The paper aims to determine the role of the “Novy Mir” magazine and its editor-in-chief A. T. Tvardovsky and some writers who adhered to liberalism in the conditions of the prevailing social culture of the cult of personality and the no-conflict theory in the early 20th century in the renewal of Soviet literature of the 1950s-1960s. The study is novel in that the author establishes the fact of the beginning of the “thaw” period in Soviet culture, which emerged when Tvardovsky ran the magazine in the light of the development of ideas about the conflict-free nature of Soviet literature. The paper indicates that the works describing noble heroism no longer resonated with the readers, there was a significant turn towards realistic literature. As the editor-in-chief of the “Novy Mir” magazine, Tvardovsky introduced readers to the concepts of literary authenticity, freedom and equality, which greatly stimulated the reform of Soviet literature. As a result, it has been revealed that the “Novy Mir” magazine not only influenced the development of the USSR literature of the 1950s-1960s, but also contributed to the formation of the “thaw” period in the Soviet literary process.

The study aims to describe the current linguistic state of the phonetic features characterising the Gaina subdialect of the northwestern dialect of the Bashkir language involving the material collected in the Bardymsky district of Perm Krai. The study is novel in that it is the first in Bashkir linguistics to consider the features of the Gaina subdialect in a comprehensive manner using the example of the Bardymsky district of Perm Krai, as well as taking into account the impact of socio-economic and socio-political changes on the spiritual culture of the above-mentioned subject of the Russian Federation. As a result of analysing the oral linguistic material collected from residents of more than thirty settlements in the Bardymsky district of Perm Krai, it has been found that the language of the Gaina people is very distinctive and differs significantly from dialects of the Bashkir and Tatar languages in terms of preservation of ancient linguistic features, especially phonetic and morphological ones. The phonetic and orthoepic features of the subdialect include such phenomena as the narrowing of wide vowels in the positions of a stressed checked syllable, less often also in a free syllable, sounds alternations, both of vowels and consonants, reduction, prothesis, epenthesis, labialisation, palatal harmony loss (when certain affixes are attached to words and in the process of elision), dropping of sounds, positional length of vowels.

The aim of the study is to identify and describe the communication strategies and tactics that are used by the Russian executive authorities in a digital dialogue with citizens. The scientific novelty of the study is accounted for by the elaboration of the “digital discourse of executive authorities” notion and the description of the communication strategies and tactics implemented in this discourse. Based on a new material, i.e., a sample of posts of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Perm Territory posted on the VKontakte social network, an analysis of typical strategies and tactics aimed at forming a positive image of the executive authorities is carried out. It is shown that the speech strategy of self-presentation is the main one in the media communication of the authorities with citizens. This strategy receives concrete expression in the tactics of analysis-plus, presentation of an event, self-justification. By involving Engagement Rate by Reach, the pragmatic effect of speech influence on the audience is revealed. As a result, it is proved that the effectiveness of the dialogue between the executive authorities and society is due to the influence of the following discourse factors: coinciding presuppositions of the addressee and the addresser, due regard for the needs of the target audience in the content, reflection of significant social life events in the published materials.

The study aims to identify the characteristics of evaluative names that form the paradigm of the axiological field of the memorial media portrait of a cinema legend. The study was carried out using the material of a special issue of the journal “Le Figaro Hommage” published in September 2021 in connection with the passing of the French cinema legend Jean-Paul Belmondo – “Le Magnifique. Jean-Paul Belmondo 1933/2021”. The paper presents a systematic analysis of a set of names that create the axiological field of the memorial media portrait of the cinema legend. The study is novel in that it is the first to take a multilevel approach to analysing various types of names of a French film star presented in the micro-, macro- and hyper-context. Attention is paid to the lexico-semantic aspect of the names, their usage as part of different stylistic devices, as well as their role in the system of references that extend the axiological space of the media portrait of the cinema legend beyond the boundaries of articles and the entire special issue dedicated to Belmondo. The results show that the memorial media portrait of the cinema legend represents an archetypal phenomenon in which an idealised image of the screen star is formed with the help of a set of naming units.

The aim of this research is to clarify the typology and relationship of grammatical structures and metaphorical expressions within Chinese idioms. In this study, a corpus of 30,000 Chinese idioms was compiled from various idiom dictionaries, and 1,000 idioms were randomly selected, annotated, and categorized based on their internal syntactic structures, grammatical functions in sentences, metaphor types, and metaphorical content for statistical analysis. The innovation of the research lies in employing a corpus to conduct a quantitative analysis of the prevalent syntactic structures and the most common types of metaphorical usage found in Chinese idioms, as well as to explore the quantified relationships between them. The findings reveal that Parallel Structure, Attributive Structure, and Subject-Predicate Structure are the most prevalent internal syntactic structures of Chinese idioms, while the structural metaphor is the most widely used conceptual metaphor. However, no significant correlation was observed between the internal syntactic structure of Chinese idioms and metaphorical content, grammatical function in sentences.

