Accessible behavioral interventions for improving weight loss outcomes are needed for overweight and obese individuals. This systematic review was conducted between 2010 through January 2020 to evaluate the use of mobile technology (mHealth) versus Web-based interventions (eHealth) and weight loss outcomes (weight loss, body fat, waist circumference) with or without individualized clinician feedback. Thirteen randomized controlled trials (7 [mHealth] and 6 [eHealth]) and 1 cohort (mHealth) met the inclusion criteria. The use of both methods with clinician feedback was positively associated with percent weight loss and body fat, waist circumference, and behavior change.

The study was conducted to examine the hedonic hunger, physical activity, and depression status of healthy university students and to reveal the relationship between these parameters. A total of 174 healthy university students were included in the study. Hedonic hunger responses were similar at different physical activity levels. When the relationship between individuals' hedonic hunger responses and intensity of depression was examined, it was found that there was a weak positive correlation between them. Hedonic hunger can have negative effects on university students' depression status. Taking precautions to improve nutrition and physical activity in university students can be effective in preventing this problem.

This study aimed to establish a cutoff point for detecting malnutrition for mid–upper arm circumference in the supine position. Data were collected from patients (n = 207) by medical records and anthropometric measurements. The cutoff point of the mid–upper arm circumference was obtained from the receiver operating characteristic curve and the highest Youden index. It was found that there is an agreement between mid–upper arm circumference in the standing and supine positions. The mid–upper arm circumference has a strong and significant correlation to body mass index. The mid–upper arm circumference of less than 23.4 cm can be used as an alternative measurement to body mass index for detecting malnutrition.

Hospital malnutrition, although well established, has remained underrecognized in health care settings. This study aimed at determining the prevalence and factors associated with hospital malnutrition in Lahore, Pakistan. A sample of 937 hospitalized patients was screened for malnutrition using a Subjective Global Assessment (SGA). More than half (59.4%) of the sample was found to be undernourished, of which 26.4% was severely malnourished (SGA-C). Age more than 60 years (odds ratio [OR] = 0.574, P < .05), comorbidities (OR = 1.388, P = .014), and specific disease conditions (cancer and renal diseases) (OR = 3.291; OR = 3.042, P < .05, respectively) increased the risk of undernourishment (SGA-B&C). High prevalence of disease-associated malnutrition among hospitalized patients urgently calls for preadmission screening.

Research is limited regarding the nutritional impact on xerostomia in the elderly. In a quasi-clinical trial, water intake with food, food intake, and body mass index were assessed during the 7 days before and after the intervention of providing a sorbet before lunch and dinner for 8 weeks. We observed differences in subjective and objective xerostomia evaluation, water amount needed while eating (mean difference = −26.28 ± 21.21; 95% confidence interval, −31.34 to −21.23; P = .016), and food intake (P = .033) before and after the intervention. A statistically significant change was observed among seniors with a body mass index less than 25 (mean difference = 0.42 ± 0.57; 95% CI, 0.21-0.63; P < .001), indicating that xerostomia management may improve food intake and body mass index.

This cross-sectional study assessed the relationship between the dietary diversity score (DDS) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) among 410 Iranian adults aged 20 to 60 years. Dietary intake was evaluated using a validated semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire and the DDS was calculated for each participant. The probability of having MetS (P for trend = .042) and some of its components such as abdominal adiposity (P for trend = .036), high blood pressure (P for trend = .029), and high serum triglycerides (P for trend = .038) decrease with enhancing quartile of the DDS. The increased diversity score of diets may be useful in preventing MetS and its metabolic features.

This qualitative study explored career impacts of the Advanced Practitioner Certification in Clinical Nutrition (RD-AP) from the perspective of credentialed dietitians. Twelve geographically dispersed RD-APs participated in semistructured interviews ranging from 38 to 67 minutes. Interview data were analyzed using conventional content analysis with an inductive approach. All reported intrinsic benefits of increased confidence, validation, and personal satisfaction, which drove some extrinsic career benefits, including enhanced quality of patient care. The RD-AP credential is an opportunity for career advancement for advanced-level dietitians; however, increased recognition of the credential by stakeholders is needed for the continued growth of the certification program.

The present study was conducted to assess the relationship between relative handgrip strength (RHGS) and cardiovascular risk factors in individuals with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and healthy subjects. This study was based on a cross-sectional analysis of 883 participants aged 35 to 65 years among those with CVD and healthy subjects from Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease (RaNCD) cohort study. There was a significant inverse association between body fat percentage, body fat mass, waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio with RHGS in both groups (P < .001). There was no significant association between RHGS and total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein of the 2 groups (P > .05). Increased RHGS may be associated with improved body composition in individuals with CVD and individuals with no CVD, which requires further longitudinal studies.
