Since 1980s, there has been an “ethical turn” in translation research, translation ethics research has not only focused on specific translation strategies and techniques, but also shifted its attention to the ethics behind the choices of translators. Unlike professional translators, scholar-translators are responsible for studying the original works, authors, and even the source language and culture, so their ethics behind their translation choices are more complex than professional translators’. Therefore, this study intends to analyze the translation strategies adopted by James Legge, a scholar-translator, at the linguistic and cultural levels, and to explore the ethical models of translation followed by him when he translated Confucian Analects. According to the analysis on Legge’s version of Confucian Analects, it can be concluded that “Faith” is the foundation of a scholar-translator’s translation ethics.

The study of the explanatory power of Government and Binding Theory for Chinese is popular. It’s worth noting that Empty Category constitutes an integral part in the Government and Binding Theory proposed by Chomsky. Taking the Empty Category Theory as the example, referring to A Dream in Red Mansions as the data, this paper is going to research the existing, distributing and inherent laws of Empty Category in pivotal sentence. Theta theory is the theoretical foundation for Empty Category that exists in the pivotal sentence. The empty category, which is produced from D-structure, is classified into proforma in the pivotal sentence.
政府与约束理论对汉语的解释力研究很受欢迎。值得注意的是,空范畴是乔姆斯基提出的 "政府与约束理论 "的重要组成部分。本文以空范畴理论为例,以《红楼梦》为资料,研究关键句中空范畴的存在、分布及其内在规律。Theta 理论是枢纽句中存在的空范畴的理论基础。由 D 结构产生的空范畴在枢纽句中被归类为 proforma。

From power dynamics to urban stratification, Pedro Almodóvar’s What Have I Done to Deserve This? (1984) and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (2019) dialogue in the same language: the universality of their cities. Even though the films are located in a specific space and time (Madrid in the 1980s and Seoul in the 2010s), their messages and criticisms are one and ecumenical: what happens in Spain and South Korea can happen anywhere else in the world. Thus, despite the different countries, languages, and times in which they were filmed, the present paper will delve into the analysis and comparison between ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto! and Gisaengchung, covering topics such as US acculturation, social immobility, and urban landscapes and their impact on social classes.

In recent days, more and more Chinese films and TV series including political-themed TV series are aired internationally and have received extensive attention with the improvement of the quality of Chinese audiovisual works. Such political-themed TV works are produced to reflect social realities and include the bulk of political terminology such as official titles and institution names as well as concepts related to newly-mentioned political terms and slogans, which may be quite unfamiliar to foreign audience. Therefore, audiovisual translation and subtitling play an important role in avoiding misunderstanding. Although a striking number of studies on subtitle translation have been made, these analyses appear to emphasize more on the verbal mode instead of different multimodal contexts. Guided by the theory of multimodal discourse analysis, this paper is aimed to analyze the characteristics of the subtitle translation of China’s politicalthemed TV series in terms of content, conversation and social semiotic levels by building a micro-corpus based on the research materials of the knockout. This paper will discuss not only the translation of interlingual subtitles for dialogues or monologues, but also that of other captions shown on the screen such as voiceover and images of shop signboards, in order to point out the shortcomings and provide reference for further relevant studies.

As an important representative of the oral culture of the Qiang nationality, Shibi-Drama has accumulated the long history and culture of the Qiang people. From the perspective of cross-cultural communication, the English translation of ethnic minority classics such as Qiang Shibi-Drama should not only respect the local knowledge tradition of the ethnic group, but also fully consider the cultural appeals of the target language. Therefore, we are supposed to comprehensively use a myriad of translation strategies and means to activate cultural interaction through the way of interculturality and maximize the transmission of the national cultural factors of the Qiang nationality.

Cultural identity and ideology have a dialectical relationship of common origin, internal contract and mutual promotion. At present, China’s ideological field is facing the invasion and influence of multiculturalism, various social trends and weak expressions of discourse. Therefore, it is necessary to respond to the challenges with the power of cultural identity, to gather ideological consensus by promoting the core values of socialism, to innovate the expression of ideological discourse with excellent traditional culture, and to promote ideological identity with cultural identity, so as to further consolidate our ideological security.

This study examines the narration of A Tale of Two Cities (A Tale) to demonstrate that this work of fiction was influenced by and represents how readers of weekly journals from the mid-nineteenth century perceived the world. At this time, editors of English weekly journals began using the telegraph and special correspondents alongside other means of communication. This enabled them to regularly provide readers with information from distant lands faster than before. This acceleration of information developed the perception among readers that weekly journals reported recent events and new information on a weekly basis A Tale, a serialized work published weekly in a weekly journal beside journalistic reports, conformed its narration to this newly created perception. The narrator of A Tale, who is referred to by the singular “they” in this paper, is not involved in the story and knows everything about it. However, they switch the narrated scenes in the novel between issues of the journal as if the story were an on-site report. They stray from this behaviour only once and switch the scene within one issue, but this seemingly exceptional case was based on the weekly journals’ principle of reporting news swiftly. They are portrayed as being well informed about the real world and the specific period when A Tale was published. This contrivance makes it seem consistent that the fictional narrator uses the perception that was developed in the real world.

As the subject of translation activities, translators have been neglected for a long time. The translator’s subjectivity and creativity have a profound influence on the interpretation of the core content of his works. Taking the multiple translation understandings of the word ideology in Ideology as an example, based on a detailed explanation of the concept of translator’s subjectivity, this paper discusses the factors that restrict the exertion of translator’s subjectivity and how to give full play to the translator’s subjectivity more appropriately, which is conducive to improve the conformity between English translation and Marx’s original philosophical works, and at the same time making excellent philosophical works of truth spread to the world.

In many ways, modern pervasive culture has a huge impact on how our community thinks, and like all written material, comic books are a big part of this cultural environment. Since the 1960s, we’ve been fed a steady diet of made-up superheroes from comic books and movies. Their characters have become part of our everyday lives, yet it’s vital to think about the role superheroes play in our culture and how they’ve taken God’s place as a source of motivation and hope. In this paper, I will look at how superheroes have taken the position of God in contemporary culture, as well as the causes and effects of this trend.
