Metacognition in action as a possible explanation for stock‐flow failure 元认知在行动中作为库存流动失败的可能解释

This study aims at examining the role of metacognition, which refers to one ’ s ability to control and regulate their own thinking process through various activities in assessing dynamics of stocks and fl ows. The fi rst research question focuses on the metacognitive activities used by individuals who solved such tasks correctly and who did not. The second question focuses on how successfully participants organized their thinking processes to arrive at a correct answer when prompted and permitted to retry. Forty undergraduate students were involved in the study, and concurrent think-aloud protocol was used to examine their thinking when per- forming two stock- fl ow tasks. The fi ndings revealed that participants tend to have dif fi culties in reading, planning, monitoring, and checking activities. The effectiveness of metacognitive activi- ties employed by the participants is likely to decrease from reading to checking, respectively. The study contributes to our understanding of metacognitive de fi ciencies in stock- fl ow failure and provides further research suggestions. Review on behalf of System Dynamics Society.

The impact of information visibility on ordering dynamics in a supply chain: a behavioral perspective 供应链中信息可见性对订购动态的影响:行为视角

Previous research on the Bullwhip Effect shows that information visibility—Point-Of-Sale (POS) data or supply-chain partner-inventory data—can reduce the amplification of orders in a supply chain. This study compiles and analyzes the data from two previous experiments with the beer game (Croson and Donohue, 2003, 2006) to gain insight on the specific mechanisms that decrease order amplification. By structuring the data as a panel and using a fixed-effects estimation model, we find that additional supply-chain-level information (e.g., POS and inventory data) leads subjects to react less aggressively to changes in their own inventory and to pay more attention to the supply line of orders placed. Furthermore, our analysis shows that such effects are more pronounced for upstream subjects. Our findings provide insight into the role that additional supply-chain information play on subjects' orders in the beer game. © 2021 The Authors.
