Assessment of Satisfaction Level for Existing Public Transport Systems using Machine Learning: A Case of Bhopal (India) 利用机器学习评估现有公共交通系统的满意度:以印度博帕尔为例

Most people are now highly dependent on private motorize travel because of the low Satisfaction level of public transit modes. This leads to poor public transit share in most of the cities in India. This study is intended to identifying the influencing parameters; those affect the satisfaction level of a PT mode, and also develop a model for assessing the Satisfaction Level of these public transport modes in Bhopal, India. A Machine Learning-based approach is used to analyze 1189 responses from the user. It classifies data in various dimensions that shape customers satisfaction among each mode of public transport (i.e. BRTS, Mini-Buses and Magic-Van service) and develops a model for evaluating the overall satisfaction of these PT modes in Bhopal. An On-board opinion surveys were done for identifying the parameters which influence the Satisfaction of these PT modes and also develop a model for evaluating the Satisfaction of these modes. Based on the literature, Delphi survey and opinion survey, eight parameters have been identified that influence the satisfaction level of these modes in Bhopal. Further by correlation matrix, most influencing parameters (key parameters) were considered amongst them for evaluating the satisfaction level for these modes. To determine the coefficient values acting from each of the respective elementary scores, we used a trained linear regression, multilinear regression, considering the classification of customers who assessed the performance of their satisfaction. This model will help to increase the Satisfaction of these PT Modes which result to increase the transit ridership in Bhopal. Adopted methodology in this study can help decision-makers to improve public transport services so that transit ridership can be improved.

The evaluation of the mobility of the Sport infrastructures associated with Mega Events (SMEs), as football stadiums, and, in particular, the modal choices adopted by participants, are the focus of this study. Mobility, geographical aspects and urban planning that characterize a city hosting the SME are the main fields of investigation. In particular, in Italy there is a limited collaborative convergence among technical and scientific principles and the rules expressed by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), to which an obsolete regulation for the accessibility of sports facilities refers. The progressive awareness of the communities on the fundamental role of sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, reduction of air pollution, also deriving from the impulse of the 2030 objectives, highlights how it is illusory to think of reaching them without gradual changes in the lifestyle of the communities themselves through political rules of urban development. Furthermore, the pandemic and the recent energy crisis highlighted the need to develop integrated systems - considering geographical, urban and regional planning, transport and mobility issues capable of innovating to improve planning activities and the quality of urban life.

Price elasticity of fuel demand: an econometric approach 燃料需求的价格弹性:计量经济学方法

The purpose of this paper is to quantify, through the use of Bayesian VAR (BVAR) econometric models, the elasticity of demand for automotive fuels (gasoline, diesel and liquid propane gas - LPG) in response to a shock in both their respective prices at the pump and other and other variables that affect the production of these commodities (such oil price, exchange rate etc.). The data used consist of time series on consumption and prices of the goods described above as of January 2002 for Italy. First, the existing literature, which focuses mainly on Anglo-Saxon countries, was analysed in order to obtain terms of comparison that would allow a comparison between the results obtained (described below) and the aforementioned similar studies. Second, after a description of the data used and their contextualization to the Italian case, the econometric approach used to estimate elasticities is described. The consequences of in terms of policy are interesting, since these are goods with rigid demand, little susceptible to price changes (whether induced by a change in the price of crude oil or a change in the excise rates in force in the country) and substantially characterized by a certain stability over the years. The analysis displays also the response of the above-mentioned fuels to Brent’s price shocks, delivering as additional result that these fuels are very sensitive to the fluctuations of their raw material whose price’s increase is capable of generating a bottleneck in the global value chain imposing negative shifts in the quantity consumed and an increase in price of the fuels analysed

An Examination of the Land Use Determinants of Travel: A Case Study of Calicut City in India 旅游的土地利用决定因素研究:以印度卡利卡特市为例

Several travel studies focus mainly on mode shifting. Again, most travel studies have focused on mandatory trips. But the influence of land use on travel is rarely verified in all these studies. This paper examines the influence of land use measures on travel in a medium-sized city, India. The travel characteristics like number of trips, person-km and person-hr of travel by various modes and for various purposes are analysed separately. Land use is characterised by population density, employment density, land use intensity, land use mix and accessibility. During the modelling process, the explanatory variables are subjected to transformation to get over the nonlinearity issue. Statistical analysis reveals that a balanced mix of various land use activities causes people to travel less by any mode and for any purpose. Such studies can help the city planners formulate effective transport policies to improve the quality of transport within the city.

