In this article I argue for the continuity of Sartre's theory of alienation. Therefore, I will depict how the concept of 'alienation' is further developed by Sartre since his early writings, by discussing the different forms of alienation in his late oeuvre and in his works on moral philosophy. First, I will take up the differenciation of individual and social alienation and, furthermore, I will discuss Sartre's radicalized form of alienation, which is beyond pure forms of exploitation or recurrence and was not discussed in the literature, yet. I will connect Sartres theory of value in his "L'Être et le Néant" with the theory of alienation in his "Cahiers pour une Moral" and the "Critique de la Raison dialectique".

Tradition is a complex phenomenon of which we can find a multiplicity of conceptualizations in the philosophical, sociological, anthropological, and economic literature. In this paper, I offer both a critical and a constructive contribution to answering the question of how tradition should be conceptualized. In the critical part, I argue against attempts to construct a unified conception of tradition. In the constructive part, I discuss three taxonomies proposed in the literature and then develop an analytical grid for conceptions of tradition as an alternative. This analytical grid is based on a sample of 28 accounts of tradition sourced from the contemporary scholarly literature, and makes use of seven dimensions to distinguish among these conceptions.

Philosophical theories of the good life usually focus on at least one of three as- pects by which a human life can be assessed: well-being, meaning or morality. This paper seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the idea of meaning in life. It argues that the dimension of meaning in a human life is conditioned by time; an idea which has so far not been sufficiently considered. Firstly, Susan Wolf's approach is presented, in which meaning is understood to be comple- tely "timeless". Next, based on considerations by Cheshire Calhoun and Antti Kauppinen, it is discussed why and how one should include temporal aspects so that one obtains an understanding of meaning that is "time-relative". Lastly, a concept of meaning that is "time-constituted" is outlined, which makes clear that a temporal reference structure is a condition for all meaning in life.
