Patricia McCormick's novel Sold sheds light on the global problem of human and sex trafficking of children. Human trafficking is a major problem that affects people all over the world. After being promised one thing and receiving another, women and children are forced into trafficking. In the world of human trafficking, women are especially vulnerable. Numerous diseases and threats exist. This study aims to use the linguistic critical stylistic analysis, the theme of sex–child trafficking by adopting Jefferies (2010) textual conceptual functions and other stylistic devices to help in analysing the extracts that are representing child sex trafficking. Critical stylistics refers to the stylistic activity of investigating the ways in which social meanings are demonstrated through language. The model elements adopted in this study are: representing actions, event states, negation and hypothesizing and metaphor and irony.

The emergence of Covid-19 created the stipulation for virtual learning as a teaching platform. This study aims to ascertain the perception of ESL learners about virtual education in contrast with the Traditional one in the age of convergence. The comparative analysis will focus on fathoming the influence of these two platforms' engagement and interaction intensity with the ESL learners and the repercussion of the teaching and learning styles adopted to compete for the hostile circumstances of Covid-19. The methodology used is the quantitative comparative analytical method of research. An electronic questionnaire was used to collect initial data from two samples of classroom size of 60 each; adopted one population from virtual learning and another from a traditional setting. The finding shows that the sample of the virtual learning could have been more satisfied with the engagement, interaction and teaching methods. In contrast, the second sample experienced a wide variety of exposure to the learning style, communications, and engagement and was satisfied with traditional learning. Therefore, to increase the activities and study convenience, blended learning would be a better option to improve learners' contentment.

Learning/ Teaching a Foreign language / Second language (English) is a complex task especially in a non-native context where there is little scope for exposure to and use of the target language. The mother tongue (L1) exercises pro-active interference in the learning of a foreign language like English (L2). The level of complexity /difficulty increases with the widening difference between the two languages (L1&L2). Higher levels of conscious efforts are required on the part of the learners to free themselves of the influence of the mother tongue, and to understand, assimilate and interpret the newly learnt language items. It’s an uphill task, both challenging and rewarding for the teacher also to play a pivotal role in facilitating the teaching-learning process. High motivation is the need of the hour for the teaching-learning process so as to make it a pleasant experience for both the partners in the process. In this context Language Games serve as an effective tool towards this end and serve the purpose. Learners of all age groups show interest in games and learning becomes easier and simpler when learning takes place through games. Language games provide familiar, native setting for language learning in a non-native context there by removing all sorts of apprehensions, hesitation, fears and confusion.

The paper is a part of the researcher’s Ph. D. research work in the area of interaction analysis. Motivation, as a state of mind, plays an important role in the learner’s performance in a second/ foreign language. The concept, motivation, has been categorized by Gardener and Lambert (1972) under two labels, namely, instrumental and integrative motivation. The researcher, as a part of her main study, examined the types of motivation to learn English among the non-native Indian learner participants in the study and analysed the correlation between their levels of motivation and their use of communication strategies while they participated in the group tasks devised by the researcher for this purpose. The paper, based on the findings of the study, concludes with an emphasis on a need on the part of teaching fraternity to elevate the levels of learners’ motivation by providing them more opportunities for exposure to the language and building on their own needs for developing ability in English.

Language is influenced by social power relations, and language is used as an instrument to exercise social power. Social factors condition the language learning process as well as the exchanges between differentlyaligned groups and domains. The primary objective of this article isto critically examine the dynamic relationship between the second language learner and the society with its constellation of complex determinants. Teachers need to appreciate the diverse dimensions of power in society and contemplate the role of the second language (English for the present context) in expressing, establishing, perpetuating, as well as contesting power relations in society. In particular, there needs to be deliberation on the contexts of identity, social class or caste, education, gender, media, politics as well as ethnicity.

Marriage is the destiny of the woman; to live single is suggestive of weirdness. It carries shame to the woman's loved ones. It is the guardians' social commitment and moral obligation to get their little girl married before she passes the eligible age. For social backing and her people’s happiness, the young lady needs to go through the awkward inquiry where she is inspected by the family members as though she is a commercial item. Dispossessed of the opportunity to decide or articulate her thoughts, she is forced into marriage customs. Neither her people nor the man ask what she wants. Deshpande’s anxiety with the man centric idea that a woman should exist just as far as her relationship with a man where she will actually want to control all phases of her life. The chief focal point of the study is woman. Through the eyes of feminism, it has to been seen that how and to what extent she has been given expression by Shashi Deshpande. In the contemporary global scenario, English is widely accepted as a link language, especially in the fields of business and marketing. Therefore, professionals in a business setting are expected to acquire the optimal level of linguistic competence that the workplace demands to perform effectively in their assigned job positions. In this context, the significance of Business English, a variety of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), is immense in business correspondence and reporting. The research paper discusses the means of implementing the principles, techniques and praxis of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in teaching English as a second language in a Business English classroom. The study follows a descriptive methodology by reviewing literature related to the prior studies in TBLT and ESP. The study elaborates on a detailed lesson plan that had been validated and field tested with a group of business English learners at the undergraduate level in Kerala. The research paper provides insights regarding the implications of TBLT in an ESP classroom by elaborating on the scope and possible challenges. The researcher also makes a few recommendations and suggestions. The research concludes that incorporating TBLT as a part of one of the methodologies can immensely benefit students of English for specific purposes.

Tai-Khamyang is a critically threatened language of the Tai-Kadai or Daic group that belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language family. The spoken variety of Khamyang is only surviving in one remaining village Powaimukh. According to Ethnologue (ISO 639-3), there 800 ethnic populations are living all over Assam. According to Stephen Morey (2003), approximately only fifty (50) older adults use the language to communicate with each other. (Morey, 2018) During fieldwork, it was observed that there are only 4 to 5 people who can read and but there are very few people who can write the language.The proper use of the language is very low. This paper presents a brief sketch of tense and aspect in Tai-Khamyang, a variety of Tai Kadai language spoken by a very less number of people in Powaimukh village located in North East region District Tinsukia in the state of Assam. The paper begins with a brief introduction to the Tai-Khamyang language, which is followed by a descriptive analysis of the tense and aspects of the language.

(Morey, 2018) During fieldwork, it was observed that there are only 4 to 5 people who can read and but there are very few people who can write the language.The proper use of the language is very low. This paper presents a brief sketch of tense and aspect in Tai-Khamyang, a variety of Tai Kadai language spoken by a very less number of people in Powaimukh village located in North East region District Tinsukia in the state of Assam.
