The research examined the spread of internet addiction among tertiary institution students in Osun State and examine the connection between social anxiety and internet addiction. The research used descriptive survey research methodology. A sample of 1,430 students were picked to be involved in the research using multi-stage sampling methodology. Information were gathered using an instrument titled ″Social Anxiety and Internet Addiction Questionnaire (SAIAQ). Information gathered were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Specifically, research questions one, two and three were answered using percentages and frequency counts. Research hypotheses one, two and four were tested using Pearson product moment correlation while hypotheses three, five and six were tested using ordinal logistic regression, multiple regression analysis respectively. The outcome indicated that majority of participants (56.78%) exhibited little degree of internet addiction, while 23.63% and 15.01% exhibited moderate and severe levels of internet addiction respectively. The research also revealed a significant positive relationship between social anxiety and internet addiction among the students (r=0.261, p=0.000). The research inferred that social anxiety is potent factor that could trigger internet addiction of students and exhibition of internet addiction would reduce more with students’ age.

Physical Activity is an important contributor to health, both physical and cognitive. The relationship between physical activity and educational outcomes has been explored in various venues. Little research, however, has interrogated this subject longitudinally, especially for a national sample of Latinx students. To make up that gap, this paper employs data from the High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), hierarchical regression modeling, and intersectionality theory to study and evaluate the relative impact of Extracurricular Activities, School Attitudes, and impact of demographics on Personal Health and Physical Education Grade Point Average (GPA); the participants were 1,829 Latinx high school students. The High School Longitudinal Study is a nationally representative, longitudinal study of ninth graders followed through their secondary and postsecondary years. Further, we examined the results separately for male and female Latinx students, to achieve a better understanding of physical activity and academic achievement from the female perspective. Our findings reinforce the importance of participating in sports and extracurricular activities in fostering positive educational outcomes for Latinx students, male, and female, nationally. Finally, recommendations are offered to parents, community leaders, teachers, school administrators, and policymakers regarding implementation strategies to optimize the benefits of Physical Activity to Latinx students.

Teachers often struggle to facilitate open discussions about evolution when they perceive it to be at odds with cultural and religious norms. Little is understood about classroom discourse and teacher-student interactions during the teaching of evolution. This study analyzed classroom discourse and teacher-student exchanges in a 10th-grade biology classroom at a rural high school during the evolution and human genetics units. It also considered contextual factors such as the teacher's acceptance and understanding of evolution and his perspective on the nature of science [NOS]. A microanalysis of classroom discourse showed that lecturing and recitation were the most commonly used discourse patterns. While the intent of the teacher's questions and their impact on students' subsequent responses varied across dialogue patterns, the most frequent objective of the teacher's questions in both units was to assess correctness. The teacher's feedback mostly acknowledges responses, confirms correct answers, and reiterates responses. The teacher displayed a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of NOS. He also demonstrated a strong acceptance of evolution. The questionnaire results and his teaching throughout the unit indicated a high understanding of evolution. This study suggested that teachers with solid acceptance and a well-informed understanding of evolution may still utilize teacher-dominated discourse patterns and ask questions primarily to obtain factual knowledge.

This study focuses on collegiality competence among social and healthcare educators, aiming to identify profiles and factors linked to these profiles. The importance of collegiality for educators' career growth and workplace well-being has been recognized, but less attention has been given to specific profiles and their underlying factors. Data from educators in vocational institutions and universities of applied sciences were collected using the CollegialityComp instrument, assessing five competence areas: 1) individual-centered collaboration, 2) educator action and fairness, 3) collaboration among colleagues, 4) collaboration outside the organization, and 5) communication and trust. Three educator profiles emerged: Profile A displayed high competence in all areas, Profile B showed strong competence in certain areas, and Profile C demonstrated intermediate competence across all. Education and job title significantly linked to specific profiles. Educators with doctoral degrees had lower collegiality levels. The findings suggest the importance of facilitating external collaboration for educators and providing extra support for high-degree educators to enhance their collegial behavior. Additional resources may be needed to bolster the collegiality competence of educators with significant responsibilities.

This study aims to evaluate the opinions of faculty members about the effects of social media in education. The research was carried out as a qualitative study, and phenomenological design was used in the study. We selected a total of 36 faculty members to participate in an interview about their perceptions of social media effects on education. The results showed that most faculty members think that social media is an effective educational tool. In the context of the positive aspects, the role of social media in higher education is indicated as a support tool, a follow-up tool for educational activities, an entertaining platform, communication tool, resource, learning management tool and a guide. According to the findings, more than half of the academics think that the role of social media in education is positive. The study predicts that social media will have different roles in future education with the increasing number of users every day.

