The literature on employment contains a multitude of works related to the concepts of psychological contract and organizational commitment. The level of causal relationship that both concepts have has been demonstrated, as has their importance regarding the efficiency of business organizations. The objective of this study is to examine the existing scientific literature, to study in depth the predominant approaches and to indentify which ones remain to be explored. This has been achieved by a bibliometric study. A total of 372 articles from journals catalogued in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED) and Scopus have been analyzed in detail. The application of bibliometric techniques has made it possible to analyze and present the evolution of publications in this field, by means of activity and relationship indicators. The results obtained suggest that the psychological contract and organizational commitment remain topics of interest, although no significant increase is expected. The study has verified that the literature has addressed the most important questions regarding the psychological contract and organizational commitment in business organizations; however, sensitive issues such as diversity management, impact on gender equality or aspects of organizational culture have received little attention.

Digital tools provide a growing set of opportunities for organizations, especially in the tourism sector, by optimizing processes with the aim of extracting and transforming data into information for management and efficient organizational decision and for improving the chain of value, The study carries out a bibliometric analysis of the Scopus, Web of Science and Science Direct databases during the period from 2015 to the first quarter of 2019 in order to determine value contribution and the generation of knowledge in the tourism sector with Big Data tools. The study concludes that four well-differentiated topics: consumer analysis, tourist destinations, social network analytics and Big Data tools have wide ranging and varied effects on the tourism sector, with the analytics of Social Networks and Web reservations being the most important, due to the automation and substitution of the tourism intermediation subsector, and other exceptional dimensions.

The social and economic importance of micro-entrepreneurship is undeniable according to the data offered by different economical observatories such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. However, this observatory also reveals the high rates of business failure related to this particular type of entrepreneurship. The present study considers that, like other types of entrepreneurship, micro-entrepreneurship success is linked to dynamic capabilities of adaptation. These capabilities derive from the processes that the new entrepreneurs develop before the creation of their firms. For this reason, the study considers that the entrepreneurial training process plays a fundamental role in micro-business success. The study argues for the importance not only of entrepreneurial training, but also for the methodology used, as long as it contributes to the development of the entrepreneur’s ability to re-evaluate. In fact, the entrepreneur’s ability to re-evaluate has a significant influence on the development of dynamic adaptive capacity in the firm’s entry phase. In this sense, we argue that experiential learning facilitates entrepreneurs’ development of the ability to re-evaluate when it allows students to design new experiments, validate them, measure their results and learn from the market. The study also presents “La escuela para emprender” as an example of good practice based on experiential learning principles. In “La escuela para emprender” we prepare a specific didactic proposal designed and adapted to the needs of the micro-entrepreneurs in order to help them to specify their micro-business opportunity and the best strategy to adapt their market opportunity. Finally, we present the main results obtained from the first two editions of “La escuela para Emprender”. From these results, we can deduce that the methodology used in this course not only contributes to the development of re-evaluation skills but also entrepreneurial intention. These results emphasize the importance of entrepreneurial education and training, especially when this training contributes to the development of the entrepreneur’s re-evaluation skills. In this regard, these results contribute to the literature on entrepreneurial education by analyzing its influence on the intention to start a business and on the development of transversal skills as the ability to re-evaluate.

Transferability of human capital is a key issue in the analysis of immigrants’ integration in the destination country, according to both empirical and theoretical literature. In addition to the problem of recognition of immigrants’ educational credentials and their lack of social networks, language is highlighted in the literature as a crucial factor regarding human capital transfer. This paper considers the role played by Spanish language skills in the integration of migrants into the labour market in Spain. It takes advantage of the fact that about half of the immigrant population have Spanish as their native language, and of the diversity levels of fluency in Spanish among the remaining immigrants. Using the Labour Force Survey special module on the labour market situation of immigrants (INE 2015), the research has two purposes: first, to measure the direct effect of language skills on employment outcomes; and second, to analyze the complementary vs. substitution hypotheses regarding the interaction between Spanish language skills and educational credentials as determining factors for employment. The results confirm that skill levels in Spanish have a significant role regarding access to employment. Regarding the complementary vs. substitution hypotheses, interesting gender differences appear that confirm the striking contrasts in the Spanish labour market for female and male immigrants. For men, their level of Spanish acts as a complement to their educational qualifications in helping them to obtain employment, but this is not the case for women. However, female immigrant workers seem to obtain higher employment returns on their educational qualifications than men when it comes to avoiding very low-skilled jobs.

It is well known that proficiency in languages is important for the labor outcomes of natives, and the economic literature generally shows positive effects for those able to use multiple languages in the domestic labor market. In this context, compulsory education is likely to play an important role in identifying to what extent additional languages matter for the native workforce. Indeed, institutional education systems are often the main providers of individual skills in a country, including language skills, and compulsory education is reasonably unrelated to individual characteristics affecting choices of language acquisition. However, while some studies on co-official languages and labor in multilingual countries focus on compulsory schooling, it seems that no studies have yet been made on foreign languages and compulsory schooling. As a first step for future analyses on foreign languages and labor in Europe, in this paper I try to analyze whether compulsory education affects the foreign language proficiency of European adult natives. I find that being taught foreign languages during compulsory schooling has a positive effect of between 3 and 5 percent on the probability of knowing them

This article investigates the underaddressed productive power effects of multilingualism in professional contexts. Instead of conceiving of power in terms of possession, competition or limitation, it focuses on ‘power to’ get active, seize opportunities, create possibilities, take responsibility, make decisions, and relate to others. Re-analyzing data from a case study conducted in Switzerland, it shows how employees discursively construct various forms of getting active and creating possibilities to counterbalance the challenging aspects of their multilingual work environment. As a result, it presents a typology of agency creation in multilingual organizations. Agency is conceptualized as breaking away from a given frame of action and as taking initiatives to transform it.

In the Basque Autonomous Community, the presence of the local minority language Basque has gradually increased in the workplace due to recent language policies, although the local majority language Spanish is still clearly prevalent. At the same time, in consequence of internationalization, English has also gained in importance as a lingua franca for international work-related activities.
