Purpose: This study aims to analyse the influence of dynamic environments on technology and market-sensing capability. It also aims to examine the influence of technology and market-sensing capability on innovation performance. Besides, it aims to explore the influence of innovation performance on the organisation’s financial performance. It also aims to examine the influence of technology and market-sensing capability on the organisation’s financial performance. Design/methodology/approach: The research model was tested using a structural equation modelling design based on survey data from 183 Saudi companies from different sectors, used by software (SPSS v. 28 and SmartPLS v. 4). Findings: This study shows that dynamic environments strongly influence both financial and innovation performance. However, this study shows that innovation performance does not directly affect financial performance. Furthermore, this study shows that dynamic environments strongly influence both technology and market-sensing capability. Likewise, this study shows that both technology and market-sensing capability strongly influence financial performance. However, this study shows that both technology and market-sensing capability do not directly affect innovation performance. Originality/value: This study has demonstrated that dynamic environments will have a direct effect on the financial performance of companies by compelling them to allocate their resources more strategically and flexibly in order to adapt to the changing and unpredictable conditions of dynamic environments. Moreover, this study has also demonstrated that dynamic environments will have a direct effect on the technology and market-sensing capability of organisations. This will motivate organisations to gather and analyse information about customers, competitors, and market trends, and to use this information to identify and exploit opportunities for innovation, differentiation, and value creation for customers and stakeholders. In addition to the previous findings, this study has also shown that dynamic environments will improve the technology and market-sensing capability of organisations. This will inspire organisations to collect and analyse information about the needs, preferences, and behaviours of customers, the strategies, actions, and strengths of competitors, and the trends, opportunities, and threats of the market, and to use this information to recognize and leverage opportunities for innovation, differentiation, and value creation for customers and stakeholders. Furthermore, this capability allows organisations to use their dynamic capabilities to innovate with their resources and competencies, which are essential for gaining competitive advantage and superior performance in dynamic environments.

Digital transformation is a core weapon to promote the sustainable development of environmental service enterprises. This research presents a pioneering analysis of the primary sources and internal mechanisms underlying the performance impact of digital transformation in Chinese listed environmental service companies from 2009 to 2019. The empirical results show that digital transformation can significantly improve firm performance. Furthermore, digital products, digital operations and digital talent were found to have the most significant effect, while digital services and digital marketing have a weaker effect. The mediating effect demonstrates that digital transformation can indirectly promote the performance of environmental service enterprises by improving the green technology innovation, and this influence tends to strengthen. In addition, this performance effect is affected by different enterprise types, with the effect being more pronounced in state-owned enterprises than in private enterprises. These findings have important guiding significance for the intelligent development of environmental service industry.

Drawing on the Conservation of Resources and Social Exchange Theories, this study examines the relationship between employee engagement for innovation (EEI) and innovative performance (IP) through discretionary efforts (DE) and knowledge sharing (KS). We collected data from 202 peer dyads of 15 universities in Pakistan and used SmartPLS 4 for hypotheses testing. Results indicated a significant positive relationship between EEI, DE, KS and IP. In contrast, mediation mechanism via DE and KS did not show the expected mediation effects. This outcome can be attributed to the unique socio-cultural context in which we collected the data. This work focussed on employees working in a collectivist culture within a patriarchal society, where traditional hierarchical structures and values influence the dynamics between EEI, DE, KS and IP. We also discuss the theoretical and practical implications and the directions for future research.

This study examines the influence of environmental commitment (EC) on Tunisian firms’ export intensity and utilising the resource-based view (RBV) framework. Using firm-level data from the 2020 World Bank Enterprise Survey (WBES), it explores the direct and indirect effects of EC on export intensity through product and process innovation. The findings highlight that EC plays a crucial role in fostering both product and process innovation, underscoring its strategic significance in driving overall innovation within firms. Additionally, EC and product innovation are identified as key factors positively contributing to exports, emphasising the importance of a strong EC orientation and a focus on product innovation for enhancing export activities. Notably, the presence of quality certification influences the relationship between EC and process innovation, weakening the impact of EC in that context. This finding underscores the nuanced dynamics between EC, process innovation, and quality certification. Overall, this study highlights EC as a strategic approach for enhancing firm innovation and promoting export orientation, providing empirical evidence and insights derived from the specific context of Tunisia. Embracing EC and aligning it with innovation and export strategies enables firms and policymakers to foster sustainable growth, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to a greener and more inclusive future.

This study explores the impact of shared leadership on project success through the role of organisational innovativeness (OI) as mediator and knowledge sharing as moderator. Data were collected from a sample of 202 project directors, engineers and managers working in project-based organisations across Pakistan through a structured questionnaire. The target sample was approached through LinkedIn. Partial least structure equation modelling technique was used for the data analysis. The study finds a significant positive association between shared leadership and project success. The mediating role of OI between shared leadership and project success was also supported by the results. However, knowledge sharing did not mediate the relationship between shared leadership and project success. The findings of this study imply that shared leadership shows an imperative role in dealing with complex situations and critical decision-making circumstances that arise during the project execution directly as well as through the intervening mechanism of OI towards project success. This study significantly contributes to facilitating academician and researchers to further investigate the role of human factors toward project success. In addition, this study has significant implications for practitioners in facilitating them to increase the chances of project success in an efficient manner.

Open innovation (OI) events are potent instruments for the development of dynamic ecosystems. However, the literature analyses the structure and mechanisms of OI events insufficiently to demonstrate their efficacy, making it difficult to justify the investments necessary for their success. With better data confirming their impact, funding for OI events should improve by becoming more accessible and, therefore, more conducive to efficient value creation. This regional study contributes to the literature on innovation ecosystems and field-configuring events by responding to the call for more effective measures of OI events to coordinate and improve the ecosystems’ overall competitiveness. Based on an analysis of six in-depth case studies, 28 semi-structured interviews, and secondary sources, we identify 54 best practices and 34 indicators of an event’s success for various actor types. Moreover, we suggest 11 measures of the short- and long-term impacts of an event on its ecosystem.

The aim of this study is to analyse how firms combining the use of all types of innovation during a certain period differ from other firms. Zhang (2022) argues that side-by-side innovation practices are understudied in the innovation literature. The paper is based on the OECD typology of innovation (product, process, marketing and organisational). This study offers a new and timely perspective on the innovation literature by examining firms’ side-by-side innovation practices, which are understudied in the innovation literature. The paper is based on data from 387 Finnish SMEs and analyses the factors related to the innovativeness of SMEs. The research provides comprehensive information on how different factors contribute to the emergence of SME innovation practices and create competitive combinations of their resources in the form of side-by-side implementation of different types of innovation.

The research provides comprehensive information on how different factors contribute to the emergence of SME innovation practices and create competitive combinations of their resources in the form of side-by-side implementation of different types of innovation.","PeriodicalId":47711,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2023-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45956870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines the influence of socioemotional wealth (SEW) dimensions on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and innovation performance in family firms. Based on an analysis of a dataset comprising 145 family firms, our findings provide evidence that SEW positively moderates the association between EO and innovation performance. Notably, the dimension ([Formula: see text]) emotional attachment of family members within SEW solely drives this interaction effect. Surprisingly, none of the other dimensions exhibit a significant moderating effect on the entrepreneurial orientation–innovation performance relationship. Furthermore, the overall moderation is substantially more pronounced for multidimensional SEW than for unidimensional SEW. Our findings challenge the results of previous studies on the entrepreneurial orientation–performance relationship in family firms, which considered SEW as unidimensional. Finally, we discuss implications for corporate entrepreneurship as well as SEW literature and provide directions for future research.
