The influence of thin plate prevented the projection of particles under laser heating is analyzed analytically and numerically. It was shown that the conjugate heat exchange between different materials changes not only absorbed heat quality during the heating but affect the kind of the dependence for the temperature on time. Temperature distribution for different time moments is illustrated for two particular cases. Half-transparent plate and half-transparent heated material are discussed. The results are useful to understand the physical phenomena in additive manufacturing.

Metal-intermetallic lamellar (MIL) composites with different intermetallic phase volume fraction (from 47 to 78 %) obtained by reactive spark plasma sintering (SPS) of Ti and Al foils enclosed in Ti shells were investigated. It was shown that increase of titanium aluminide volume fraction in the composites had no influence on their compressive strength at the loading along the layers. Compressive strength at the aforementioned loading conditions was 775 - 790 MPa. However, at the loading of materials in the direction perpendicular to layers the compressive strength value raised from 655 to 760 MPa with increase of titanium volume fraction in the material.

The contact between rough surfaces is generally restricted to a number of microscopic actual contact areas located near peaks or asperities of rough surfaces. The actual contact area between two surfaces can be modeled by the set of spots. This paper develops a distribution of the area spots. It has been shown that the power law can express the distribution of the contact spots on engineering surfaces. The estimation of the parameters of the distribution is presented.

The electric motor control algorithms for regulation the electromechanical system natural frequency to maintain the resonant mode of operation and stabilization of vibration parameters were considered. Simulated model was proposed and energetic characteristics of the electric motor according to the generalized performance coefficient were estimated.

The paper presents the structural analysis of the welded joint phase state subjected to plastic deformation. The analysis is carried out using the transmission electron microscopy. The type St3 steel is used for the welding material. The effect of plastic deformation is determined for the material morphology, phase composition, defect structure, and its parameters. Investigations are conducted at 1 mm distance between weld and base metals at the deformation degree ranging between 0-5%. Plastic deformation does not lead to a structural quality modification (hypopearlitic steel structure is present as before), while the qualitative parameters are changed such that a portion of the perlite component becomes more defective and first transforms to fractured perlite and then ferrite, and the perlite volume fraction then decreases. Polarization of the dislocation structure is observed, however, does not induce internal stresses capable to disintegrate the specimen.

Damage of open-top wagon bodies in service is an urgent problem. In general, it is connected with breach of requirements to handling operations. This paper deals with modeling cargo block falling onto the underframe of a blind open-top wagon. The data obtained on stressed-deformed body underframe in the result of shocks are of local character for the body structure. Normal stress values in underframe beam cross-sections depend on the cargo block falling place: the maximum stress - if there is impact on longitudinal support beams and the minimum - if the is falling on the joint of intermediate and longitudinal beams. Steel dynamic yield stress is assumed as allowed stress values.

Realization control volume method for calculation of non-stationary task of heat conductivity is presented in the article. This method can be applied for simulation of metal casting solidification in sand mold and other application. Distinctive feature of the developed method is possibility of application of the distributed computing which provides a good result on calculation speed, however demands the bigger volume of random access memory. In the calculation example, for a grid from 1 million elements the increase in calculation speed by 15÷20% was reached when using 2 cores of the Intel Core I-5 processor and by 30% when using 3 cores. Also there is a possibility of increase of calculations accuracy for the account of increase in quantity of calculated elements at identical calculation time.

The article reveals theoretical dependencies of surface finish, waviness, microhardness and residual stress on spark eroding conditions. The main factors causing tool electrode wear and influencing the process efficiency are determined. On this basis theoretical dependencies of tool volume wear and process efficiency on process parameters are established. Thanks to these dependencies it is possible to carry out process control over parts surface layer quality characteristics, tool electrode wear and efficiency of spark eroding.
