Cet article aborde la production et la gestion de biens et services collectifs par les organisations de l’économie sociale au Mali. Précisément, l’article analyse la participation d’une association villageoise, une organisation communautaire à caractère coopératif, dans le développement socioéconomique local, par la mise en commun de moyens et de ressources afin de produire des biens et services collectifs autogérés au profit des membres, mais aussi des non adhérents qui doivent payer plus. Ce mode d’organisation permet aux producteurs de riz de sécuriser leurs conditions de vie, dans l’une des plus entreprises hydro-agricoles de l’Afrique de l’ouest, mais également de participer au développement de leur communauté.

A key message conveyed by the theme of this issue is that, as we look ahead to efforts aimed at producing new knowledge that accounts for the experiences of the pandemic and the strategies adopted in response to it, it is crucial that we not lose sight of the experiences and knowledge that have shaped the foundations of the social economy. While there will no doubt be a desire to think of the world as pre- and post-COVID-19, there is much we can learn from how communities and organizations responded to the crisis that could strengthen the role of the social economy and nonprofits in our society. Social economy organizations and the private sector are collaborating, for example, when the private sector has often considered the social economy as a subsidized sector engaged in unfair competition. In order to understand how the experiences in Québec align with other parts of Canada, J.J. McMurtry provides an English response to the dialogue, which considers the content of the dialogue and its significance beyond the borders of Québec. There remains a knowledge gap regarding the factors that drive the development of business-nonprofit partnerships in the context of employer-supported volunteering—especially in small and medium enterprises. Furthermore, there is a need to consider how enterprises operate in their cultural contexts to better understand how they support volunteering trends in Canada. This study aimed to improve understanding of the multi-level factors that foster the development of business-nonprofit partnerships in the context of employer-supported volunteering. Fifteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with community and small business actors in a semi-rural setting in Francophone Québec. Results challenged the traditional view of volunteer support as a distinct activity, showing an integrated system of inter-dependence. Results suggest the relevance of conceptualizing small enterprises’ support of volunteering as part of an inclusive approach to community engagement. RÉSUMÉLes facteurs liés au développement de partenariats entre entreprises et OBNL dans le contexte du bénévolat appuyé par l’employeur sont méconnus – particulièrement au sein des petites et moyennes entreprises. Il est également pertinent de considérer le contexte culturel pour mieux comprendre les tendances canadiennes du bénévolat appuyé par l’employeur. Cette étude vise l’obtention d’une meilleure compréhension des facteurs multiniveaux associés au développement de partenariats entreprises-OBNL dans le contexte du soutien au bénévolat. In a context marked by a trend towards marketization and a rise in performance measures, nonprofit organizations (NPOs) suffer pressures to show that their activities have visible impacts. Based on the French pragmatist sociology’s Economies of Worth framework, we explore how NPOs may come to change what they value and what is their fundamental purpose. More specifically, we delve into the process of valuation triggered by the intervention of consultants to help a NPO develop an impact evaluation tool aimed at legitimizing its actions. Our findings show how this process led to a complete redefinition of the NPO’s “theory of change”, ultimately distantiating the NPO from its initial, explicit purposes.

Integrated social accounting places social and environmental performance alongside financial performance. This is in contrast to supplemental social accounting reports, which are separate from the financial reporting and often used as marketing and public relations devices. It is possible to identify different ‘waves’ of integrated social accounting, starting with the first wave in the 1970s, the second wave in the 1990s, and the third wave in the 2000s. Today, with the popularization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 agenda, we may be entering the fourth wave. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a common language and shared purpose for a multitude of actors, spanning networks, organizational types, and geographical levels. This article proposes an integrated social accounting model that focuses organizational attention on the internal and external impacts of their activities, through the lens of the SDGs. La comptabilité sociale intégrée place la performance sociale et environnementale aux côtés de la performance financière. Cela contraste avec les rapports supplémentaires de comptabilité sociale, qui sont séparés des rapports financiers et souvent utilisés comme dispositifs de marketing et de relations publiques. Il est possible d’identifier différentes «vagues» de comptabilité sociale intégrée, à commencer par la première vague des années 1970, la deuxième vague des années 1990 et la troisième vague des années 2000. Aujourd'hui, avec la popularisation du programme des Nations Unies pour le développement durable à l'horizon 2030, nous entrons peut-être dans la quatrième vague. The legal purpose of credit co-operatives in Germany and Austria is to promote their members economically. However,legal restrictions prevent them from discriminating between members and non-members. Thus, they have difficulty generating economic benefits for their members. There are signs that they are gradually developing from being purely member-focused to somewhat third party-focused co-operatives striving for the common good. The question arises whetherthis hybridization is in the interest of their members. This article examines this question using quantitative data. Theresults indicate that members perceive activities geared toward the common good as enhancing their membership valueand are applicable to credit co-operatives and credit unions that have difficulties providing economic benefits to theirmembers, as is the case for Raiffeisen credit co-operatives in Europe.Le but légal des coopératives de crédit en Allemagne et en Autriche est d’aider leurs membres d’un point de vueéconomique. Cependant, certaines contraintes légales empêchent celles-ci de faire la distinction entre membres et nonmembres. The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare many of the weaknesses in our social and economic systems, exacerbating someof these challenges and drawing attention to others as we, collectively, find a way forward that results in a sustainable,inclusive, and equitable future for all. Around the world, community economic development (CED) initiatives already fosterinclusive economic revitalization, access to capital for business development, local ownership of resources, job creation,poverty reduction, and environmental stewardship. At a larger scale, CED can provide the foundation for COVID-19 recovery. This article outlines key policy proposals for CED-based recovery in Canada and elsewhere. Through the lens ofreconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, intersectionality, and a just transition to a low-carbon future, the CanadianCommunity Economic Development Network proposes the implementation of a national social innovation and social finance strategy and other complementary proposals for a post-COVID-19 world.La pandémie de COVID-19 a mis à nu plusieurs des faiblesses de nos systèmes sociaux et économiques, exacerbantcertains de ces défis et attirant l’attention sur d’autres alors que nous trouvons collectivement une façon d’aller de l’avantqui mènera vers un avenir viable, inclusif et équitable pour tous et toutes. Employment is a pathway to increased income and empowerment, and improved quality of life and well-being; but for people with disabilities, job opportunities are limited, and employment supports often inadequate. This exploratory study analyzes the role of the nonprofit sector as a site for inclusive employment. Using data gathered from documents and in-depth interviews with nonprofit organizational staff, this study identifies the benefits that can accrue—to individuals, organizations, and communities—when agencies in the nonprofit sector employ persons with disabilities. The presence of employees with disabilities in the workplace increased sensitivity and awareness among all workers, conferred value on disability through an explicit recognition of the particularity of varying lived embodiments, and clarified the notion of dependence.Avoir un emploi assure un revenu et une autonomisation accrus ainsi qu’une meilleure qualité de vie et un sentiment de mieux-être. The pandemic has had strong impacts on collective organizations in Quebec (community and social economy enterprises).In the short term, these organizations have shown a remarkable capacity to adapt and respond to urgent needs. But thepandemic has also underlined the importance of the approach, the discourse and the practices of these collectives initiatives.
