Influence of Working Mothers on the Cognitive Development of their Children in Nigeria 尼日利亚职业母亲对子女认知发展的影响

Traditionally, the Nigerian women have been home makers. The role of women was confined only to domestic tasks and looking after the kids and elderly people. On the other hand, men would go out to work and played the role of wage earners of the family. But in the last two decades, with the help of improved education system and social awareness, along with increasing cost of living, women have shifted themselves from home to office. Working women play a key role in development of the society and also contribute to national economy, global economy and in lowering the rate of recession as well. The purpose of this study is to analyse the influence a working mother has on the overall development of the child, which includes the aspects such as physical growth, behavioural development, educational attainment, emotional development, mental growth, economic development, cognitive development, social development, etc. The study supports that working women instill confidence, social awareness and a sense of commitment among their children with multiple monetary benefits. Working women also act as role models for the society and their children. But on the other hand, their job patterns may have long-term consequences on their children's development, as working mothers have to reduce the duration of the time to be spent with their children, moreover mothers’ exposure to work-related stress negatively affects children's cognitive and behavioural development leading to jerks in their holistic growth. In contrast, a mother who takes time off from her job to spend it as quality time with her child, her job doesn’t affect her personal life. The findings will help policy makers to formulate policies that favour working mothers in such a way that it reflects in better care and development of their children

Finding Up-to-date Academic Literature Materials for Scholarly Writings: Some Useful Tips 为学术著作寻找最新的学术文献材料:一些有用的提示

It is now a prerequisite in many academic institutions and many academic journals that most of the cited works in academic writing, especially theses and dissertations, be recent. This short article aims to give some guidelines on how a researcher can get recent and up-to-date scholarly literature materials. The tips are based on the author’s experience when he was writing his PhD thesis and thereafter. The article concluded with a recommendation that researchers should continue to explore the given tips and other means through modern technological tools to be up-to-date in their chosen fields.

Examining the challenges of Non-Physics majors teaching Physics curriculum contents in secondary schools in Rivers State, Nigeria 考察尼日利亚河流州中学非物理专业学生教授物理课程内容的挑战

The study was conducted to examine the challenges of Non-Physics majors teaching Physics curriculum contents in secondary schools in Rivers State, Nigeria. Mixed method research design was adopted for the study. The participants consisted of 52 Non-Physics major Physics teachers obtained using a purposive sampling method. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected using Interview Template for Non-Physics Major Teachers Teaching Physics and Non-Physics Major Teachers Teaching Physics Questionnaire (NPMTTPQ) [r = 0.79]. Data was analyzed using frequency count, percentage and mean. The findings of the study revealed that 21.5% of non- Physics major teachers teaching Physics are very knowledgeable about the Physics curriculum content while 27.9% had knowledge of the Physics curriculum content and 50.6% had little knowledge of the Physics curriculum content. It was also revealed that there was inadequate learning materials and practical apparatus and technology facilities for the teaching of the Physics curriculum content among others. The study recommended that in-service refresher courses and development trainings, adequate learning materials and practical apparatus and technology facilities as well as effective administrative support towards the teaching of the Physics curriculum content by non-Physics major teachers teaching Physics.

Budget Planning and Defense Practices adopted by Principals of Public Secondary Schools for Effective Financial Management in Delta State, Nigeria 尼日利亚三角洲州公立中学校长为有效财务管理所采用的预算规划和辩护做法

The study investigated the budget planning and defense practices adopted by principals of public secondary schools for effective financial management in Delta State, Nigeria. The study answered two research questions, and further tested two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 485 principals of public secondary schools in Delta State. Instrument titled, ‘budget planning and defense practices adopted by principals of public secondary schools for effective financial management Scale (BPDPPPSSEFMS)’ was used for the data collection. The data obtained were subjected to test of internal consistency using Cronbach Alpha, and the reliability indices for the clusters B1 and B2 were 0.86 and 0.82, respectively, and considered suitable for the study. The researchers together with the help of six research assistants collected relevant data. Mean was used for answering the research questions, while z-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses. The study found among other things that in planning the budget, principals are guided by such practices as: inclusion of unexpected expenditure in budget planning; sources of revenue; objectives and goals the budget is to achieve, etc. It was concluded that principals have common budgeting practices they adopt in pursuit of effective financial management in public secondary schools in Delta State. Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education should regularly organized school budgeting related workshop and seminars for principals, in order to keep them abreast with latest practices and workable strategies for planning a school budget.

Involvement in entrepreneurial activities is a major factor in curbing unemployment among the youths in Nigeria, yet not so many youths are involved in business for so many reasons ranging from lack of fund, inconsistency in government policy, economic background of the youth among others. This study examines the effect of students’ industrial work experience scheme on entrepreneurial interest of NCE students at Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo. The specific objectives of the study were to assess the various skills acquired by students during industrial training, identify the level of exposure of students to the industrial training programme

This paper “John Dewey’s pragmatic education: A veritable tool for nation building in Nigeria” seeks to examine John Dewey’s Educational ideas – learners’ active role and experimental based learning approach to improve productivity and a sustainable nation building. The paper employs the philosophical methods of critical analysis. The findings of this study would be relevant to education policy makers by encouraging them to consider making policies that will favour inclusion of pragmatic approach in Nigerian education system. It is recommended among others that if a pragmatic approach is encouraged in Nigeria education system, there would be quality maximum and versatile productivity as effective tools for nation building