This study examined how science identity and positive educational outcomes relate to student trainees’ decision to pursue a research career in health-related sciences, within the context of a two-year research training program that prepares diverse undergraduate students for a research career. In analyses using the evaluation data, science identity and one of the positive educational outcomes significantly predicted trainees’ decision to pursue a research career in biomedical and behavioral sciences. In general, students with stronger science identity and interest in pursuing research in academia exhibited a firmer decision to pursue a research career in sciences. In a separate analysis that examined the associations between the trainees’ decision to pursue a health-related research career and their underrepresented minority identities, gender, and disciplinary track, results revealed that: (1) the interaction between trainees’ disciplinary track (i.e., biomedical vs. behavioral sciences) and their underrepresented minority status was associated with their decision to pursue a research career, but (2) the gender x disciplinary track interaction was not. Emphasizing the need for supporting diverse undergraduate trainees to solidify their science identity and preparing them for a research career in academia, we discuss implications of our findings for research training programs with similar aims.

Based on previous studies, it was hypothesized that the personal background of students, including previous qualifications and work experience, may be one factor affecting their perceptions of interprofessional education. In a cross-sectional study, the associations between students’ (N = 149) gender, major subject, previous degrees, and interprofessional work experience, perceptions of interprofessional education, and appraisal of members of their own profession in interprofessional cooperation were examined. According to the most noteworthy results, having more interprofessional work experience and a previous degree from a university of applied sciences was associated with perceiving interprofessional studies to be more useful. Moreover, having less interprofessional work experience was associated with perceiving members of one’s own profession more positively regarding interprofessional cooperation. It is suggested that also these background variables are considered when designing and implementing interprofessional education.

Road drainage is vital for the safety and longevity of transportation infrastructure. Designing effective drainage facilities, including culverts, requires a precise understanding of discharge-frequency relationships. Culverts, which allow water to flow beneath roads, must consider various engineering and environmental factors. In Ghana, the Ghana Highway Authority expects culvert designs to meet peak flow specifications, but evaluating the design flood of each culvert is time-consuming. Typically, drainage culvert designs rely on estimations, which can lead to inappropriate sizes. This study aimed to assess the adequacy of existing cross culverts and propose suitable sizes for inefficient ones on the Sakpeigu-Chereponi road (7+700-7+750) in the Yendi municipality. The study employed integrated GIS and hydrological models to delineate and estimate peak flow using the modified rational method. The catchment for the scheduled culverts was delineated, with a peak flow of 44.552 m3/s for a 25-year design period. However, the combined capacity (32.066 m3/s) of the scheduled culvert sizes was insufficient, resulting in an excess discharge of 12.486 m3/s. A new culvert schedule was proposed, featuring a 3m X 3m box culvert with a capacity of 70.148 m3/s for the entire section (7+100 - 7+750) to address the inadequacy.

In Ghana, the Ghana Highway Authority expects culvert designs to meet peak flow specifications, but evaluating the design flood of each culvert is time-consuming. Typically, drainage culvert designs rely on estimations, which can lead to inappropriate sizes. This study aimed to assess the adequacy of existing cross culverts and propose suitable sizes for inefficient ones on the Sakpeigu-Chereponi road (7+700-7+750) in the Yendi municipality. The study employed integrated GIS and hydrological models to delineate and estimate peak flow using the modified rational method. The catchment for the scheduled culverts was delineated, with a peak flow of 44.552 m3/s for a 25-year design period. However, the combined capacity (32.066 m3/s) of the scheduled culvert sizes was insufficient, resulting in an excess discharge of 12.486 m3/s. The widespread use of mobile platforms has resulted in significant challenges related to power constraints and the Quality of Service(QoS) provided by Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The examination of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is of significant importance in comprehending and enhancing the design of OFDM systems. The utilization of wireless technology in everyday life has experienced a gradual and consistent growth. OFDM is a prevalent technique for multicarrier transmission, which effectively utilizes parallel data streams. OFDM is considered an effective technique for achieving high-speed digital transmission over channels that exhibit time-varying characteristics. OFDM has several advantages compared to single carrier modulation. These include enhanced resistance to impulsive interference, increased spectral density, improved resilience to channel fading, greater tolerance to multipath effects, and reduced computational complexity. Nevertheless, OFDM has some notable challenges that hinder its practical use in telecommunications networks. Several examples of these are packet loss, bit loss, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), BER, and SNR. This research aims to investigate the BER and SNR performance of OFDM in the presence of Rician Fading Channel. The study also explores the impact of different modulation techniques on the performance of OFDM.
