Reliability Odyssey: After 2001 可靠性奥德赛:2001年后

The story of reliability engineering reminds to most human stories, either in technical and scientific field, or in arts and social relationships, hence may be told in a general, metaphorical way going back to timeless myths and tales. Highs and lows, good ideas and mistakes, rigorous approaches and fads. It's the same old story, and it is then possible to remind to timeless literature works in order to describe the story of this discipline. The Odyssey of Homer is the perfect tale to represent the first five decades, until the end of the XX century, but entering the new millennium is like to pass the Pillars of Hercules. New challenges require that reliability changes itself. Maintaining the metaphor, the change is similar to the evolution from the world of the Greek cities to the Roman empire. The Odyssey speaks of illusions, monsters, storms, errors and hope woven together. The new challenge faces to dominate the ever increasing dimension of the problems and to take care of the nature through sustainability.

Reputation-driven multimodal emotion recognition in wearable biosensor network 可穿戴生物传感器网络中声誉驱动的多模态情感识别

Emotion recognition is a process in which emotions are identified and recognized according to emotion-related bio signals. Wearable biosensor network expands the application of emotion recognition by measuring different emotion-related bio signals with wearable and portable hardware structures to meet specific needs in complicated measuring environment. This paper develops a multimodal emotion recognition method in wearable biosensor network. Reputation-driven Support Vector Machine (RSVM) classification algorithm is proposed to reduce the classification error caused by wearable sensor nodes. Reputations are figured out by similarity evaluation based on correlation calculation and are used for training sample selection and fuzzy membership degree determination. The experiment results indicate that this framework realizes reliable emotion recognition in wearable web-enable sensing environment and provides a solution to primary recognition and monitoring of emotional states and spiritual health.

A simple microcontroller based digitizer for differential inductive sensors 一个简单的基于微控制器的差分电感传感器数字化仪

This paper presents a simple digitizer suitable for differential variable inductive/reluctance sensors. The proposed scheme uses two digital I/O pins, a counter and a comparator of a microcontroller and obtains a digital output directly proportional to the measurand which is sensed using a differential variable inductive/reluctance sensor possessing either a linear or an inverse transfer characteristic. The scheme uses a ratio-metric approach in the computation and hence the output is less sensitive to variation in the parameters such as excitation voltage, reference voltage, offset of the comparator, etc. A prototype of the proposed system has been built and tested using standard variable inductors that emulated a differential inductive sensor following an inverse characteristic. The output recorded was linear across the full range and worst-case error noted was less than 0.3 %. For the prototype developed, the time taken to complete a measurement was 200 μs. The prototype digitizer has been interfaced with a commercially available LVDT and tested. The worst-case error observed in this test was 0.77%. Also, the same digitizer has been employed to get a digital readout from a differential variable reluctance based displacement sensor. The worst-case error was less than 0.83%. The test results establish the efficacy of, the simple and cost effective, scheme developed.

Real-time middle wave infrared aerial image capturing and stitching system for vegetation observation 植被观测实时中波红外航拍拼接系统

Over the last decades, several studies have demonstrated the reflectance effectiveness of middle wave infrared (MWIR) for discriminating among different types of vegetation, and estimating the total and leaf biomass of several forest ecosystems. Therefore, a MWIR aerial image capturing system for vegetation observation is urgently required. Furthermore, stitching those MWIR aerial images together is necessary for a panorama of the region of interest (ROI). Most traditional stitching algorithms for aerial images are designed for visible images, and are not suitable for infrared images that are noisy, blurry, or lack detail. In this paper, a novel real-time MWIR aerial image capturing and stitching system for vegetation observation is proposed. The proposed stitching algorithm for aerial infrared images improved from scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) and random M-least square can find a sufficient number of feature points easily and perform rapid calculations. Therefore, the proposed MWIR aerial image capturing and stitching system for vegetation observation can operate in real time.