Analysis of Critical Gap and Capacity at Skewed Uncontrolled Intersections 倾斜非受控交叉口临界间隙及通行能力分析

Critical gaps and capacity of movements at uncontrolled intersections are influenced by intersection geometry, especially in mixed traffic conditions. However, existing models to compute the capacity of uncontrolled base intersections are only suitable for intersections with 00 to 100 skew angles. This study aims to bridge the gap by evaluating the effect of skew angle on the critical gap and capacity of uncontrolled intersections. The critical gap models are developed for different vehicle types. The capacity of uncontrolled intersections is determined for different skew angles (00 to 270) using simulation and Indo-HCM models. The comparison reveals that the Indo-HCM model over-predicts the capacities. Thus, new capacity models are proposed, and it is observed that the capacity varies as a quadratic function of the skew angle, where the constant indicates base capacity. This study also provides the adjustment factors for Indo-HCM capacity models to deduce the capacity of any skew-angled intersections.

Every year, road accidents cost billions of dollars and injure millions of people around the world. The current study implements traffic conflict techniques to examine vehicular safety at three-arm uncontrolled intersections. The traffic conflict technique is designed to be proactive, not solely rely on crashes, and require shorter observation time periods to create acceptable safety assessments. Various surrogate safety measures based on spatial and temporal proximity between road users, like Post Encroachment Time (PET), Time to Collision (TTC), Deceleration Rate (DR), etc., are being used to study road safety. The study focused on crossing conflicts by right-turning and through traffic, as they are considered severe among other conflicts. PET and conflicting vehicle speeds in through traffic are used to determine critical conflicts. However, Delta V and Encroachment Time (ET) are taken as surrogate indicators to identify severity levels of through and right turning movements, respectively, using the clustering technique..

The planning and management of underground public transport is a central challenge for industrialized countries. Since an increasing number of human activities is polarized in metropolitan areas, the effort put into the digitalization for management of the underground lifelines is growing. This paper presents an innovative methodology (SCANtoBIM) to carry out digitization, inspection, and diagnostics of existing underground tunnels to obtain a digital model without disruptions. The multi-dimensional survey system (ARCHITA) allows for collecting data about the tunnel geometry, structural, and functional conditions. Data digitalization and analysis give as-built CAD models and Building Information Models (BIMs). Within the framework of the Management and Identification of the Risk for Existing Tunnels, the proposed process helps the infrastructure manager during the facility service life. The workflow for the digitalization and diagnosis from mobile mapping data has been implemented to obtain a BIM model representing more than 40 km-long metro tunnels.

Artificial Neural Network for Analyzing the Customer’s Perceived Service Quality and Satisfaction of Online Cab Services 基于人工神经网络的在线出租车用户感知服务质量与满意度分析

India has been witnessing rapid growth in travel with the occurrence of online cab service especially in urban sector. The high demand for transport service and lack of good quality of public transport has given the opportunity to many cab aggregators to gain customers. People go for cab because it offers desirable comfort, flexibility and privacy. It also helps to avoid problem like parking issues. Hence, it’s important to assess the aspects that the customer/user is looking for the most while hailing an online cab service. To study the relationship of service quality attributes with overall satisfaction of the cab users, a web-based survey was conducted in Tiruchirappalli and Pune city. This paper proposes the use of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to analyze perceived service quality of online cab users and to find out the attributes of importance a customer consider while hailing an online cab service. Model developed show that the attributes like safety, waiting time, driver behavior, comfort, cleanliness and trust on driver are some of the variables that have relatively higher influence on overall satisfaction.

A Comparison of KNN Algorithm and MNL Model for Mode Choice Modelling 模式选择建模中KNN算法与MNL模型的比较

Mode choice modelling helps to identify potential users of traffic and plays an important role in policy and decision-making by the government. With the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, several studies were carried out to analyse the performance of mode choice models in which the backpropagation algorithm was used. However, for faster convergence of parameters, it would be interesting to explore other efficient algorithms of machine learning as the conjugated gradient search in spite of the backpropagation algorithm. The present study adds to the literature about the performance of the K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN) algorithm in mode choice modelling and compared the KNN model with the traditional MNL model. It was unveiled that the variables, which are found significant and important in both models are the same. It is also found that the KNN model is outperforming MNL with a prediction accuracy of 73.84%.

Evaluating the appropriate fuel-based bus technology in Indian context by integrating Fuzzy AHP-Fuzzy TOPSIS 运用模糊层次分析法和模糊TOPSIS法对印度的燃油客车技术进行综合评价

According to WHO, India's transportation sector accounts for 11% of its CO2 emissions. Sustainable energy-based bus transportation systems are a necessity in Indian context. However, factors like capital cost, refueling infrastructure, etc. are also important as most State Road Transport Undertakings (SRTUs) are operating in severe losses. This study evaluates the most effective fuel-based bus transport system in the Indian context through the comparative analysis of electric buses, hydrogen fuel cell buses, compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, and conventional diesel buses. Multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) approach was employed through the use of Fuzzy AHP-Fuzzy TOPSIS tool. Electric buses were found to be the best alternative, and the stakeholders placed less importance on noise levels and rated the initial cost of buying a bus, tailpipe emissions, and operating costs as major determining parameters. The findings may help national and state-level decision-making agencies in planning for the future sustainable bus systems.
