This article attempts to identify the root-affix asymmetries in three Iranian Balochi dialects (IBDs) (Mirjaveh Sarhaddi Balochi (MSB), Sarawani Balochi (SB) and Lashari Balochi (LB)). All inflectional and derivation affixes found in IBDs are examined against the Babyee’s (2005) hypotheses. In addition, the analyses of these asymmetries are represented based on Optimality Theory, comparative tableau (Prince 2000). The data have been collected during a research fieldwork in Sistan and Baluchistan province of Iran. The research findings illustrate that there are phoneme restrictions in the phonological structure of affixes, indeed, affixes select the set of less marked phonemes in comparison with roots, also the morpheme shapes in affixes are simple, while roots allow the consonant clusters both in initial and final positions, no complex onsets or codas are seen in the syllable structure of affixes. Moreover, in the constraint rankings, the faithfulness constraint namely FAITH ROOT is considered as an undominated constraint to support the idea that roots intend to have more contrasts.

This article studies variations in the realisation of contour tones in Oyo, Ibadan, Ife, Igbomina, Ijebu, Ijesa, Ilorin, and Onko dialects of Yoruba and reports that the dialects exploit different dimensions of contour tone realisation to distinguish themselves. Ife, Igbomina and Ijesa dialects reduce the frequency of contour tones via high tone lowering and contour levelling, whereas Ijebu dialect multiplies contours in several ways. For instance, where the other dialects have MH and HH sequences, Ijebu has LH [LR], which increases its frequency of contour tones. In addition, Ijebu is the only dialect in which the M participates in contour tone formation whereby, ML sequence is realised MMUL. On the other extreme, Onko does not realise the falling contour at all. It is consequently argued that these dissimilarities between tonal contours are key indicators of dialectal variations among Yoruba dialects and they are more discernible than segmental and other grammatical indicators that have been more widely studied.

The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the consonants of the Ancient Jugra Dialect (AJD) that exist in the state of Selangor. The reconstruction of AJD was conducted using the qualitative comparison method. Reconstruction of the consonant was using the internal reconstruction method. The reconstruction criteria used was specifying the cognate word, search for the correspondence device to determine phoneme recurrence and to obtain the ancient phonemes. Three Selangor Jugra variants (JV) were studied, namely the variants of Sungai Buaya (SB), Pulau Nyatoh (PN) and Kelanang (KLNG). The result of this study has proven that the reconstructed AJD has 18 consonant phonemes, that is *p, *b, *t, *d, *k, *ɡ, *ɣ, *h,*s,*tʃ, *dʒ,*m, *n, *ɲ, *ŋ, *l, *w, *j. The Corpus del Español / Web Dialects was used to study usage differences among 21 Spanish-speaking countries. This included variation in verbal morphology: the use of -ra and - se forms of the past subjunctive (e.g. comiera~comiese ), and final -s on 2 nd person singular preterites (e.g. pusistes ). The appearance of habían with plural arguments (e.g. habían muchas riñas) , the use of the present perfect to express recent past events (e.g. Esta mañana lo hemos visto ), the use of present subjunctive in embedded clauses following matrix clauses with past tense subjunctive triggers (e.g. Quería que vengas y no viniste ), and rates of clitic climbing (e.g. Lo iban a ver~iban a verlo ) were also examined. Variation in nine vocabulary was also studied (e.g. elevador~ascensor ), gender variation in seven words (e.g. el~la margen ), and the use of ser or estar with consciente .

In this paper, I estimate the “Employer Learning Model” with a Japanese panel dataset. With this estimation, I would like to test whether Japanese employers modify their use of education for the evaluation of employees’ wages and whether wage disparity based on hometown exists in the Japanese labor market that is comprised of only a yellow-skinned race. The results of the analysis show that Japanese employers are learning about employees’ productivity, but the feature of learning is different than shown in previous studies. As employees’ tenures grow longer, the effect on wages of a variable, which can only be observed by econometricians (reasoning test score is used in this paper), grows bigger. However, the effect of the length of education remains, regardless of long tenure. Furthermore, wage disparity based on employees’ hometown is confirmed, and the employees from a hometown using a unique dialect tend to have low wages.

The automated mapping of the Antoni M. Alcover’s notebooks , allows to access to numerous dialect materials collected during the first third of the 20th century. These provide essential knowledge for the history of the Catalan language. Concerning lexicon, the data show the specific vocabulary of various semantic fields, as well as general information related to anthroponymy and toponymy. Starting from this last field of research, the notebooks include a considerable number of placenames, which often present graphic variants. The main aim of this work is to study the structure of the suffixes that form the demonyms from the data provided by the aforementioned materials. These will be completed with those appearing in other contemporary projects: the Diccionari català-valencià-balear ( DCVB ) and the Atlas Lingüístico de la Península Ibérica ( ALPI ). It is also intended to offer a sample of the distribution and use of the placenames at the beginning of the 20th century, which will allow the execution of more complete comparative studies in the future.