Start-up response improvement for a MEMS inclinometer MEMS倾角仪启动响应改进

A MEMS inclinometer SCA830 manufactured by Murata was used in a battery-powered handheld instrument designed for measurement of parallelism during fabrication of coil springs. The inclinometer offers a power down mode to reduce power consumption by stopping the internal clocks and resetting the control registers of the device. The power reduction is very significant; however, a transient response was observed in output data. This article describes a compensation technique to suppress this effect, and therefore significantly reduce the startup time. In this case, the model allowed to reduce the start-up time ten times.

Tuneable and portable lighting system for Visible Light Communications (TP-VLC) 可见光通信(TP-VLC)可调谐便携式照明系统

This work presents a low cost prototype implementing new IEEE 802.15.7 standard for Visible Light Communications. A commercial off-the-shelf development platform is used to implement the firmware controlling the system. The system is tested with different LED luminaires and distances achieving data rates of 100 kbit/s with Bit Error Rates between (10-7 to 10-4) over distances up to 8 meters. Brightness control of the LED while transmitting data can be achieved allowing for a tuneable VLC system.

Sparse 3D reconstruction on a mobile phone with stereo camera for close-range optical tracking 利用立体相机在手机上进行稀疏三维重建,实现近距离光学跟踪

We present a prototype of optical tracking system running on unmodified HTC Evo 3D mobile phone with stereo camera. The system uses checkerboard markers for 3D metric reconstruction of the captured scene. We present the results of camera calibration and we assess the accuracy of tracking, by comparing the 3D point sets obtained from the system with a reference geometry. The accuracy of the prototype turns out to be strongly dependent on the distance from the cameras. The RMS error of 3-dimensional reconstruction of the set of 912 points computed within the distance range of 0.35-1.15 m is 7.4 mm.

Automatic measurement system for the DC and low-f noise characterization of FETs at wafer level 用于晶圆级fet直流和低噪声特性的自动测量系统

In this work we propose a measurement setup topology suitable for the automatic DC and low frequency noise (LFN) characterization of field effect transistors at wafer level. The system is composed of source and measure units (SMUs), by a custom-built low noise amplifier (LNA), and by a PC based spectrum analyzer. No bias filters and switch matrices are used, allowing fast switching between DC and LFN measurements together with low leakage. The programmable LNA can reach background noise levels in the order of fA/Hz1/2, while DC performances are limited by the SMUs. The main feature of the proposed system is the high degree of operational flexibility due to the complete PC-based software control. LFN characterization, down to bias DC currents of 1pA, in organic thin film transistors is reported to demonstrate system operation and performances.

The system is composed of source and measure units (SMUs), by a custom-built low noise amplifier (LNA), and by a PC based spectrum analyzer. No bias filters and switch matrices are used, allowing fast switching between DC and LFN measurements together with low leakage. The programmable LNA can reach background noise levels in the order of fA/Hz1/2, while DC performances are limited by the SMUs. The main feature of the proposed system is the high degree of operational flexibility due to the complete PC-based software control. Kalman filtering for wearable fitness monitoring 可穿戴健身监测的卡尔曼滤波

This paper presents a low-cost wearable fitness monitoring device utilizing a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) embedding 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer. The objective is to measure the angular value form by the feet with respect to the gravitational vector while walking in order to estimate the stride length. Kalman filter is employed for the sensor fusion technique and data conditioning.

An investigation on rail health monitoring using acoustic emission technique by tensile test 拉伸试验声发射技术在钢轨健康监测中的应用研究

In order to detect the health status of high-speed railway, various studies have been examined by Acoustic Emission (AE) method. However, little work has been done on studying the relationship between rail status and features of AE signals, and this relationship can be used to establish a detection criterion for rail health monitoring. This paper presents a methodology on rail health monitoring by AE signals and establishing a detection criterion. AE signals in different safe status are obtained by tensile testing machine and AE data acquisition system. The safe and unsafe region of rail steel is analyzed by stress-strain curve. Based on the Chebyshev's inequality and the variation rate of AE hits, a detection criteria is established to detect the safe status of rail, and the corresponding detection procedure are provided. The results clearly illustrate that the proposed method can detect the safe status of rail effectively.
