this research were words, phrases, clauses, and sentences consisting of swear words which were selected from the dialogues of male and female characters in the Uncut Gems movie. While the source of data was the script of the Uncut Gems movie. This study showed that the use of swear words is dominated by the male characters compared to the female. The most dominant type of swear word used by both genders is emphasis. Male characters use swear words mostly to create attention while the female is to provide catharsis. Both male and female characters tend to be more aggressive when uttering swear words. However, when it comes to the variety and range of swear words themselves, it appears that male characters do use more than female characters. This research found that there are two types of swear words, stand-alone and slot-filler. Stand-alone has four functions expletive interjection, curses, unfriendly suggestion, and name-calling. The slot-filler also has four functions adjective/adverbial intensifier, the adjective of dislike, emphasis, and anaphoric use of epithet. At least five purposes of swear words were found to create attention, discredit, provoke, create interpersonal identification, and provide catharsis.

This research is an analysis of three poems by Denice Frohman entitled A Woman's Place (2018), by Reese Leyva entitled Remember, Woman (2015), and by Sylvia Chidi entitled A Woman's Place (2005). This analysis explores the struggles of women in conveying their rights and positions, obtaining gender equality and breaking the patriarchal culture. The analysis of the three poems also reveals the extent to which the author implies the woman’s effort to gain equality. The study of these poems is analyzed with feminist theory and supported with the theories of gender inequality and gender oppression. The results of this study indicate that women already have awareness about their situation and determined to change it. This research will include; 1) injustices and oppression towards women, 2) women’s awareness, 3) women efforts to achieve equality.

The analysis of the three poems also reveals the extent to which the author implies the woman’s effort to gain equality. The study of these poems is analyzed with feminist theory and supported with the theories of gender inequality and gender oppression. The results of this study indicate that women already have awareness about their situation and determined to change it. This research will include; 1) injustices and oppression towards women, 2) women’s awareness, 3) women efforts to achieve equality.","PeriodicalId":42230,"journal":{"name":"Asiatic-IIUM Journal of English Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83796841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
