The Monte Carlo method is first used to estimate the contribution of multiple scattering to signals of a monostatic sodar operating in plane-stratified turbulent atmosphere. Numerical estimates of multiple scattering contributions are presented as functions of the sodar parameters, and atmospheric conditions.

Relevance of the work is conditioned by necessary improvement of the design methods for irregular shape objects. The paper presents the analysis of environmental design object arrangement according to the biological object. There used the methods of biologically based design and the methods of mathematical modeling (for load calculation). The article demonstrates that the similarity method of biological and technical objects can be used at the first design phase of the technical object shape. Use of materials and technologies is justified for winding stairs production, which includes a biological object. The principles of bionic aesthetics being the basis for design are substantiated.

Plasma-spraying process with the use of indirect and direct arcs is taken up. The coat strengthening is realized by local weld penetration of the coat in equally spaced zones by power impulse modulation of the plasmotron direct arc. Theoretically estimated modes of strengthening, providing coat weld penetration till the transition zone of the coat base and satisfying the surface exploitation loads are presented.

Damage of open-top wagon bodies in service is an urgent problem. In general, it is connected with breach of requirements to handling operations. This paper deals with modeling cargo block falling onto the underframe of a blind open-top wagon. The data obtained on stressed-deformed body underframe in the result of shocks are of local character for the body structure. Normal stress values in underframe beam cross-sections depend on the cargo block falling place: the maximum stress - if there is impact on longitudinal support beams and the minimum - if the is falling on the joint of intermediate and longitudinal beams. Steel dynamic yield stress is assumed as allowed stress values.

This paper deals with the issue of marine diesel generator unsteadiness due to the difference between an electrical propulsion system power consumption and a marine power plant generation. To describe this issue the seagoing tug “Project 745” was taken as an example. The reasons of power mismatching have been described in the following paper. The ways of this problems solving have been studied. This issue is relevant for all ships where the rated power of electric propulsion system is comparable to the power of marine sources of electrical energy.

The contact between rough surfaces is generally restricted to a number of microscopic actual contact areas located near peaks or asperities of rough surfaces. The actual contact area between two surfaces can be modeled by the set of spots. This paper develops a distribution of the area spots. It has been shown that the power law can express the distribution of the contact spots on engineering surfaces. The estimation of the parameters of the distribution is presented.

The paper presents the structural analysis of the welded joint phase state subjected to plastic deformation. The analysis is carried out using the transmission electron microscopy. The type St3 steel is used for the welding material. The effect of plastic deformation is determined for the material morphology, phase composition, defect structure, and its parameters. Investigations are conducted at 1 mm distance between weld and base metals at the deformation degree ranging between 0-5%. Plastic deformation does not lead to a structural quality modification (hypopearlitic steel structure is present as before), while the qualitative parameters are changed such that a portion of the perlite component becomes more defective and first transforms to fractured perlite and then ferrite, and the perlite volume fraction then decreases. Polarization of the dislocation structure is observed, however, does not induce internal stresses capable to disintegrate the specimen.

In this paper the description of the developed subroutine on the ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) for automatic building of finite-element model of the typical metal pylons (supports) of air power transmission lines is presented. The proposed algorithm of the subroutines and structure of preparation of initial data allows user to edit and create models of typical constructions of pylon according to the drawings in a short time and to make necessary simulations.

Application of the ray series method is studied on the example of the one-dimensional problem of the impact load on the boundary of a nonlinear elastic cylindrical layer. Particular attention is paid to the construction of ray series for the shock waves formed within the layer as a result of the interaction of the initial shock waves.

One of the main problems of studying the process of cutting of materials and tool wear deals with studying both the kind and character of contact interaction between the treated metal and the working surfaces of the tool. Without clear view of both the character of contact interaction and the patterns of kinematics, deformation, and thermal processes in contact zones over a full range of cutting speeds, it is impossible to make correct conclusions on the nature and common patterns of tool wear.