Effect of Reality Therapy on Attitudes of Drug Addicts at the Specialist Hospital Gombe, Nigeria 现实治疗对尼日利亚贡贝专科医院吸毒成瘾者态度的影响

The research investigated the effects of reality therapy on the attitudes of drug addicts at the Specialist Hospital Gombe, Nigeria. The specific aim was to determine the effect of the Reality Therapy intervention on the attitudes of drug addicts of Specialist Hospital Gombe. To achieve the three objectives formulated for the study, three hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance. True experimental pre-test post-test control group design was adopted. The population of this study consisted of all drug addicts at the Specialist Hospital Gombe during the period of conducting the research. The hospital had a total population of 63 drug addicts who received in and outpatient treatment, consisting of 52 males and 11 females. The sample of this study consisted of 20 clients who scored between 11-15 points on the Drug Abuse Screening Test. The sample comprised 17 males and three females aged between 18-36 years old and above. The content validity of the three instruments used in the study were established by three different specialists in the Faculty of Education, University of Jos, Cronbach's alpha method was used in estimating the reliabilities of the two instruments. The reliability coefficients for DAST- 20 and DAS were 0.87, and 0.85 respectively. The major findings of the study indicated that; the post-test attitudes mean scores of the drug addicts in the experimental group were greater than the pre-test attitudes toward recovery from addiction mean scores of the drug addicts in the control group. Therefore, there was an improvement in the attitudes of drug addicts toward recovery from addiction because of the Reality Therapy intervention given.

The specific aim was to determine the effect of the Reality Therapy intervention on the attitudes of drug addicts of Specialist Hospital Gombe. To achieve the three objectives formulated for the study, three hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance. True experimental pre-test post-test control group design was adopted. The population of this study consisted of all drug addicts at the Specialist Hospital Gombe during the period of conducting the research. The hospital had a total population of 63 drug addicts who received in and outpatient treatment, consisting of 52 males and 11 females. The sample of this study consisted of 20 clients who scored between 11-15 points on the Drug Abuse Screening Test. The sample comprised 17 males and three females aged between 18-36 years old and above. The content validity of the three instruments used in the study were established by three different specialists in the Faculty of Education, University of Jos, Cronbach's alpha method was used in estimating the reliabilities of the two instruments. The reliability coefficients for DAST- 20 and DAS were 0.87, and 0.85 respectively. The major findings of the study indicated that; the post-test attitudes mean scores of the drug addicts in the experimental group were greater than the pre-test attitudes toward recovery from addiction mean scores of the drug addicts in the control group. This study investigated the influence of class size on the students’ performance in mensuration in Ogbomoso Education Zone, Oyo State, Nigeria. The design of the study was ex-post-facto design. The target population in the geographical scope of this study is thirty- one thousand seven hundred and six (31,706) SS II students out of which a sample of two hundred and seventy four (274) students were selected using purposive sampling technique that form sample size for the study. Two research questions were asked to guide the study while two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Only one research instrument; Mathematics Performance Test on Mensuration (MPTM) was developed, validated by two experts in Mathematics Education and used to collect data for the study. The instrument yielded reliability coefficient of 0.85 using test retest method to ensure internal consistency of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation and t-test. Findings from the study revealed that there was a significant difference in the mean performance scores of students taught in large class size and in small class size. There is no significant difference in the mean performance scores of SS II students taught Mensuration in the rural and urban areas based on class size. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that school principals and other stakeholders who are in charge of admission of students need to take into cognizance the resources available in the schools and the number of students to be given admission

Instructional Supervision and Improved Teaching Performance for Public Primary Schools in Somalia 索马里公立小学的教学监督与教学绩效改善

This paper discussed instructional supervision as a vital administrative tool for improving teachers’ job performance in Somalia public primary schools. Instructional supervision is a series of actions intended to enhance the process of teaching and learning. The performance of teachers as highlighted in the paper is measured in terms of syllabus completion, lesson planning, and preparations, assessment and evaluation, and regular attendance. Supervision practices that can improve teaching performance include checking attendance in schools, inspecting the adequate interpretation of the curriculum and appropriate use of teaching methods, and evaluating the results of instructional activities in Somalia. The paper also noted some major challenges faced in supervision and identified that there are inadequate supervisory personnel, lack of proper training, lack of motivation, and poor leadership. The paper recommended the provision of in-service training programs to the supervisors in duties to enhance their capacity of practicing modern supervision. This can provide the supervisory skills needed and Proper staffing of the supervisory personnel by the educational administrators.

There is a wide variety of reality shows in Africa. In this era of globalization, modern media had brought about social change and Africa's indigenous moral values and socio-cultural norms were in deep crisis. Reality shows in Africa have deepened this crisis. The moral values of decency, chastity, celibacy, and communion were sacrificed on the altar of promiscuity, romance, prostitution, and individualism. It follows from this that young Africans who form the media base of reality shows have been exposed to non-African values. Building on this publication, this study seeks to investigate the influence of Big Brother Nigeria on Nigerian national values. The study is an attempt to show how modern media has brought about social change among Nigerian youth. The study is a qualitative research that relies mainly on secondary sources for data collection and analysis. The article adopted cultivation theory to describe how BB Naija's immoral scenes negatively affected the fan community. The document concluded that the modernization of African media has not only eroded fundamental African values, but has also negatively affected national development