The study focuses on German-language lifestyle blogs, which are being considered from the perspective of their authors’ self-presentation and presentation of their lifestyle. The aim of the study is to determine some of the ways used by the authors of German-language lifestyle blogs to implement the communication strategy of self-presentation. The paper discusses the genre features of lifestyle blogs, which serve as a platform for a certain lifestyle, defines the strategy of self-presentation as the leading communication strategy of this type of Internet blogs and highlights some tactics for implementing this strategy. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that based on the material of a German lifestyle blog, a number of speech tactics for implementing the self-presentation strategy have been identified for the first time. As a result, it has been proved that the speech tactics of conveying objective and subjective information, conveying information from a third person, using a promoted image, demonstrating competence and uniting with the addressee serve to effectively implement the blogger’s self-presentation strategy.

The aim of the study is to prove the metaphoric character of the terminological system of English biological and medical scientific discourse. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the author’s approach to the analysis and interpretation of the ‘host’ metaphor from the position of the fractal paradigm in metaphorology. As a result of the study, it has been revealed that the primary name of the word ‘host’ contained a positive heuristic based on creating an image of a hospitable host in order to obtain benefits. But the evolution of the name has led to a change of positive heuristics to a negative one and a change in the stylistic significance of the metaphor. The initially occasional metaphor became a trite one and contributed to the emergence of the medical and biological term. It has been found that the semiodynamics of the word ‘host’ affects the change in the stylistic significance of the metaphor and manifests itself in metaphorical mapping when the concepts FRIEND and ENEMY, FRIEND and FOE interact in the cognitive space of the COEXISTENCE concept. It has been found and proved that the evolution of the metaphor, fractal in nature, manifests itself in the transfer of the same name from the HOSPITALITY concept to the DAMAGE concept.

The aim of the research is to describe the functional features and categorical differences of personal proper names (anthroponyms) in the construction of the nominative-predicative aspect of the literary dictema. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the identification of the structural-textual functions of personal proper names in relation to their etymological meaning, as well as in the extended examination of the organisation of the nominative and predicative aspects of the dictema. The investigation of linguistic units within the semantic field of the dictema is conducted using authentic texts of English fiction. The paper discusses the functional features of a personal proper name as an informative and significant unit of text that serves to establish semantic connections in the seminal aspects of speech within the literary dictema. Within the framework of the dictemic approach to the study of personal proper names, typical groups of anthroponyms have been identified, which form a specific kind of nominative-predicative centre in relation to the given mental trajectory of objective reality. As a result, the research shows that the appellative bases of anthroponyms are capable not only of denoting events, which allows associating this phenomenon with the nominative part of the dictema, but also of participating in the construction of the predicative aspect, i.e., indicating the reality and unreality of actions in the author’s imagined world and directly in the interpretation of the reader.

The study aims to identify the features of ethnocultural connotative polysemy formation for artistic names in the English language within the framework of the linguoculturological orientation of the cognitive approach. The paper examines connotative polysemy as a result of a multi-vector secondary interpretation of English-language artistic names determined by both linguistic and extralinguistic factors. The scientific novelty lies in investigating the phenomenon of connotative polysemy from cognitive positions as a result of derivational naming processes occurring due to perspectivization of various cognitive features. The phenomenon of ethnoconnotation is considered as an ontological property of linguistic units, a potency that can be realized by native speakers in the process of communication. It is the first time that the material of the English language has been used to identify the usual and potential polysemous artistic names with ethnoconnotation. As a result, it has been proved that perspectivization, the foregrounding of a certain section of the frame, serves as an explanatory basis for the examination of the mechanism of generation of connotative meanings. Artistic names can potentially implement an unlimited number of cultural connotations, which indicates their content capacity and relevance for native speakers, as well as the creative nature of language activities in general.

The aim of the study is to identify the semantic and pragmatic features of the representation of a man’s appearance by the naming unit дядя ‘uncle’ in modern Russian. The scientific novelty of the paper consists in an attempt to present the features of implementation of the lexico-semantic variant ‘an unrelated male with certain physical characteristics’ of the word ‘uncle’ to create a complete lexicographic portrait of the word дядя based on a systemic integral approach involving the language material of the Russian National Corpus. As a result, it has been found that the specified lexico-semantic variant of the word дядя shows a low frequency in modern Russian, it was most actively used in the 1930s. In the composition of the considered lexico-semantic variant, there are three semes: ‘height’, ‘physique’ and ‘strength’, this variant in most cases is realised with the help of their combinations, the most frequent one being ‘height’ + ‘physique’. Dictionary data is not always supported by language material: the attribute сильный ‘strong’ proposed by most dictionaries shows a low frequency in the language material. The implementation of the lexico-semantic variant under consideration always occurs explicitly with the help of lexical, stylistic, grammatical (morphological (affixation) and syntactic (parcelling)) and punctuation (commas between the attributes that the author considers homogeneous) means.
